Description

Threaded rod and assembly for producing ready-to-use threaded end pieces
Background of the invention
The invention relates to an assembly for producing a ready-to use threaded end piece by an end user, comprising a threaded rod and a tool, in which the threaded rod is provided with external screw thread, a threaded rod which is clearly suitable for and intended for such an assembly, as well as a tool which is clearly suitable for and intended for such an assembly.
In practice, threaded ends are produced by taking pieces from a threaded rod in various known manners or by separating them off by, for example, grinding, cutting by means of a pair of cutting nippers, sawing or another similar technique.
One of the problems thereof is that this usually damages the screw thread, in particular at the separating plane. As a result thereof, it is barely possible to fit a part, such as a nut, on the threaded end.
Summary of the invention
It is an object of the invention to provide an assembly by means of which a user can produce a ready-to-use threaded end in a simple manner.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a tool by means of which an end user can produce a ready-to-use threaded end in a simple manner.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a threaded rod by means of which an end user can produce a ready-to-use threaded end in a simple manner.
To this end, the invention provides an assembly according to claim 1. As a result of the break-off areas, it is possible to produce ready-to-use threaded ends by means of the tool. It is even possible to break the threaded rod in a breaking area by means of nothing more than manual force, although this is not advisable due to the possible risks of injury.
Further embodiments of the invention are described in the dependent claims in the attached description of the figures relating to an embodiment.
The invention furthermore relates to an assembly for producing a ready-to-use threaded end piece by an end user, comprising a threaded rod and a tool, in which the threaded rod is provided with external screw thread and with break-off areas at a regular distance apart, which distances determine a basic threaded end length, and in which the tool comprises an input or a passage through which a part of the threaded rod can be inserted or fed through up to a selected break-off area, and comprises a break-off facility for exerting bending forces on the threaded rod on either side of the selected break-off area for breaking off a threaded end from the threaded rod, which threaded end has a desired number of basic threaded end lengths, preferably on the one hand bending forces acting between the selected break-off area and the subsequent break-off areas and at least one counterforce acting on the selected break-off area.
In addition, the invention relates to a tool therefor.
It will be clear that the various aspects mentioned in this patent application can be combined and each individually qualify for a divisional patent application. Thus, the threaded rod and the tool may be the subject of a separate patent right.
Short description of the figures
hi the attached figures, various embodiments of an assembly comprising a threaded rod and a tool according to the invention are illustrated, in which: fig. 1 shows an assembly comprising a threaded rod and tool according to the invention; fig. 2a shows a part of a threaded rod according to the invention, and fig. 2b shows a detail from fig. 2a.
Description of an embodiment
Fig. 1 shows an assembly comprising a threaded rod 1 and tool 2 according to the invention, in which the threaded rod 1 is provided with break-off areas 4, which are situated a distance apart and in which the distance apart determines the length of the basic threaded end pieces 3, which form ready-to-use threaded ends after being broken off the threaded rod. Of course, it is also possible to leave several threaded ends together and, for example, to break off a piece of the threaded rod at, for example, the fourth break-off surface, so that a threaded end is obtained which has a length of four base length units. A threaded end is then obtained which has a length of four base length units. Generally, threaded ends are thus produced which are an integral multiple of the length of a base piece 3. Usually, a base piece will have a length of approximately 20-30 mm, preferably of approximately 25 mm.
In order for a nut to be able to pass from one base piece to another base piece, the length of the break-off area will be approximately 3-5 mm. Preferably, this length is approximately around 4 mm.
The tool 2 is provided with a slot 7, into which the threaded end can be inserted in a fitting manner, and is provided with a handle 8, which extends substantially radially with respect to the slot 7.
The operation is as follows. A user requires a certain length of threaded end. The user then counts the number of base units on the threaded rod which have to be removed from the threaded rod. The user will then insert the threaded rod into the slot 7 of the tool 2 with the end of the tool at the desired break-off surface. Upon moving the handle 8 towards the longitudinal axis of the threaded rod, the threaded rod will break at the breaking element, which is situated closest to the end of the slot 7 of the tool 2. In this case, the end user holds the threaded rod, for example in his hand, with the threaded rod protruding from his hand at the break-off area, where the breakage or fracture is to take place, and will place the tool on the threaded rod above his hand. If desired, it is possible to provide the threaded rod with two identical tools 2, in which case, for example, the one handle of the tool extends in the one direction and the other handle of the second tool extends in the other direction. Both tools will then be arranged on the threaded rod on either side of the break-off or fracture area, where the break has to be effected. It is also possible to arrange two tool parts or two tools on either side of the break-off area and to move the handles towards one another as a result of which a bending force is exerted on the threaded rod on either side of the break-off area.
Fig. 2a shows a threaded rod according to the invention in more detail. The threaded rod comprises basic threaded end pieces, the length of which is denoted by L. An end user or user of a threaded end piece can select the length of the final threaded end he requires by selecting a number of these basic threaded end pieces. Break-off areas 4 are provided on the threaded end 1, at the regular distance apart denoted by the abovementioned L. Along these break-off areas 4, the screw thread has been removed, at least up to the valley, indicated by 10, of the screw thread. Furthermore, the break- off area 4 is divided in two identical parts by weakening 6, in this case a continuous V- shaped groove 6. It is also possible to opt for a different shape, provided that it results in a clean break without causing damage to the screw thread. The weakening in this case has to be such that a break can be achieved with a minimum expenditure of effort, even by hand, but the impact on the (tensile) strength of the threaded rod is reduced to a minimum. The groove may also have a round bottom, be shaped like an hour glass, or have a straight bottom. Preferably, the weakening is continuous, runs around the rod, preferably a continuous groove.
The break-off section 4 is illustrated in more detail in fig. 2b. In this figure, the peaks 9 and valleys 10 of the screw thread are clearly indicated. It can also clearly be seen in the inset that the screw thread has been removed in the break-off area 4, at least up to the valley 10 of the screw thread. As a result thereof, a nut or another component which is to run along the screw thread is able to pass the break-off area.
The weakening results in two areas 5 without screw thread, which are separated by the (in this case) continuous (in this case) V-shaped breaking groove 6 as weakening. In order to make it possible to obtain a threaded end piece which is as close as possible to the length desired by the end user, it is preferable if a set of threaded rods is provided, in which the length L between the break-off surfaces of the various threaded rods varies. Thus, a threaded rod could for example be provided, in which the distance between the break-off surfaces is 2 cm, a threaded rod in which the distance between the break-off areas is 3 cm, and a threaded rod in which this distance between the break-off areas is S cm. By suitably selecting the various distances of the threaded ends to one another, it is possible to offer a set of threaded rods by means of which the end user can achieve virtually any threaded end length he desires.
The threaded rod is preferably made of metal, such as iron or steel. However, it is also possible to make the threaded rod from a plastic, such as for example nylon.
It will be clear that the above description has been incorporated in order to illustrate the operation of preferred embodiments of the invention, and not to limit the scope of the invention. Based on the above explanation, a person skilled in the art will be able to think of many variations which are within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
