Description

DEVICE FOR FIXING A GUTTER TO A BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
The invention relates to a device for fixing a gutter to a building construction, which device comprises a support for bearing the gutter, optionally together with at least one other such support, wherein these at least two supports bear the gutter with mutual distance. Such a device is known. Use is normally made of a metal strip, a bearing part of which is modelled in accordance with the outer form of the gutter for bearing thereof, while a protruding part present on this support bracket is embodied such that it can be fixed to the building construction.
It is an object of the invention to embody a device for hanging a gutter such that the device can be used in very universal manner and the gutter can be positioned such that it can fulfill its function optimally in the local conditions.
It is thus an additional object of the invention to embody a device of the stated type such that a gutter can be disposed at an angle of inclination to be chosen freely and can be placed, within certain limits, at a desired height even in the case where the device must be fixed to for instance a sloping roof surface, for instance a roof consisting of corrugated sheet.
In respect of the above stated objectives, the device according to the invention is characterized by a fixing member to be arranged fixedly on the building construction; a supporting arm which is pivotable relative to this fixing member in a plane substantially transversely of the longitudinal direction of the gutter, and lockable in a chosen pivoted position by means of first locking means; and a support bracket slidable in longitudinal direction over this supporting arm and lockable in a chosen longitudinal position by means of second locking means. The device can advantageously have the feature that the first locking means comprise: a first toothed ring present on the fixing member; a second toothed ring which is present on this supporting arm and which has a form complementary to the first toothed ring and can thus be brought into mutually engaging co-action therewith such that relative rotation is blocked.
According to another aspect of the invention, the device according to the invention can have the feature that one of the fixing member and the supporting arm has a round through-hole and the other comprises: a first set of resilient first lips which are relatively long and have relatively little bending stiffness and which each have on their free end an outward directed, barb-like first protrusion such that the first lips can be inserted into the hole and the first protrusions can serve for temporary locking, wherein the toothed rings do not yet engage in each other; and a second set of second lips which are relatively short and have relative bending stiffness and which each have on their free end an outward directed, barb-like second protrusion such that the second lips, after the fixing member and the supporting arm have been placed in the desired relative angular position, following engaging of the first lips, can be inserted into the hole by means of a continuing displacement and the second protrusions can serve for the definitive locking. It is noted here that "definitive locking" is understood to mean a locking in a chosen position. Depending on the form of the barb-like second protrusions, the definitive locking can be released by exerting a sufficiently great, outward directed force or by moving the ends of the lips toward each other manually or using a tool with elastic deformation of the lips.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the device according to the invention can have the feature that the second locking means comprise: a first gear rack present on the supporting arm and extending in longitudinal direction thereof; and at least one first support tooth present on the support bracket and adapted to engage the teeth of the first gear rack, which tooth can support on a tooth of the gear rack corresponding with a chosen position and can thus support the support bracket, wherein the support bracket supported by the supporting arm is blocked against tilting, under the influence of its own weight and the weight of a gutter supported by the support bracket, by a pressure surface which presses against the side of the supporting arm remote from the gear rack at a lower height than said support tooth; wherein said blocking can be released by moving the pressure surface away from the supporting arm and moving the support tooth away from the relevant tooth of the gear rack.
This latter embodiment preferably has the special feature that the blocking can be secured by a lock which is present on the support bracket and which can be brought into a locking position, wherein the pressure surface can only be released from engagement with the supporting arm after the lock has been removed from the locking position. Unintended release of the support bracket from the supporting arm is hereby precluded.
The embodiment as according to the above described second aspect of the invention is preferably given a form such that the support bracket has two first supporting teeth which lie substantially symmetrically relative to the median plane of the support bracket and which together engage on one relevant tooth of the first gear rack.
According to yet another aspect of the invention, the device according to the invention has the feature that the second locking means further comprise: a second gear rack which is present on the supporting arm and extends in longitudinal direction thereof, and which is situated on the other side relative to the first gear rack; and at least one second support tooth which is present on the support bracket and adapted to engage the teeth of the second gear rack, and which can support on a tooth of the second gear rack corresponding with a chosen position and can thus support the support bracket.
This latter embodiment can advantageously have the special feature that the support bracket has two second supporting teeth which lie substantially symmetrically relative to the median plane of the support bracket and which together engage on one relevant tooth of the second gear rack.
The invention will now be elucidated with reference to the annexed drawings. In the drawings:
Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a fixing member;
Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the fixing member from a different angle of view;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a part of a roof element in the form of corrugated sheet, on which the fixing member according to Fig. 1 and 2 can be mounted;
Fig. 4 shows on an enlarged scale a part of the fixing member in the position of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of the supporting arm;
Fig. 6 shows a perspective view of the support bracket; and
Fig. 7 shows a perspective view of that part of the support bracket according to Fig. 6 adapted for co- action with the supporting arm.
Corresponding elements are designated in all the figures with the same reference numerals.
The three components of the device according to the invention, i.e. fixing member 1, supporting arm 2 and support bracket 3, are each monolithic or embodied integrally in plastic. In view of the conditions of use of the device according to the invention, this plastic must of course have sufficient mechanical strength and rigidity, and also be weather-resistant. The plastic must thus be resistant to temperature changes and be sufficiently resistant to ultraviolet.
