Definitions
- the invention relates to a camshaft for motor vehicle engines, in particular, having an end element arranged in / on the camshaft and fixedly connected to the camshaft, in accordance with the preamble of claim 1.
- Such termination elements are for example from document DE 197 03 821 known and serve as an axial termination of the camshaft and as a drive element for a driven side arranged auxiliary unit.
- end elements are made of solid material used, which are firmly connected to an axial end side of the camshaft and which are designed so that they meet the existing requirements for a torque to be transmitted long term.
- the disadvantage here, however, that such end elements of solid material on the one hand are heavy and thereby increase a total weight of the camshaft or the engine and thus the motor vehicle and on the other hand consuming and thus expensive to manufacture.
- the invention is concerned with the problem of improving a camshaft of the type mentioned above in that Overall, a weight-reduced camshaft can be created, which is also cheaper to produce.
- the invention is based on the general idea, responsible for the transmission of the drive torque to an accessory final element, which is arranged axially in or on the camshaft and fixedly connected thereto, form as a sheet metal part.
- a sheet metal part has in comparison to a made of solid material terminating element a significantly lower weight, which has a positive effect on an energy balance of the equipped with the camshaft according to the invention motor vehicle.
- the production of a formed as a sheet metal part closure element is much easier and cheaper than a comparable end element made of solid material. It is also of particular advantage that such a closure element can be produced in virtually any shape without the need for costly changes to the production machines. It is sufficient, for example, a simple exchange of the punch and die in the appropriate forming tool. Trained as a sheet metal part closing element transmits the torque load occurring in such a way from the axial end portion of the camshaft on the accessory that the torque load occurring over the entire life the camshaft or the final element can be easily transferred.
- the end element is punched, pulled and / or hardened.
- Modern punching methods enable production of the terminating element according to the invention with low unit costs and high precision at the same time.
- High manufacturing quality with low unit costs are nowadays crucial competitive advantages, which can thus be realized by the final element according to the invention.
- Hardening of the end element increases the wear resistance of the same and extends its life.
- the closing element is glued over its first coupling region fixed to the camshaft, pressed, welded or bolted via a formed on the first coupling portion peripheral thread which cooperates with a mating thread on the camshaft.
- the second coupling region of the closing element is designed as a bearing shell or groove running transversely to the camshaft axis and open towards the axial end of the camshaft, thereby enlarging a bearing surface of a complementary driver and engaging in the bearing shell or the groove of the auxiliary assembly arranged on the output side.
- the second coupling region designed as a bearing shell or as a groove preferably engages in recesses in the camshaft jacket which are open toward the axial end of the camshaft.
- the bearing shell or groove which is open towards the axial end of the camshaft is completely free in its design, so that in particular a longitudinal extent of the bearing shell extending transversely to the camshaft axis can be adapted to the respective requirements.
- Fig. 1a an axial end portion of a camshaft 1 is shown, on which a fixedly connected to the camshaft 1 terminating element 2 is arranged.
- the end element 2 closes the camshaft 1 in the axial direction and is at the same time designed as a drive element for a driven side arranged and not shown accessory.
- the closing element 2 is designed as a shaped sheet metal part, wherein it can be stamped, drawn and / or hardened, for example.
- the final element 2 has according to the Fig. 1a - d a first coupling portion 3, via which it is fixedly connected to the camshaft 1, and a second coupling portion 4, via which it can be drive-connected to the output-side auxiliary unit.
- the closing element 2 penetrates according to the Sectional views in Fig. 1a and b in a circular cylindrical cavity 5 of the camshaft 1 and is at least partially with parts of the first coupling region 3 on an inner circumferential surface 6 of the camshaft 1 at.
- an attachment of the end element 2 can be realized via its first coupling region 3 with the camshaft 1 via an adhesive bond, a compression or a weld, wherein it is also conceivable that a peripheral thread, for example an external thread, is provided on the first coupling region 3 a mating thread, such as an internal thread, on the inner circumferential surface 6 of the camshaft 1 cooperates and thereby realizes the attachment of the closing element 2 on the camshaft 1 via a screw.
- a screw connection can facilitate replacement or replacement of the end element 2 according to the invention.
- For a high operating or service life designed as a sheet metal part closure element 2 is preferably cured.
- the second coupling region 4 of the end element 2 is in accordance with Fig. 1a - 1d as running transversely to the camshaft axis 7 and the axial end of the camshaft 1 through open bearing shell 8, which for example has a groove-like shape, and thereby increases a bearing surface of a complementary trained and engaging in the bearing shell 8, not shown driver of the driven side arranged auxiliary unit.
- the bearing shell 8 and the groove extends gem. of the Fig. 1a in the picture plane, whereas according to the Fig. 1b perpendicular runs to the image plane.
- the second coupling region 4 may have different, extending transversely to the camshaft axis 7, longitudinal extents, wherein it is conceivable that as in the Fig.
- the second coupling portion 4 of two coupling portions 9 and 9 ' is formed, which are preferably radially outside the outer diameter of the camshaft 1. It is of course also conceivable that the two coupling portions 9 and 9 'adjoin one another and thereby together form the second coupling region 4, starting from the camshaft axis 7 radially outwards to at most the inner diameter of the camshaft 1. Also to be enclosed by the invention is a second coupling region 4, which extends starting from the camshaft axis 7 radially outward to beyond the outer diameter of the camshaft 1 addition. Such a second coupling region 4 would be realized, for example, in that the two coupling sections 9 and 9 'according to the Fig. 2d each extend radially inward to the camshaft axis 7 and touch there.
- auxiliary unit engages trained as a bearing shell 8 or as a groove second coupling region 4 in the axial end of the camshaft 1 open recesses 10 in the camshaft casing 11 a.
- the two coupling sections 9 and 9 ' are formed complementary to the recesses 10 in the camshaft casing 11, so that a positive connection is formed. This will become independent of the selected mounting of the closing element 2 on the camshaft 1, the closing element 2 rotatably connected to the camshaft 1.
- the closing element 2 closes the camshaft 1 axially close to the end, that is, the first coupling region 3 is positively and tightly against the inner circumferential surface 6 of the camshaft 1 at.
- a closing element 2 which has a similar structure as the closing element 2 according to the Fig. 1a - 1d has, wherein the two coupling portions 9 and 9 'are extended radially inwardly. It is conceivable that the two coupling sections 9 and 9 'according to the Fig. 2d are extended so far radially inwards that they touch, as indicated by the broken line drawn. The two coupling sections 9 and 9 'are connected to each other via connecting webs 18. Such an extended second coupling region 4 increases the bearing surface for a driver engaging in the bearing shell 8.
- the Fig. 3a - 3d show a variant of a closure element 2, wherein compared to the Fig. 1 and 2 the first coupling portion 3 is extended in the direction of the second coupling portion 4 so as to provide a connection between the two coupling portions 9 and 9 '.
- This is unlike the Fig. 1 and 2 a particularly stable second coupling region 4 is created.
- the closing element 2 is arranged completely in the inner cavity 5 of the camshaft 1.
- the second coupling region 4 extends radially outwards and ends before the inner diameter of the camshaft 1 is reached.
- the recess 10 in the camshaft jacket 11 is not provided in this case.
- a closure element 2 which comprises the camshaft 1 axially end side with its first coupling region 3, so that an inner circumferential surface 12 (see. Fig. 5a ) of the first coupling region 3 of the closing element 2 rests positively on an outer circumferential surface 13 of the camshaft 1.
- No recesses 10 are provided in the camshaft casing 11, so that here too the second coupling region 4 lies radially within the inner diameter of the camshaft 1.
- the first coupling region 3 of the end element 2 not only the axial direction of the camshaft 1, but is additionally applied to the inner circumferential surface 6 of the camshaft 1, whereby a positive and dense Connection between the end element 2 and the camshaft 1 is achieved.
- a positive and dense Connection between the end element 2 and the camshaft 1 is achieved.
- the Fig. 6a to 6d each show a variant of the end element 2 according to the invention, in which the first coupling region 3 also as in the Fig. 5a to 5d is formed such that it rests on the one hand on the inner circumferential surface 6 of the camshaft 1 and at the same time the camshaft 1 axially end, so that the inner circumferential surface 12 of the closing element 2 rests positively on the outer circumferential surface 13 of the camshaft 1.
- the second coupling region 4 is divided into two coupling sections 9 and 9 ', which extend radially outwardly starting from the outer diameter of the camshaft 1.
- No recesses 10 provided in the camshaft casing 11. According to the Fig.
- the closure element 2 additionally has an annular collar 17 which projects radially outward beyond the outer diameter of the camshaft 1. At the same time closes the closing element 2 in its embodiment according to the Fig. 6a to 6d to the axial end of the camshaft 1, so that the closing element 2 is not flush with the camshaft 1.
- the second coupling region 4 likewise does not engage in recesses 10 in the camshaft casing 11 and, moreover, is subsequently arranged in the axial direction at the end of the camshaft 1.
- the second coupling region 4 likewise has two coupling sections 9 and 9 ', which widen radially inwardly, starting from the inner diameter of the camshaft 1, so that the driver of a downstream auxiliary device transmits torque only via the two coupling sections 9 and 9' lie radially outside the inner diameter of the camshaft 1 experiences.
- a termination element 2 which has a continuous second coupling region 4, which extends radially from the camshaft axis 7 to beyond the outer diameter of the camshaft 1 addition.
- the first coupling region 3 is web-like, so that the end element 2 according to the Fig. 8 the camshaft 1 does not close off axially at the end.
- a rotationally fixed connection between the end element 2 and the camshaft 1 is achieved by engagement of the second coupling region 4 on both sides into corresponding recesses 10 in the camshaft casing 11.
- the second coupling region 4 has a bulbous thickening in the region which lies radially inside the inner diameter of the camshaft 1, whereby a displacement securing in the transverse direction to the camshaft axis 7 is provided.
- the final element 2 according to the Fig. 9a - 9d no additional first coupling region 3 is provided on the end element 2, so that a connection between the end element 2 and the camshaft 1 is achieved only by engagement of the second coupling region 4 in corresponding recesses 10 on the camshaft casing 11 and the structural thickening 14.
- Similar in the Fig. 8a to 8d also closes the closing element 2 according to the Fig. 9a - 9d the camshaft 1 axial end not tight.
- a closure element 2 according to the Fig. 10a - 10d a radially extending beyond the outer diameter of the camshaft 1 second coupling region 4, which is formed like a channel, and which engages in corresponding recesses 10 on the camshaft casing 11.
- the two webs 16 and 16 'thus form the first coupling region 3.
- Similar as in the 8 and 9 also closes the closing element 2 according to the Fig. 10 flush with one axial end of the camshaft 1, so that only the final element 2 according to the Fig. 7 protrudes beyond an axial end of the camshaft 1.
- the end element 2 can additionally be designed as an assembly aid and / or serve as such, and thereby facilitate, for example, an angle of rotation accurate assembly of the camshaft 1 and / or the output side auxiliary unit.

The invention is concerned with the problem of improving a camshaft of the type mentioned above in that Overall, a weight-reduced camshaft can be created, which is also cheaper to produce.
This problem is solved according to the invention by the subject matter of independent claim 1.
The invention is based on the general idea, responsible for the transmission of the drive torque to an accessory final element, which is arranged axially in or on the camshaft and fixedly connected thereto, form as a sheet metal part. Such a sheet metal part has in comparison to a made of solid material terminating element a significantly lower weight, which has a positive effect on an energy balance of the equipped with the camshaft according to the invention motor vehicle. In addition, the production of a formed as a sheet metal part closure element is much easier and cheaper than a comparable end element made of solid material.
Suitably, the end element is punched, pulled and / or hardened. Modern punching methods enable production of the terminating element according to the invention with low unit costs and high precision at the same time. High manufacturing quality with low unit costs are nowadays crucial competitive advantages, which can thus be realized by the final element according to the invention. Hardening of the end element increases the wear resistance of the same and extends its life.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the solution according to the invention the closing element is glued over its first coupling region fixed to the camshaft, pressed, welded or bolted via a formed on the first coupling portion peripheral thread which cooperates with a mating thread on the camshaft. The mentioned connection variants already prove the manifold possibilities of a connection between the end element and the camshaft, the connection being freely selectable depending on the quality requirements or also on other boundary conditions. This offers a high degree of flexibility with regard to the use of the closure element according to the invention. In particular, the connection via a screw allows moreover in a repair easy replacement and replacement of the end element.
Expediently, the second coupling region of the closing element is designed as a bearing shell or groove running transversely to the camshaft axis and open towards the axial end of the camshaft, thereby enlarging a bearing surface of a complementary driver and engaging in the bearing shell or the groove of the auxiliary assembly arranged on the output side. In this case, the second coupling region designed as a bearing shell or as a groove preferably engages in recesses in the camshaft jacket which are open toward the axial end of the camshaft. The bearing shell or groove which is open towards the axial end of the camshaft is completely free in its design, so that in particular a longitudinal extent of the bearing shell extending transversely to the camshaft axis can be adapted to the respective requirements. The engagement of the bearing shell in the axial end of the camshaft open towards recesses in the camshaft casing guarantees a rotationally fixed connection between the closing element and the camshaft, wherein the camshaft casing lined by the engaging in the recesses arms of the end element and reinforced and thereby additionally protected against excessive wear are.
