Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a grip for wrapping the handle of equipment such as sports equipment, especially rackets for ball games.
Conventional grips for wrapping the handle of sports equipment consist of leather, imitation leather or similar material, which has a satisfactory grip and a certain ability to absorb moisture. The grip and moisture absorption are two important criteria for such grip bands.
The available grip bands are unsatisfactory in many ways. They have a low absorption capacity for moisture, so that they already after taking a relatively small amount of moisture lose their grip and become slippery. A perfect club leadership is then no longer guaranteed. In many devices, especially tennis rackets, but also strong vibrations in the grip, which are not or only slightly attenuated by the conventional grip bands. The vibrations are therefore transmitted to the game hand and then easily lead to diseases of the arm muscles and joints.
The invention has for its object to provide a grip available that simultaneously fulfills a plurality of functions, in particular has a high grip, has a high absorbency and fluid absorbency and also very effectively damps the vibrations occurring on the handle.
This object is achieved by a grip band of the type mentioned, which has a multi-layer structure and consists of three superimposed layers, namely a damping layer of a vibration-damping material, said damping layer is placed directly on the surface of the handle and thus effectively damps the vibrations, an intermediate layer of an absorbent material disposed on the outside of the cushioning layer and capable of absorbing a relatively large amount of moisture, and a cover layer of a material having a rough surface finish and good grip, this cover layer being applied to the intermediate layer; Outside layer of the grip band forms.
The grip band according to the invention is characterized by excellent properties. The damping effect of the damping layer is surprisingly good, which is, inter alia, due to the fact that they pass through the overlying Layers is pressed practically on its entire surface to the surface of the racket handle. Further, the thickness of the cushioning layer can be selected without regard to other characteristics of the grip band, especially grip and moisture absorption capacity. The intermediate layer disposed between the cushioning layer and the cover layer may be made of an absorbent material which has a high moisture-absorbing capacity and good absorbency but only a low mechanical strength, for example a paper absorbent or the like, since this intermediate layer passes through the cover layer is largely protected from mechanical effects. The cover layer can in turn be designed for optimum grip, without having to take into account other properties such as vibration damping and moisture absorption, care being taken only that the cover layer is moisture permeable, so that the moisture from the play hand in the intermediate layer absorbent material passes.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the transversely to the longitudinal direction of the grip band considered width of the damping layer is significantly less than the width of the cover layer and optionally also the intermediate layer. For example, the width of the damping layer is only about half or a little more than the width of the remaining layers. In this way, when helically winding the grip band on the handle, two windings of the damping layer adjacent to one another in the longitudinal direction of the grip can be kept at a certain distance from each other, so that the overlapping edges of the two other layers form a recess extending helically around the grip. Viewed from the side then has the handle wrapped with the handle a ribbed structure, whereby not only the grip is improved, but also prevents the overlapping edges of the grip band disturbing appear. The overlapping areas are rather recessed and thus protected against damage that easily arise in a conventional grip when its tension decreases and the edge areas are lifted and folded.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the grip band, the cover layer is permeable to moisture, which can be achieved through openings for the passage of moisture into the absorbent layer or a high capillarity or a combination of both properties. It is particularly useful to make the top layer of a material that releases sticky substances when moistening and thus increases the grip.
Further features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of an embodiment and from the drawing, to which reference is made.

- Fig. 2

The grip band shown in Fig. 1 consists of three superimposed layers, namely of a
The
The intermediate layer or absorbent layer 2 is made of a material which, although having a very high absorbency and moisture absorbency, does not have to have good mechanical strength. An example is a blotter type paper web.
Also suitable is nonwoven material made of polymaterial, such as polyester microfibers.
The cover layer 3 may be made of a material having similar properties to conventional grip tapes, for example, leather. It must have a good grip and at the same time a good moisture permeability, so that the moisture from the game hand in the intermediate layer 2 can pass. Particularly advantageous is the use of a material that releases sticky substances when moistening, through which the grip is increased.
In use, the grip tape according to the invention proves to be extremely advantageous. The vibrations of the racket are virtually completely eliminated by the
After frequently prolonged use of a grip wrapped in the grip band, the grip band may become unsightly or defective, and the absorbency and capacity of the intermediate layer may decrease. However, since the grip band according to the invention can be manufactured very inexpensively, it means only a small effort to replace a used grip against a new one.
