Claims (9)

  1. Internal combustion engine cylinder block (1) comprising an upper portion (2) comprising a plurality of cylindrical bores (3) aligned in a longitudinal direction and a water jacket (4) surrounding said bores, a lower portion (5) such as a skirt and defining a volume for a crankshaft mechanism, the cylinder block (1) comprising two longitudinal faces arranged on either side of the alignment of the cylindrical bores (3), characterised in that at least one of the two longitudinal faces of the cylinder block comprises at least a first set of casings (6, 7) forming chambers (6, 7) which do not communicate with one another and having a common outer wall extending continuously over a portion of the length of a longitudinal face, and in that the inner chamber of at least one casing (6, 7) communicates at least in places with the inner volume of the cylinder block (1).
  2. Cylinder block (1) according to claim 1, characterised in that the casings (6, 7) have a thickness between 15 and 30 mm.
  3. Cylinder block (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that a first set of casings (6, 7) extends over at least two thirds of the length of the longitudinal face.
  4. Cylinder block (1) according to claim 3, characterised in that a first set of casings (6, 7) extends over at least three quarters the length of the longitudinal face.
  5. Cylinder block (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the height of a first set of casings (6, 7) is between 3 and 20 % of the height of a longitudinal face.
  6. Cylinder block (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that a first set of casings (7) is arranged at the transition between the upper (2) and lower (5) portions of the cylinder block (1).
  7. Cylinder block (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that a first set of casings (6) is arranged at the mid-height of the lower portion (5) of the cylinder block (1).
  8. Cylinder block (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that a further set of casings (8) is arranged at the mid-height of the upper portion (2) of the cylinder block (1).
  9. Internal combustion engine, characterised in that it comprises a cylinder block (1) according to any one of the preceding claims.
