Abstract

The present invention relates to a spring locking and guiding mechanism for V-brake bicycle braking systems. It consists primarily of a case (1) made of a plastic polymer, with a central opening (2), that fits into a metal sleeve (3) previously riveted in the brake lever (4). The locking between them is made by a projection (5) in the central opening (2) of the case that fits in the sleeve recess (6). This new locking type (7) allows the case to freely rotate over the sleeve, as if it was a bearing. This locking also allows to keep it from contacting with the lever (4), preventing rubbing and gripping that cause the misworking many of the present braking systems.

Description

Description
"Case for locking and guiding the spring for V-brake bicycle braking systems"
The present invention relates to a spring locking and guiding mechanism for V-brake bicycle braking systems.
The systems of the same type known in the art are equipped with a case system in which the spring is fitted into the case and gets locked between the case and the brake lever, producing in many situations a spring gripping and a misworking of the brake set. This friction also originates further difficulties related with the correct adjustment between the left and the right brake levers .
To prevent this problem it is normal to fit a washer to create a space between the case and the brake lever to prevent the friction, but this does not prevent mechanical clearances, rubbing and spring overbalances .
Another problem concerns with the previous art systems, in which the spring is not guided and in this way it can frequently disengage out from the brake lever, causing a breakdown in the brake work and the resulting safety problems.
With this new system, the spring is fitted into the case, rotating simultaneously with the box on the sleeve without any locking or misworking, providing a total set stability and avoiding the frequent adjustments and said safety problems.
The appended drawings, which are exemplificative and non- limitative, illustrate:
FIG. 1 - a perspective view of the fitting surface in the bicycle pivot
FIG. 2 - a perspective view of the fitting surface in the brake lever sleeve
FIG. 3 - a sectional view from the top of the case-spring-brake system, fully mounted FIG. 4 - a lateral sectional view of the case-spring-brake system, fully mounted
FIG. 5 - a lateral sectional view of the case-spring set, control spindle and fitting spindle
FIG. 6 - a lateral sectional view of the brake lever and sleeve set with recess.
PARTS AND FUNCTIONING
The mechanism consists primarily of a case (1) made of a plastic polymer, with a central opening (2) , that fits into a metal sleeve (3) previously riveted in the brake lever (4) . The locking between them is made by a projection (5) in the central opening
(2) of the case that fits in the sleeve recess (6) .
This new locking type (7) allows the case to freely rotate over the sleeve, as if it was a bearing. This locking also allows to keep it from contacting with the lever (4), preventing rubbing and gripping that cause the misworking of many of the present braking systems .
The case is locked in the metal sleeve with the spring (8), the spindle that controls the spring (9) pressure and the spindle that fits in the pivot (10) of the bicycle already mounted.
The spring is supported and guided in two points (11) (12) of the spring case which are essential for the spring to work properly.
The present device has another new feature that consists of a lateral slot (11) in the spring case (1) that locks the spring and guides it, preventing its lateral oscillation. The spring is fitted in the lateral slot (11) of the spring case (1) . With this system the spring doesn't contacts, directly or indirectly, with the lateral part of the lever around the sleeve or other moving parts, such as washers that could be present in both components.
. In this way, there is no possibility of direct or indirect rubbing with the aluminum lever or any other metallic part (washer) that could be present between both components and create locking situations in the system, practically operating as a bearing. LEGEND:

Claims

Claims
1. Mechanism of locking case for V-brake bicycle braking systems, characterized in that it consists essentially of one case (1) with a central opening (2), a lateral slot (11) communicating with a base (12) and an opening (13) to insert the control spindle (9) •
2. Mechanism according to claim 1, characterized in that the case
(1) fits into the brake metal sleeve (3) through the central opening (2) and where is fixed by an annular projection (5) subsequently accommodated in a recess (6) opened in the sleeve (3) .
3. Mechanism according to the claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the slot (11) adjacent to a case surface (1) has a gauge corresponding to the spring (8) diameter so that the spring fits completely inside it, wherein the slot also communicates with the support base (12) adjacent to the other case surface ( 1 ) .
4. Mechanism according to claims 1, 2, and 3, characterized in that the spring (8) is locked and guided essentially by the cooperation of both supporting areas, the slot (11) where a spring portion fits, and the base (12) that communicates with said slot, where one of the spring ends stands and in which the configuration of the slot (11) access to the base (12) forces the spring end to be twisted, reinforcing the locking.
5. Mechanism according to claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the spring (8) pressure is controlled by the control spindle (9) .
