Description

Description
A DEVICE OPERATING ACCORDING TO VOCABULARY
LEARNING METHOD
[I] Technical Field
[2] The present invention relates to a method for vocabulary learning for making new words easier to remember in a foreign language and a device therefor.
[3] Prior Art
[4] In the state of the art visual, auditory and written materials are used in foreign language learning.
[5] WO2004075143 discloses a method for teaching words by retrieving them onto the computer screen one after another or suddenly in different repetitions and in an order from the easiest to the most difficult one.
[6] US6632094 describes a computer-based foreign language teaching system, in which the text to be read is displayed on the computer screen and read through the loudspeakers. The words that are read are underlined and pictures pertaining to some of the words are displayed on the screen.
[7] US4968257 describes a language teaching device which owns a memory where the words and terms of various topics are stored. A topic is selected with the help of a cursor on the screen and thus the word is displayed and vocalized.
[8] However the abovementioned embodiments do not ensure the vocabulary will be easily remembered. Therefore vocabulary learning in a foreign language is not adequately efficient.
[9] Brief Descriptionof the Invention
[10] The aim of the present invention is to obtain a method for vocabulary learning for making learning new words easier to remember.
[I I] Another aim of the present invention is to obtain a method for vocabulary learning, providing an effective learning by sending warnings to the various parts of the brain at the same time or one after another.
[12] And still another aim of the invention is to provide a device operating according to said method.
[13] Detailed Descriptionof the Invention
[14] The method for vocabulary learning according to the aim of the invention and the device operating according to said method are shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
[15] Figure 1 is the schematic view of the method together with the device.
[16] The parts in the figure are given reference numerals as follows:
[17] 1. Device
[18] 2. Screen
[19] 3. Picture [20] 4. 40,400,4000- Text box
[21] 5. Sound unit
[22] 6. Keypad
[23] The device (1) according to the method of the invention mainly comprises a screen
(2) on which writings and pictures are displayed, a sound unit (5) with at least two loudspeakers on both the right and left sides of the device, a control unit (not shown) enabling the functions of the device and housing the memory and a keypad (6) for turning the device (1) on/off, entering a word in a text box on the screen (2) and shifting between the pages on the screen (2), and the screen (2) and the sound unit (5) thereof are operated on the basis of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic-Programming)("eye accessing cue").
[24] In brief, "NLP" depends on the basis of learning how to communicate using methods for talking to ourselves and/or others and observing the gestures."
[25] As for reference, in the article number 14 of Robert Dilts published at www.nlpu.com what is stated is that it is observed right-handed people tend to shift their heads and eyes to the right during "left hemisphere" (logical and verbally oriented) tasks, and to move their heads and eyes to the left during "right hemisphere" (artistic and spatially oriented) tasks. That is, people tend to look in the opposite direction of the part of the brain they were using to complete a cognitive task.
[26] In the mentioned article cognitive activity related with the eye movements is also described as follows: According to NLP, automatic, unconscious eye movements, or "eye accessing cues," often accompany particular thought processes, and indicate the access and use of particular representational systems.
[27] Eyes Up and Left: Visualization of existing imagery.
[28] Eyes Up and Right: Constructing imagery and visual fantasy.
[29] Eyes Lateral Left: Auditory processing - i.e., remembered sounds, words.
[30] Eyes Lateral Right: Auditory processing - i.e., constructing new sounds and words.
[31] Eyes Down and Left: Internal dialogue, or inner self-talk.
[32] Eyes Down and Right: Feelings, both tactile and visceral.
[33] An embodiment of the device (1) according to the present invention is described below. The term "left" means the left of the screen (2) according to the user, and the term "right" means the right of the screen (2) according to the user. Thus,
[34] - First the picture (3) of the word in the foreign language is displayed on the upper right-hand side of the screen (2). The picture (3) is such an image that the user knows and can remember later. And the picture (3) slides towards upper left-hand corner, therefore it is reconstructed in the brain.
[35] - The word in the mother tongue is displayed in the text box (40) on the lateral right side and the example sentence in the mother tongue is in the text box (4000) on the down right side. The word known by the user beforehand is displayed on the lateral right side and the new word in the foreign language is to be reconstructed through re- petitions in the example sentence in the text box (4000) on the down right side.
[36] - The translation of the word is displayed in the text box (4) on the lateral left side and example sentence in target language is in the text box (400) on the down left side. The source word in the text box (40) on the lateral right side is constructed in the target language in the brain when one looks at the lateral left side.
[37] - The sound unit (5) in said device (1) gives two-channelsound. Thus each of the two loudspeakers on the right and left gives different sounds. While the user looks and reads the translated word on the left of the screen (2) the word is vocalized through the left loudspeaker and the word in the mother tongue through the right loudspeaker. When one looks at the right side the sound of the word in the mother tongue is envisaged and at the lateral right the sound of the new word is constructed in the brain.
[38] When the process is repeated at a certain number the mind matches the word, image, sound and writing and recalls the word with a rate of more than 90%.
[39] The location of the picture (3) of the word, the location of the source word and the target word on the screen (2) and also the directions of the sounds are set for the righ t- handed people. The system operates in the opposite for the left-handed people.
[40] Within the framework of the main principles herein it is possible to develop various embodiments of the inventive vocabulary learning method and device (1) therefor. The inventive vocabulary learning method and the device (1) operating according to said method cannot be limited to the examples described herein for a better understanding of the invention.
