Abstract

The device is characterized by the presence of a lighting body (1, 100) comprising on the surface, in the portion destined to remain visible, one or more optical diffusing devices (2, 101) engaged on LED-based lighting sources (11, 102), where the latter, together with the relative piloting devices, are coated by an elastomeric material (12, 107) and inserted inside a containment case (6, 104) together with a case filling material (7, 103) so as to create a peripheral optical signaling system for road surfaces, gardens, and parking lots.

Description

  • The object of this invention is a manufactured article of various forms and sizes, capable of replacing the present lighting and signalling beacons for prevalently outdoor uses, containing a preferably LED-based lighting source, fully insulated except for the optical light diffusing part and fitted with a weatherproof and trample-proof connecting cable.
  • The present beacons or lighting sources contained in lighting articles and suitable for wall, ground, floor and road surface mounting are constructed of various plastic materials such as polycarbonate, steel or aluminium and can practically all be opened to replace the lighting source. When a high degree of electrical insulation from the surrounding environment is desired, they cannot, once opened, guarantee a seal after a subsequent re-closing, because of the type of peripheral gaskets employed. Document DE 2531968 describes a lighting device according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • The object of this invention overcomes these limitations, while also adding the advantages of a direct mounting on the ground as well as on a variety of surfaces, such as preferably, yet not exclusively, on floors, tiles, kerbs, traffic dividers, and road surfaces.
  • For this purpose, based on the general solution concept and on its preferred particular forms of embodiment, the invention is characterized in accordance with the claims outlined below.
  • The characteristics of the invention will become better evident from the description to follow, which refers toof embodiment examples of a non-limiting character, offered with reference to the enclosed drawings, which show:
  • Fig.1A:
    a first example of an embodiment of a beacon according to the invention, in a schematic front and sectional view;
    Fig.1B:
    a schematic front and sectional view of a housing of Fig.1A beacon;
    Fig.2A:
    a second example of a beacon embodiment according to the invention;
    Fig.2B:
    a schematic front and sectional view of a housing of Fig.2A beacon;
    Fig.3:
    a schematic prospective view of an example of mounting the beacons of the type shown in Figure 1A and 1B on a road surface;
    Fig.4:
    a schematic prospective view of an example of mounting the beacons of the type shown in Figs. 1A and 1B, 2A and 2B, on a ground or on tiles.
  • The Figures 1A and 1B refer to a first embodiment example of a beacon 1 according to the invention having a cylindrical form, while the Figures 2A and 2B refer to a second embodiment example of a beacon 100 having a parallelepiped form.
  • In these figures, the meaning of the various parts is as follows:
  • 11, 102:
    preferably LED- based light sources of various sizes, comprising both a piloting system (electronic cards) and LED sources.
    2,101:
    Surface diffusing optical devices, of various preferably yet not exclusively convex, concave or flat forms for diffusing the light emitted by the sources 11 and 102, mainly and preferably made of trample-proof polycarbonate and glass;
    12, 107:
    outer protective layers on the lighting sources, made of a preferably yet not exclusively elastomeric or plastic material;
    6, 104:
    outer containment cases for the source and filling material 7, 103, preferably yet not exclusively made of steel, polycarbonate or plastic material;
    7, 103.
    filling material between the elements 6 and 12 e between 104 and 107, composed of preferably yet not exclusively made of cement, gypsum, resins, vinyl and its derivatives, materials that may also be mixed with other materials preferably yet not exclusively of a pigmented granular and powdered type (schematically represented in parts 3 and 105) for the purpose of conferring surface colours and configurations adapting to various environments;
    500, 111:
    upper surfaces of the material 7, 103, set at the same level of the upper rim of the cases 6 and 104 and of the optical devices 2 and 101;
    9,109:
    preferential form of a tool usable for easing the extraction of the beacon from its housing;
    10, 110:
    terminal hooks of the tools 9 and 109;
    4,106:
    cavities destined for engaging with the hooks 10 and 110;
    50, 150:
    housings of the beacons 1 and 100;
    53, 153:
    cases of the housings 50 and 150, made preferably yet not exclusively, like cases 6 and 104, of steel, polycarbonate, or plastic materials;
    5:
    projections present on the case 6, destined to engage, while mounting, in an appropriate groove provided in the housing 50, so as to create a bayonet-type joint;
    8:
    terminal board (with screw-tightened or coupling clamps) for connecting the feed terminals of the sources 11 to the conductors 13 of the external feeding system;
    52:
    housing of the terminal board 8;
    108:
    tightening screws for fastening the beacon 100 within the housing 150;
    152:
    threaded housings, destined for engaging with the tips of the screws 108.
    The various references in Figure 3 are used to indicate:
    204:
    a road surface;
    204:
    horizontal stripes indicating a pedestrian crossing;
    202:
    the lighting body and its previously described housing, viewed as a whole;
    201:
    optical diffusion systems, differing from those previously shown because of a slightly raised mounting with respect to the upper surface of the lighting body 203, set on a road surface level, so that while keeping its trample-proof form, its visibility is also afforded at small angles from the fastening plane, so as to permit it to be viewed at 360°; this latter characteristic, together with the beacon's ability of being rolled-over by heavy vehicles because of the filling material's strength and the optical diffusers' limited size, allows creating innovative road lighting systems of an optical type, such as peripheral boundary elements for pedestrian or roadway areas (in the latter case, the safety signalling system is of a combined optical/acoustic/mechanical type, as it happens to be first of an optical nature, and later of a mechanical and acoustic nature in relation to the vibrations induced by the rolling-over of transit means, in particular if the beacons are set up in an appropriate manner and at regular intervals).
  • Figure 4 shows an applicative variant of the invention that allows mounting it preferably yet not exclusively directly on the ground and/or between the tiles of the beacons shown in Figures 1 and 2.
  • Should it be necessary to replace the lighting sources in a mounted beacon, it suffices disconnecting the beacon from its housing 50 or 150 and replacing it with a new one, while safeguarding the degree of electrical insulation required.
  • It is worth noting the fact that the invention and its variants described here may undergo numerous modifications of its constructive details on a practical and applicative level, such as of the inventive form which may differ from those shown in the Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 that depict only a preferential embodiment of the subject invention, as this may assume various forms based on its ultimate destinations, for instance as distance markers or garden lightings.
  • The materials used may similarly differ from the preferential one based on cement, for instance a plastic material, without thereby abandoning the inventive concept, as claimed in the following.
