Description
Hinge for a roof window with a pivot sash and method of mounting a hinge in a roof window, in particular a window made of multi-cell plastic profiles
The present invention concerns a hinge for a roof window with a sash pivoting around an axis located between the top and the bottom member of a window and a method of mounting a hinge in a roof window, in particular a window made of multi-cell plastic profiles.
A hinge for a roof pivot window is known from applications WO/0131155 and WO/2006002633, comprising a hinge part secured to a window frame and a hinge part secured to a sash of a window. Each hinge part has a flat base plate with screw holes and a fastener, for securing external cover members to side members of a window near the rotation axis of a sash, as well as appropriately located spigot pins on the plate surface on one side. On the other side, on the surface of the base plates there are members enabling pivoting of the plates relative to each other, moreover there is an arched guide with a guide member and a frictional braking member on the base plate secured to a window frame and a pivoting hook member with an arch bent arm mating the arched guide and a guide pin and a bumper limiting the hook member pivoting range are located on the plate secured to a sash of a window.
The arched guide may comprise a massive integral member of the base plate (WO/0131155) or it may be a multi-component arched guide, with a guide member and a frictional braking spring, secured to the base plate with nine rivets (WO/2006002633).
Securing a plurality of guide components to the base plate with a plurality of rivets is time and labour consuming and inconvenient for an assembler.
A method of securing a hinge to a pivot roof window is known, consisting in inserting spigot pins, which are located in the mounting surface of the base plate, into base holes in the side surfaces of the window side members to which the surface of the base plates is parallel, and subsequently fastening the base plate to the side surface of the side member of a window with screws inserted into the holes in the base plate.
Such a method of securing pivot hinges is convenient and efficient in windows made of solid profile members, in which a fastening screw and a spigot pin make contact with the material of which the window members are made on its entire length and its entire side surface.
In windows made of multi-cell profiles, a fastening means in the form of a spigot pin and screws would make contact with a window member on a much less contact area, which would depend on the profile external wall thickness, as the cells are hollow inside. A hinge secured in such a way, bearing considerable loads during use of a window, would be susceptible to wobbling or tearing off the window members.
An object of the present invention is to provide a hinge with means for improving securing a multi-component guide to a base plate and to provide hinge base plates with additional fastening members, which enable securing of the plates to the other surface of the side member of a window, preferably perpendicular to the first surface, moreover the additional fastening members are parallel to the surface they are fastened to, as well as to change the method of securing a hinge to the side members of a roof window.
A hinge for a roof window with a pivot sash, according to the present invention, comprises two hinge parts, adapted for securing to two walls of the side members of a roof window, also if a window is made of multi-cell plastic components.
Each hinge part has a base plate, and on one side each base plate has fastening means for enabling to secure it to two surfaces of the side member of a window, where one is parallel to the base plate surface and the other one is preferably perpendicular to the base plate. Fastening means constitute screw holes and a spigot pin and at least one longitudinal fastening protrusion, parallel to the surface it is secured to. A fastening protrusion can be of any shape and can optionally have a hole for a fastening means. The base plate secured to a sash of a window, on the reverse side has a pivoting hook member with an arch bent arm and a guide pin and a bumper, which limits the pivoting range of the hook member. The base plate secured to the window frame, on the reverse side has properly located spacer pins with a tip for riveting, constituting integral parts of the plate.
The method of securing a hinge in the roof window, in particular made of multi- cell plastic profiles, according to the present invention, consists in securing the hinge base plates to two surfaces of the window frame and two surfaces of the sash of a window, which significantly influences improvement of the securing quality.
The base plate adjoins the side wall of the side member of a window, after inserting the spigot pin into the base hole in this wall, where the longitudinal fastening protrusion adjoins either the external surface of the adjacent wall, preferably perpendicular to the side wall, or the internal surface of this wall, after inserting the protrusion into the dimensional hole made in the side wall of the side member of a window.
The base plate is fastened to the side surface of the side member of a window with screws inserted into the holes in the plate surface and then the fastening protrusion of the base plate and the wall of the side member a window, which adjoins the protrusion, are fastened together with a proper fastening means, e.g. a pin or a screw.
A hinge for roof windows with a pivot sash, according to the present invention, is presented in embodiment examples on a drawing where fig. 1, fig. 2 and fig. 3 show a hinge part secured to a window frame, fig. 4 and fig. 5 show a hinge part secured to a sash of a window in two-sided view, in the first embodiment example, fig. 6 and fig. 7 show a hinge part secured to a sash of a window in two- sided view, in the second embodiment example.
