Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to an elevator platform for motor vehicles and materials, and to an operating installation.
- Vehicle elevator platforms are known comprising a pair of uprights to be fixed to the floor and wall, and a platform movable vertically along said uprights to pass from a lower position to an upper position raised above the lower position.
- Such platforms are generally used in private parking areas of residences, hotels or apartment blocks, to move the vehicle from street level to one or more lower or upper storeys on which several vehicles are parked.
- Elevator platforms exist in which the uprights are positioned to the sides of the platform, or in which the platform presents uprights only on one of the major sides. In the case of a platform connecting to a space below ground level, the platform can be provided with four columns supporting a panel which perfectly closes the aperture in the road surface when the platform is completely lowered.
- These known platform elevators have however been shown to be susceptible to improvement with regard to the safety of the passenger seated in th vehicle during the ascent or descent of the platform.
- Document
EP 0731240 A discloses an elevator platform having the features of the preamble of claim 1. - This object is attained according to the invention by a motor vehicle elevator platform as described in claim 1.
- A preferred embodiment of the present invention is described in detail hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
- Figure 1
- is a front view of an elevator platform according to the invention,
- Figure 2
- is a side view thereof,
- Figure 3
- is a plan view thereof, and
- Figure 4
- shows a variant of the locking means.
- As can be seen from the figures, the elevator platform according to the invention comprises substantially a pair of
uprights 4 and aplatform 6 slidable along theuprights 4. - Each upright consists of an H section bar provided along its entire length with
welded plates 9 for its fixing to the wall and having a bottom weldedplate 8 for its fixing to the ground. - Two
T section bars 10 having one flange carrying arack 14 are interposed between theuprights 4. - The platform is constructed of transversely embossed metal plate, one of the transverse channels thereof housing a
transverse bar 16 which can rotate about its longitudinal axis and carries welded to its ends twopinions 18 constantly engaged in thecorresponding racks 14. - Two hydraulic cylinder-
piston units 20 of vertical axis are fixed to thebase plate 8, to theirpiston rod 22 there being connected a pulley 24 about which there pass twochains 26 which at one end are fixed to the uprights and at the other end are fixed to the platform. - The two cylinder-piston units are fed by a single electro-hydraulic control centre (not shown in the drawings). It contains a maximum pressure valve for controlling the overload on the platform, both when rising and when descending. A pressure gauge 25 displays the system pressure during normal operation. On that major side closer to the columns, the platform is provided with a
vertical protection piece 38 in the form of a plate covering the columns, this plate being provided with a compartment containing apushbutton unit 28 for controlling the movement of the platform during maintenance. In its centre the platform is provided with ahole 32 in which awooden panel 34 is inserted, carrying on its lower side a device for sensing vehicle presence, consisting of amagnetic sensor 35. - On that major side of the platform more distant from the uprights there are provided two
columns 36 provided withphotoelectric cells 37 to monitor the amount by which the vehicle projects from the platform. By means of another photoelectric cell mounted on thecolumn 36 the major side of the platform is monitored, in such a manner as to form an ideal rectangle representing the containing region for the vehicle mounted on the platform. - A
volumetric radar device 29 directed towards the vehicle is also applied to thevertical plate 38, to monitor any movements of persons on the platform during its transit. - Below the platform there are provided two articulated
arms 30 which under normal conditions are disposed substantially in a horizontal configuration but which when rotated through 90° form a support for the platform within the containingpit 33 to facilitate platform inspection and maintenance. - A
semaphore 3 is provided on one side of the pit at the upper storey aperture to indicate correct platform positioning at that storey. - The elevator platform of the invention also comprises two safety devices which intervene if the
chains 26 slacken or if the platform suddenly falls. - Specifically, a shoe 39 is provided, urged elastically against the
chain 26 and connected to a normally deactivated switch 40 which, if the chain slackens, is activated by the movement of the shoe 39. The switch generally blocks electrical feed to the electrical panel and in particular blocks power to the pump feeding oil to the cylinder-piston units during the ascent of the platform, while during its descent blocks power to the solenoid valve. - An endless metal cable 41 passing about two return pulleys is also rigid with the
platform 6. A lever rigid with said cable is provided with aclamp 43 which slides along the central flange of theT section bar 10 and remains disengaged therefrom if the cable 41 is travelling at constant speed, i.e. during regular ascent or descent of the platform. - If the platform accelerates due to sudden falling, the lever intervenes in the sense of causing the flange to be clamped by the
clamp 43. - The radar device, the magnetic sensor and the photoelectric cell are all connected to a control unit which, if an irregularity is indicated (person leaving the vehicle, vehicle not correctly positioned on the platform, lifting of non-metallic bodies), causes the hydraulic control centre to block the pump feeding oil to the cylinder-piston units.
- Within the floor slab of the arrival storey or storeys two seats 44 are provided, housing two cylinder-
piston units 45 of horizontal axis, the piston rod 47 of which, when extended, forms a locking bolt engagable in a bush 46 provided in the edge of the platform. - The elevator platform of the invention is used in the following manner:
- when the platform is coplanar with the floor of the lower or upper storey (condition in which the piston rods 47 are inserted into a corresponding bush 46), the vehicle is driven onto the platform and positioned so as not to interfere with the photoelectric cells.
- At this point, using a remote control, the driver causes the platform to move along the uprights, this movement comprising in succession:
- disengaging the piston rods 47 from the bushes,
- feeding oil into the hydraulic cylinder-piston units to cause the
piston rods 22 of the cylinder-piston units 20 to retract or extend. - In this stage, because of the rigid torsional connection between the two
pinions 18 and their constant engagement with therack 14, the elongation of the cylinder-piston units is identical independently of any load unbalance on the platform, which therefore ascends while remaining perfectly parallel to the ground. - If one of the two hydraulic cylinders fractures, the torsional connection is able to maintain the platform stable, so preventing falling.
- If the user inadvertently opens a door and this interferes with the field of action of the photoelectric cells, the signal fed to the control unit causes the hydraulic control centre to block the oil feed pump. Likewise a similar command is fed to the hydraulic control centre if the user leaves the vehicle, as the user's presence is detected by the radar device.
- If the user wishes to move on the platform, the
radar device 29 must be deactivated - In a variant, not shown in the drawings, the entire edge of the platform is provided with a parapet which is rigid along the major sides, whereas it is removable on the minor sides to enable the vehicle to transit.
- In the embodiment shown in
Figure 4 , a variant of the system for sensing chain slackening is represented. The safety device consists of acup spring 48 contained in anexpandable socket 49 the base of which is conical and is traversed by apin 50 connected to the twochains 26. - Facing the base of the socket there is a
microswitch 51 which generally blocks electrical feed to the electrical panel, and in particular blocks power to the pump feeding oil to the cylinder-piston units during the ascent of the platform, while during its descent blocks power to the solenoid valve. - During normal operation the
cup spring 48 remains compressed by the weight of the platform. If a cylinder-piston unit or the chain breaks, the elastic reaction of the spring, no longer urged to compress, causes thesocket 49 to expand so that its conical base activates themicroswitch 51. - With the platform there is also associated a
control console 52 accessible to the driver while seated in the vehicle driver's seat. The console is provided in particular with control pushbuttons for: - ascent,
- descent,
- alarm with activation and possible remote assistance (short press on pushbutton for alarm activation, long press for remote assistance),
- microphone connected to a loudspeaker provided in the machine room,
- pushbutton unit to be broken in case of fire. On operation, this pushbutton unit emits an alarm signal, the platform is lowered to the ground, the door lock is released and power is shut off to the motor of the pump feeding oil to the hydraulic cylinder-piston units.
- The
platform 6 of the invention can be housed within a protected vertical bay provided with a lighting system, and comprising for example a wall, an enclosure with perforated metal sheeting provided with doors to the storeys, electrically operated locks and a control panel combined with the hydraulic control centre, and positioned in a service room adjacent to the shaft.
