Theopening 7j is an example of the "opening for partially receiving the mask portion" in the present invention. Aprotrusion 7k for positioning thelight tunnel clip 13 is formed in the vicinity of ends of the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7 along arrows B andD. Wall portions 7l and 7m substantially perpendicular to the supporting 7b and 7c respectively are formed on ends of the supportingsurfaces 7b and 7c along arrow A respectively. Thesurfaces wall portions 7l and 7m have functions of regulating movement of thelight tunnel 12 along arrow A. - As shown in Fig. 2, the
projector 50 comprises asource lamp 10, thecolor wheel 11, thelight tunnel 12, thelight tunnel clip 13, alens group 14, amirror 15, alens 16, theDMD 17 and a printedboard 18. - The
source lamp 10 includes abulb 10a serving as a light source and areflector 10b for reflecting and condensing the light L emitted from thebulb 10a, as shown in Fig. 2. Thissource lamp 10 is stored in a box-type lamp case 19. A coolingfan 28 for cooling thesource lamp 10 is arranged on the side of thesource lamp 10 along arrow C. Air fed from the coolingfan 28 cools thesource lamp 10, and is thereafter discharged from theexhaust port 1b of thefront frame 1. - The
color wheel 11 is rotatably arranged on the position where thereflector 10b condenses the light L emitted from thebulb 10a of thesource lamp 10. Thiscolor wheel 11 has a function of adding colors (red, blue and green, for example) to the light L received from thesource lamp 10. - As shown in Fig. 2, the
light tunnel 12 is opposed to thesource lamp 10 through thecolor wheel 11. Thelight tunnel 12 and thecolor wheel 11 are so arranged that the interval therebetween is several mm (about 3 mm, for example), as shown in Figs. 2 and 13. Thelight tunnel 12 is constituted of four 20, 21, 22 and 23, as shown in Fig. 8. The fourglass plates 20, 21, 22 and 23 haveglass plates 20a, 21a, 22a and 23a respectively. Theouter surfaces outer surface 20a of theglass plate 20 is an example of the "first surface" in the present invention, and the outer surface 20b of theglass plate 21 is an example of the "second surface" in the present invention. Further, the outer surface 20c of theglass plate 22 is an example of the "third surface" in the present invention, and the outer surface 20d of theglass plate 23 is an example of the "fourth surface" in the present invention. The fourglass plates 20 to 23 are assembled into a rectangular parallelepiped, for forming a hollow rectangularlight guide path 12a. The inner surfaces of the fourglass plates 20 to 23 constituting thelight guide path 12a are coated with reflective films (not shown) of silver for uniformizing the light L. As shown in Fig. 8, arectangular inlet 12b and arectangular outlet 12c for the light L traveling along arrow A are provided on both ends of thelight tunnel 12 respectively. In other words, thelight tunnel 12 is so formed as to uniformize and rectangularly shape the light L transmitted through thecolor wheel 11 and reflected by the reflective films of thelight guide path 12a of thelight tunnel 12. - When the
22a and 23a of theouter surfaces 22 and 23 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 are arranged on the projecting 7d and 7e formed on the supportingsupport portions 7b and 7c of the holdingsurfaces portion 7a of thelower casting 7 respectively, thelight tunnel clip 13 fixes thelight tunnel 12. In this case, the projecting 7d and 7e support thesupport portions light tunnel 12 in a state not in contact with the supporting 7b and 7c of the holdingsurfaces portion 7a. Air fed from another coolingfan 25 arranged on the side of thelight tunnel 12 along arrow C is introduced into theair inlets 7f of thelower casting 7 to flow through spaces formed between the supporting 7b and 7c of the holdingsurfaces portion 7a and the 22 and 23 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 respectively, thereby cooling thelight tunnel 12. After cooling thelight tunnel 12, the air is discharged from theexhaust port 1b of thefront frame 1. - According to this embodiment, the
light tunnel clip 13 is formed by an elastically deformable platelike member of springy stainless steel. Further, thelight tunnel clip 13 is provided with 13a, 13b, 13c and 13d, as shown in Figs. 9 to 11. Pressingplate spring portions 13e, 13f, 13g and 13h for pressing theportions 20a and 21a of the twoouter surfaces 20 and 21 toward the holdingadjacent glass plates portion 7a of thelower casting 7 are formed on the forward ends of the 13a, 13b, 13c and 13d respectively. Theplate spring portions 13e and 13f are examples of the "first pressing portion" in the present invention, and thepressing portions 13g and 13h are examples of the "second pressing portion" in the present invention. Thepressing portions 13e and 13f are so formed as to press thepressing portions outer surface 20a of theglass plate 20 of thelight tunnel 12 toward the pair ofsupport portions 7d (see Fig. 5) of the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7. On the other hand, the 13g and 13h are so formed as to press thepressing portions outer surface 21a of theglass plate 21 of thelight tunnel 12 toward the pair ofsupport portions 7e (see Fig. 6) of the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7. - When the
light tunnel clip 13 is mounted on thelower casting 7 for fixing thelight tunnel 12 thereto as shown in Figs. 13 and 14, the 13e and 13g of thepressing portions light tunnel clip 13 are located on positions P1 of thesame line 30 perpendicular to the traveling direction of the light L respectively, as shown in Fig. 9. Therefore, the 13e and 13g have functions of pressing the positions P1 of thepressing portions 20a and 21a of theouter surfaces 20 and 21 located on theglass plates same line 30 perpendicular to the traveling direction of the light L respectively. Theline 30 is an example of the "first line" in the present invention. When thelight tunnel clip 13 is mounted on thelower casting 7, further, the 13f and 13h are located on positions P2 of thepressing portions same line 40 perpendicular to the traveling direction of the light L respectively. Therefore, the 13f and 13h have functions of pressing the positions P2 of thepressing portions 20a and 21a of theouter surfaces 20 and 21 located on theglass plates line 40 perpendicular to the traveling direction of the light L respectively. Theline 40 is an example of the "second line" in the present invention. - According to this embodiment, the three engaging
pawls 13i engaging with the engagingholes 7g of thelower casting 7 are formed on an end of thelight tunnel clip 13 along arrow C, as shown in Fig. 10. The threeengaging pawls 13i have outwardly bent forward ends. Further, the hooked engagingpawl 13j engaging with the engaginghole 7h of thelower casting 7 is formed on another end of thelight tunnel clip 13 along arrow D, as shown in Fig. 11. This engagingpawl 13j is so formed as to nip anedge 7n of the engaginghole 7h of thelower casting 7. The engagingpawls 13i are examples of the "first engaging pawl" in the present invention, and the engagingpawl 13j is an example of the "second engaging pawl" in the present invention. These engaging 13i and 13j are rendered elastically deformable. When thepawls light tunnel clip 13 is mounted on thelower casting 7 for fixing thelight tunnel 12 thereto as shown in Figs. 13 and 14, the engagingpawl 13j engages with the engaginghole 7h of thelower casting 7 as shown in Figs. 12 and 15 while the three engagingpawls 13i engage with the three engagingholes 7g of thelower casting 7 as shown in Figs. 12 and 16. - According to this embodiment, the
mask portion 13k is formed on still another end of thelight tunnel clip 13 along arrow B. Themask portion 13k is provided with arectangular opening 13m corresponding to theinlet 12b of thelight tunnel 12. Therefore, themask portion 13k can prevent the surface of thelight tunnel 12 from incidence of the light L by partially passing the light L emitted from thesource lamp 10 only through theinlet 12b of thelight tunnel 12 and blocking the remaining light progressing toward the outer periphery of thelight tunnel 12. Anupper end 13n of themask portion 13k along arrow B comes into contact with theprotrusion 7k of thelower casting 7 for positioning thelight tunnel clip 13, thereby regulating upward movement of thelight tunnel clip 13. When thelight tunnel clip 13 is mounted on thelower casting 7 as shown in Fig. 13, the lower end of themask portion 13k is fitted into theopening 7j of thelower casting 7, so that themask portion 13k does not interfere with thecolor wheel 11 due to positional deviation resulting from dispersion in working accuracy for folding themask portion 13k. - As shown in Fig. 2, the
lens group 14, arranged on the side of theoutlet 12c of thelight tunnel 12, has a function of forming images on theDMD 17. Themirror 15 has a function of condensing the light L transmitted through thelens group 14 on thelens 16. ThisDMD 17 has a large number of reflecting portions on the surface thereof, for varying these reflecting portions with image signals and forming images in response to presence/absence of reflected light. The printedboard 26 is mounted on theDMD 17, for controlling theDMD 17. Aheat sink member 27 is mounted on the printedboard 26 for radiating heat from theDMD 17. - Operations of the
projector 50 according to this embodiment are now described with reference to Fig. 2. First, thereflector 10b of thesource lamp 10 condenses the light L emitted from thebulb 10a of thesource lamp 10, as shown in Fig. 2. Thereafter thecolor wheel 11 colors the light L, which in turn is introduced into thelight guide path 12a through theinlet 12b of thelight tunnel 12. Then, the light L is rectangularly shaped by thelight guide path 12a of thelight tunnel 12 to travel along arrow F, transmitted through thelens group 14 and reflected by themirror 15. The light L reflected by themirror 15 travels along arrow G, to be transmitted through thelens 16 and introduced into theDMD 17. Thus, the light L corresponding to images formed by theDMD 17 travels along arrow H, and theprojection lens 8 enlarges the images and projects the same on a screen or the like. - According to this embodiment, the
projector 50, provided with thelight tunnel clip 13 including the 13e and 13g (13f and 13h) pressing the positions P1 (P2) of thepressing portions 20a and 21a of the twoouter surfaces 20 and 21 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 located on the substantially same line 30 (40) perpendicular to the traveling direction of the light L respectively as hereinabove described, can press the positions P1 (P2) of the 20a and 21a of the twoouter surfaces 20 and 21 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 located on the substantially same line 30 (40) perpendicular to the traveling direction of the light L with the 13e and 13g (13f and 13h) respectively, thereby suppressing deviation of positions subjected to pressing force acting on thepressing portions outer surfaces 20a and 21b of the 20 and 21 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 along the traveling direction of the light L. Thus, thelight tunnel 12, stably held on the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7, can be inhibited from positional deviation resulting from vibration of motors etc. of the cooling 25 and 28.fans - According to this embodiment, as hereinabove described, the
light tunnel clip 13, provided with the three engagingpawls 13i and the hooked engagingpawl 13j engaging with the three engagingholes 7g and the engaginghole 7h formed on thelower casting 7 respectively, can be mounted on thelower casting 7 by engaging the three engagingpawls 13i and the hooked engagingpawl 13j with the three engagingholes 7g and the engaginghole 7h respectively. Thus, a step of mounting thelight tunnel clip 13 can be simplified as compared with a case of mounting thelight tunnel clip 13 on thelower casting 7 through screws or the like, and the number of components can be reduced. Further, the engaging 13i and 13j are composed of the springy material to be elastically deformable, whereby vibration of thepawls light tunnel 12 can be absorbed dissimilarly to a case of fixing thelight tunnel clip 13 to thelower casting 7 with screws. In addition, thepositioning protrusion 7k is so integrally provided on the lower casting that the integrally providedpositioning protrusion 7k can be brought into contact with theupper end 13n of themask portion 13k of thelight tunnel clip 13 for upwardly positioning thelight tunnel clip 13, whereby thelight tunnel clip 13 can be positioned without any additional component. - According to the aforementioned embodiment, the
lower casting 7 is provided with theopening 7j capable of receiving themask portion 13k of thelight tunnel clip 13, whereby themask portion 13k of thelight tunnel clip 13 can be partially fitted into theopening 7j of thelower casting 7, to be prevented from positional deviation resulting from dispersion in working accuracy for folding themask portion 13k. Thus, themask portion 13k and thecolor wheel 11 arranged at the interval of several mm can be prevented from interfering with each other, to be prevented from breakage. Further, The holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7 is provided with the projecting 7d and 7e supporting prescribed portions of thesupport portions 22a and 23a of theouter surfaces 22 and 23 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 respectively so that the prescribed portions of the 22a and 23a of theouter surfaces 22 and 23 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 can be arranged on the projecting 7d and 7e of the holdingsupport portions portion 7a of thelower casting 7 respectively, thereby forming spaces between the supporting 7b and 7c of the holdingsurfaces portion 7 and the 22 and 23 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 respectively. In addition, the supportingsurface 7b of the holdingportion 7a is so provided with theair inlets 7f that air introduced from theair inlets 7f of the holdingportion 7a can flow through the spaces formed between the holdingportion 7a and the 22 and 23 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 by the 7d and 7e respectively, whereby cooling efficiency for thesupport portions light tunnel 12 can be improved. - According to the aforementioned embodiment, the
13e and 13f of thepressing portions light tunnel clip 13 are so formed as to press first and second sides of theglass plate 20 of thelight tunnel 12 along the extensional direction of thelight tunnel 12 toward the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7 respectively, whereby thelight tunnel 12 can be stably held on the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7. - According to the aforementioned embodiment, the
13g and 13h of thepressing portions light tunnel clip 13 are so formed as to press first and second sides of theglass plate 21 of thelight tunnel 12 along the extensional direction of thelight tunnel 12 toward the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7 respectively, whereby thelight tunnel 12 can be stably held on the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7. Further, the 13e and 13g press the positions P1 located on thepressing portions line 30 perpendicular to the traveling direction of the light L respectively while the 13f and 13h press the positions P2 located on thepressing portions line 40 perpendicular to the traveling direction of the light L respectively so that the 13e, 13f, 13g and 13h can press thepressing portions light tunnel 12 from above the two 30 and 40, whereby thelines light tunnel 12 can be more stably held on the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7. - According to the aforementioned embodiment, the holding
portion 7a of thelower casting 7 is provided with thewall portions 7l and 7m regulating the position of thelight tunnel 12 along arrow A in the extensional direction thereof, whereby thelight tunnel 12 can be easily inhibited from shifting along arrow A in the extensional direction thereof. - According to the aforementioned embodiment, the
13e, 13f, 13g and 13h, rendered elastically deformable in the directions for pressing thepressing portions light tunnel 12 respectively, can be so elastically deformed in the directions for pressing thelight tunnel 12 as to press the 20a and 21a of theouter surfaces 20 and 21 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 respectively also when the 13e, 13f, 13g and 13h are dispersed in working accuracy, whereby thepressing portions light tunnel 12 can be more stably held on the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7. - According to the aforementioned embodiment, the
13e, 13f, 13g and 13h linearly come into contact with thepressing portions 20a and 21a of theouter surfaces 20 and 21 of theglass plates light tunnel 12 in the directions (along arrows C and D) intersecting with the extensional direction of thelight tunnel 12 respectively for inhibiting thelight tunnel 12 from jolting in the directions (along arrows C and D) intersecting with the extensional direction thereof, whereby thelight tunnel 12 can be more stably held on the holdingportion 7a of thelower casting 7. - Although the present invention has been described and illustrated in detail, it is clearly understood that the same is by way of illustration and example only and is not to be taken by way of limitation, the spirit and scope of the present invention being limited only by the terms of the appended claims, as interpreted by the description and drawings.
