Description

The invention relates to a plug connection, comprising at least one connector having a plug and a coupler which can be brought into connection therewith, which has at least one contact carrier with a protective collar, according to the features of the preamble of claim 1.

Plug connections which have a plug and a coupler (also called a coupling, socket or socket) are known in principle. Plugs and couplers are mated to operatively connect the contact partners located in the plug and coupler and to make an electrical connection. In particular, in the application of such connectors in automotive technology, it is not enough to plug together connectors and couplers only. Due to the stresses of the connectors during operation in the vehicle and during assembly, it is necessary to produce a permanent, but possibly releasable connection between the plug and coupler and at the same time during assembly, ie the mating plug and coupler, ensure that plug and couplers are also in their desired desired position (complete mating) to each other. For this purpose, it has already become known that the coupler from a contact carrier for receiving the contact partners, which are arranged at the end of a cable is formed, with a protective collar (also called housing) is provided, after which the fully assembled and assembled coupler with the Plug is brought together, these having corresponding locking means which after mating the plug and the coupler effectively and permanently connect with each other. Although this structure basically meets the requirements, but has disadvantages during installation. As a rule, the assembly of the coupler is carried out in a different operation than the installation of the coupler with the plug. Therefore, it must be ensured that the formulator who makes the coupler, provides with the contact partners and the cable can be reliably manufactured in this operation, whereas the mounting of the coupler with the plug in another operation (usually the vehicle manufacturer) as reliable should be done.

Such a connector is from the document US Pat. No. 6,579,118 known. The invention is therefore based on the object to provide a connector consisting of a plug and a coupler that can be brought into operative connection, which meets the requirements described above. In particular, this connector should be easy to assemble and easy to assemble after assembly, fast and reliable.

This object is solved by the features of claim 1.

According to the invention it is provided that the protective collar and the contact carrier of the coupler and a plug socket of the plug in operative connection with each other engageable latching means, which cause first the protective collar is brought to the contact carrier in a Vorverraststellung, after which the contact carrier is mated with the socket and after complete insertion of the protective collar is displaced in the direction of the socket and locked there in an end position. This structure has the advantage that in the manufacturer and confectioner of the connector of the contact carrier, having contact chambers for contact partners, manufactured and equipped with the contact partners. Subsequently, the plugging (in particular pushing) of the protective collar (housing) takes place on the contact carrier, wherein this comes into abutment in a Vorverraststellung on the contact carrier. Alternatively, the protective collar is fitted in the pre-locking position on the contact carrier and only then are the contact partners ("contact parts") populated by another company (the so-called confectioner). The latching means effecting this pre-latching position are designed in such a way that the protective collar remains on the contact carrier in a pre-latching position, but only then into its latching position Endverraststellung can be moved when the contact carrier has been completely mated with the socket of the plug. As a result, there is the advantage that the coupler can be manufactured and assembled with its contact carrier and protective collar in another operation, and further assembly in another mode is possible. In addition, the advantage is given that the protective collar is arranged captive on the contact carrier. Furthermore, there is the advantage that the plug can be made independently of the coupler and also assembled. After this assembly then plug and coupler in another operation, especially in a vehicle manufacturer, are mounted and plugged together, wherein the locking means according to the invention further have the advantage that they are designed so that the protective collar only from its Vorverraststellung in a Endverraststellung the plug can be brought if the contact carrier has been completely mated with the plug. In addition, further latching means are present, which cause the protective collar is latchingly fixed to the plug, after the protective collar has been brought into its Endverraststellung. This is, as already said, possible only when the contact carrier and plug have been put together in their desired position. This is important, therefore, so that the contacting of the contact partners in the plug and in the coupler can be effective.

Another advantage of the latching connection between protective collar and contact carrier is the fact that by the removal of the protective collar from its pre-latching position on the contact carrier in a Endverraststellung also appropriately designed contact partners are actuated. This is particularly important when a so-called zero-force connector is to be achieved. This means that the contact partners are nearly powerless can be brought over the contact partner of the plug and the required contact force is applied to the contact partners manually after pressing the protective collar from its Vorverraststellung in its Endverraststellung from the outside. This facilitates in particular the mating plug and coupler, so that the ease of assembly is improved due to lower applied forces. It can be achieved in this field, higher contact normal forces than conventional connectors.

An exemplary structure of the connector according to the invention, and a resulting assembly sequence are described below and explained with reference to the figures. It should be noted at this point, however, that both the construction shown and described and the assembly sequence described are only examples and can be varied without departing from the inventive concept.

The FIGS. 1 to 7 show, as far as shown in detail, a designated 1 connector, their components and the interaction of these components during assembly. In essence, the connector 1 consists of a coupler, comprising a protective collar 2 (housing) and a contact carrier 3, and a plug, comprising at least one socket 4. The socket 4 is with its details in FIG. 2 shown, wherein it can be seen that the socket 4 is formed as a plug with contact pins 5. In this embodiment, the socket 4 has a base plate 5 (stop surface) and an outgoing, for example, approximately square collar 7, wherein at least one first latching lug 8 and at least one further latching lug 9 are arranged on the socket 4. In this embodiment, two locking lugs 8 are arranged approximately at the upper edge of the collar 7 and in the direction of actuation slightly below it opposite latching lugs 9 also on the collar 7.

FIG. 3 shows an exemplary embodiment of the protective collar 2, which has a latching hook 10 as a first latching means and a further latching hook or a recess 11 as a further latching means. Also in the protective collar 2, as in the socket 4, the arrangement of the locking means opposite and symmetrical, so that these locking means of the protective collar 2 with the locking lugs 8, 9 of the socket 4 can correspond.

FIG. 4 shows the contact carrier in its exemplary construction, wherein contact chambers for receiving contact partners (as a counterpart to the contact pin 5) and a cable are present, but not shown. The contact carrier 3 has outwardly facing latching means which are in this embodiment, a latching tab 12 and a locking lug 13 arranged thereon, wherein the latching lug 13 protrudes from the upper part of the locking tab 12 and the locking tab 12 in turn has a recess 14. These latching means 12 to 14 are arranged on opposite sides of the contact carrier 3 and thus symmetrically. It is also in FIG. 4 already demonstrated the first assembly step, namely that protection collar 2 and contact carrier 3 have been brought into connection, so that a Vorverraststellung between protective collar 2 and contact carrier 3 is given. This Vorverraststellung is achieved by the locking lug 13 of the contact carrier 3 with the latching hook 10 and the tab 12 of the protective collar 2 ( FIG. 3 ). After the locking lug 13 has been fixed to the latching hook 10 and the tab 12, it is no longer possible to remove the contact carrier 3 from the protective collar 2 or to move it in its final position (in particular to push). Characterized in that the contact carrier 3 is fixed in a defined position within the protective collar 2, so that the protective collar 2 is no longer movable as long as the contact carrier 3 completely on the socket 4 (FIG. FIG. 2 ) has been plugged.

This situation is in FIG. 5 shown, in which namely the contact carrier 3 has been moved with its end face 15 in the direction of the base plate 6 of the socket 4 (ie in the longitudinal direction of the connector 1) until the end face 15 comes to rest on the base plate 6. This is given by a defined position between the contact carrier 3 and the socket 4, whereby other means for achieving this position between the contact carrier 3 and socket 4 are conceivable.

Only when, as in FIG. 5 shown, the contact carrier 3 has been completely plugged onto the socket 4, cause the locking means 8, 10, 12 ( FIG. 6 ), that the protective collar 2 can be moved out of its pre-locked position on the contact carrier 3 out in the direction of its Endverraststellung. When this has been done, ie, when the protective collar 2 has also been moved in the longitudinal direction in the direction of the socket 4 and optionally with its end face 16 on the base plate 6 of the socket 4 comes to rest, the locking lug 9 of the socket 4 in the recess 11 of Protective collar 2 engage and thus cause the permanent, but releasable connection between the plug (socket 4) and coupler (protective collar 2 with contact carrier 3). During the step before the complete lock between plug and coupler in FIG. 7 is shown and there recognizable how the respective locking means cooperate, so is the fully mated and latched connector 1 in FIG. 1 shown.

Thus, the invention provides the ability to preassemble a connector 1, consisting of coupler and plug by the protective collar 2 is arranged captive on the contact carrier 3, wherein the contact carrier 3 in turn is equipped with contact partners and cable. After this is done, the ready-made connector (in turn, also with housing, contact partners and cables) can be associated with the pre-assembled coupler, but this is only possible if the contact carrier 3 in a certain desired position (Vorverrastung) is located to the protective collar 2. An assembly would also be possible with a clutch housing in the final detent position, but the forces increase as a result. In addition, the Endverrastung take place only when the contact carrier 3 has been completely mated with the socket 4 of the plug. In addition, the displacement of the protective collar 2 causes from its Vorverraststellung on the contact carrier 3 in the direction of its Endverraststellung on the socket 4 not only the locking between the plug and coupler, but also the application of acting on the contact partners, in particular the coupler forces, so little when mating Force (zero force) is required. Optional attachment is not necessary for locking function.

In a particularly advantageous manner is shown and described in the figures that the structure of the elements of the connector 1 is approximately square or rectangular and at the same time symmetrical. In addition, it is conceivable that the individual components of the plug connection 1 can also have differently shaped cross sections (eg oval or round). In addition, an asymmetric structure is also conceivable by the latching means are arranged only on one side or only at one point of the components of the connector 1 involved. However, the symmetrical structure, as shown in the figures, has the advantage that tilting during assembly of the elements involved excluded and the locking action, ie, the stability is increased.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the latching means which are arranged on the plug, alternatively, can also be arranged on the coupler, in which case the latching means which are arranged on the coupler are alternatively arranged on the plug. Although the locking means to achieve the effect of the invention are designed quite complex, it is easily possible to produce the elements 2 to 4 of the connector 1 made of plastic in an injection molding process quickly and in series, with other materials and manufacturing processes are not excluded.
