Abstract

The method involves delivering a fibrous suspension (S) using material pumps (9, 10) by pressure increased for a process step. A part of the fibrous suspension subjected to increased pressure is derived as branch currents (19, 20) and is reduced to another pressure that is suitable for another process step. The latter pressure is reduced by turbines (5, 6), which uses mechanical power output that occurs during the pressure reduction. The mechanical power output is converted into electric current and is used for mechanical operation of rotors of the pumps.

Description

The invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such processes serve to guide the pulp suspension required for paper production through a closed system, in particular through pipelines and apparatus. It may also be necessary to reduce the pressure at certain points of the system used. Usually throttling acting control elements are used to adjust pressures and the flow rate to meet the requirements of the system accordingly. Such methods are conceivable in the stock preparation of a paper mill and in particular in the so-called constant part, ie the part of the plant, which is connected directly upstream of the headbox. It is hitherto accepted that the pressure energy at the throttle point is converted into mostly useless heat. In addition, problems can occur if pressure pulsations arise in the pulp suspension. These can, if they reach the headbox, interfere with their operation and thus permanently impair the quality of the product (paper or cardboard) produced. One cause is in the actuators that are required to change the flow rate of the pulp suspension or their pressure. Such actuators are usually adjustable slides or valves.

The invention is based on the object, a method of o.g. To create a way to avoid the mentioned disadvantages.

This object is achieved by the features described in claim 1.

Suitable turbines are used almost exclusively to generate electric current from flowing pressurized water by means of a connected generator. When applying the invention, they are driven in a paper mill with a pulp suspension, namely where, for process engineering reasons, a reduction in the pressure of the pulp offered or at least harmless.
The invention and its advantages will be explained with reference to a drawing, which shows an example of an advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention.

According to this figure, a pulp suspension S is produced in the usual way by mixing a thick stock suspension 4 with a diluting liquid and thereafter has substantially the desired consistency for the operation of the headbox 1 of the paper or board machine 2 at this point. It is known that headbox consistencies range between 0.5 and 2%, usually around 1%. The dilution liquid which is supplied at a mixing point 3 originates in the example shown here predominantly from the first white water 15, that is, the water accumulated in the forming area of the paper or board machine 2. It is often referred to as white water I (SWI) in contrast to the later occurring on the paper machine white water, which contains much less fines.

It is known that such white water is inter alia mixed with a considerable proportion of air and possibly other gases. The white water is collected below the paper machine sieve and discharged laterally. In the open channels used for this purpose, a large part of the air contained can already escape. Nevertheless, it is often useful to take other measures known per se and not shown here for venting. After mixing thick matter suspension 4 and dilution liquid, the suspension is passed through a fuel pump 9 here in a closed system (ie without open containers or laid paper) to the headbox 1. In this case, the remainder of remaining impurities is eliminated by a cleaner system 13 and a sorting system 11 in the usual way. In order not to let the pressure in the cleaner system 13 become too high, a further fuel pump 10 can be installed between accept line 18 of the cleaner system 13 and inlet to the sorting system 11 for pressure increase. Of course, the effort that must be done for these hydrocyclones and sorters will depend on the raw materials as well as the quality requirements of the paper produced. If, for example, the Dickstoffsuspension 4 was formed from waste paper, sand and small plastic parts may be present. The fuel pump 10 may be designed so that gas is sucked off in its central inlet region.

Especially with modern headboxes, a strong overpressure is required for their operation, which can well be up to 10 bar or even higher. This requirement results from the fact that the suspension is to be brought to a relatively high speed through the nozzle 17 at the exit from the headbox 1 and from the fact that turbulence-increasing internals in and at the headbox can produce a significant pressure loss. For various reasons, it has been found that the operation of a headbox and the associated paper or board machine requires the withdrawal of a subset 19 from the headbox. In operation, this subset may well correspond to about 10% of the headbox 1 supplied amount of suspension. This subset 19 is practically under the same pressure as in the supply line 16 to the headbox 1. When using the method according to the invention, this subset 19 is passed into a turbine 5, in which the pressure is reduced. This mechanical power is applied, which is connected in the example shown here via a clutch or a gearbox 8 with the fuel pump 10. In order to coordinate the interaction of pump and turbine, for example with different partial flow rates, the turbine can be provided with adjustable guide vanes.

An easy to implement possibility is also the conversion into electricity by means of a generator.

The plant example shows yet another possibility for the application of the inventive concept, namely, where at the pressure sorter 12, a partial stream 20 is led out as a reject. As is known, the reject flow of a pressure sorter is formed by a partial flow which has not passed through the sieve. At the point where the pressure sorter 12 is installed in this system, this means that the pressure of this partial flow 20 is also very high, possibly even higher than in the headbox 1 can be. If this partial flow 20 (ie the reject) is to be guided into a secondary stage, ie into a further pressure sorter 18, a turbine 6 can again recover the mechanical power resulting from the pressure reduction. In the example shown, the turbine 6 is connected to a generator 7 for generating electricity. Since in most cases only a small amount of impurities is produced in the pressure sorter unit 11 used in the constant part, it is also possible for a single stage to be sufficient for sorting. Then the reject flow would be diverted without further sorting, eg into the wastewater recovery of the paper mill.
