Description

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Hochdruckentladungslampe gemäß des Oberbegriffs des Patentanspruchs 1.The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

I. Stand der Technik I. State of the art

Such a high-pressure discharge lamp is for example in the published patent application EP 0 786 791 A1 described. This publication discloses a single-ended high-pressure discharge lamp for a motor vehicle headlight. The high-pressure discharge lamp has a discharge vessel made of quartz glass, which is sealed at two diametrically arranged ends by means of a respective molybdenum foil. The molybdenum foils are each connected to an electrode, which protrude into the interior of the discharge vessel. High-pressure discharge lamps for motor vehicle headlamps are usually designed as metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps with an electrical power consumption of less than 100 watts, the ionizable filling of which contains halides of sodium and scandium in addition to xenon.

The US 2003/178940 A1 discloses a metal halide high pressure discharge lamp for automobile headlamps comprising a pair of tungsten electrodes and metal halide as a major component of the illuminant and xenon as a buffer, wherein the tungsten electrodes contain not more than 0.4 weight percent thoria and the metal halide comprises scandium iodide.

In the abovementioned high-pressure discharge lamps, the molybdenum foils embedded in the sealed ends of the discharge vessel are subjected to a high thermal load during lamp operation, which in the discharge-side molybdenum foil region connected to the electrode leads to a detachment of the molybdenum foil from the quartz glass and to cracks in the glass and thus to an early start Failure of the lamp can result. This problem occurs in particular in mercury-free metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps whose molybdenum foils are exposed to an even greater thermal load due to the comparatively higher lamp current and the comparatively thicker electrodes than the molybdenum foils of the conventional mercury-containing metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps.

II. Darstellung der Erfindung II. Presentation of the invention

It is the object of the invention to provide a generic high-pressure discharge lamp whose Molybdänfolieneinbettungen are exposed during operation of the lamp of a lower thermal load to achieve an extension of their life, especially in mercury-free metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps.

This object is achieved by the features of claim 1. Particularly advantageous embodiments of the invention are described in the dependent claims.

The high-pressure discharge lamp according to the invention for vehicle headlights with a power consumption of less than 100 watts has a discharge vessel made of quartz glass, which has two mutually opposite, sealed by molybdenum foils ends, wherein in the interior of the discharge vessel, two electrodes, which are each connected to one of the molybdenum foils, and a xenon As well as halides of sodium and scandium containing, ionizable filling are arranged to generate a gas discharge, and is characterized in that the smallest distance of the respective molybdenum foil to the projecting into the interior of the discharge vessel end of the electrode connected to it is more than 5 mm. Thereby, the thermal load of the molybdenum foil portion connected to the electrode is reduced sufficiently to reduce the problem described above. In particular, in mercury-free metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps according to the preferred embodiment of the invention could at a distance of 6.2 mm ± 0.15 mm between the discharge space facing edge of the molybdenum foil and projecting into the discharge space end of the electrode connected to the molybdenum foil the Thermal stress of the discharge end of the molybdenum foils is reduced by about 15%, thereby extending the life of the lamps by about 50%.

Besonders vorteilhaft kann die Erfindung auf Hochdruckentladungslampen angewandt werden, deren Elektroden während des Lampenbetriebs aufgrund ihrer Abmessungen einen vergleichsweise hohen Wärmeübertrag auf die Molybdänfolien verursachen, wie beispielsweise quecksilberfreie Halogen-Metalldampf-Hochdruckentladungslampen, deren Elektroden eine vergleichsweise große Dicke bzw. einen vergleichsweise großen Durchmesser im Bereich von 0,30 mm bis 0,45 mm.Particularly advantageous, the invention can be applied to high-pressure discharge lamps whose electrodes during lamp operation due to their dimensions cause a relatively high heat transfer to the molybdenum foils, such as mercury-free metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps whose electrodes have a comparatively large thickness or a relatively large diameter in the range of 0.30 mm to 0.45 mm.

So that not too much of the ionizable filling is lost by diffusion into the cavities between the electrodes and the quartz glass of the sealed ends of the discharge vessel because of the comparatively long electrodes of the high-pressure discharge lamps according to the invention for the gas discharge between the two electrodes in the interior of the discharge vessel and around the To minimize the risk of cracks in the quartz glass caused by the thermal expansion of the electrode sections enclosed by the quartz glass of the sealed ends, the smallest distance of the molybdenum foil in the case of mercury-free metal halide high-pressure discharge lamps is preferably to the end of the electrode connected to it protruding into the interior of the discharge vessel at most 8 mm.

The preferred embodiment of the invention is a mercury-free metal halide high pressure discharge lamp having an electrical power consumption of about 35 watts. This lamp is intended for use in a vehicle headlight. It has a two-sided sealed discharge vessel 30 made of quartz glass with a volume of 24 mm 3 , in which an ionizable filling is enclosed gas-tight. In the area of the discharge space 106, the inner contour of the discharge vessel 30 is circular-cylindrical and its outer contour is ellipsoidal. The inner diameter of the discharge space 106 is 2.6 mm and its outer diameter is 6.3 mm. The two ends 101, 102 of the discharge vessel 10 are each sealed by means of a molten or crushed molybdenum foil 103, 104 therein. The molybdenum foils 103, 104 each have a length of 6.5 mm, a width of 2 mm and a thickness of 25 microns. In the interior of the discharge vessel 10 are two electrodes 11, 12, between which forms during the lamp operation responsible for the light emission discharge arc. The electrodes 11, 12 are made of tungsten. Their thickness or their diameter is 0.30 mm. The length of the electrodes 11, 12 is 7.5 mm in each case. The distance between the electrodes 11, 12 is 4.1 mm. The electrodes 11, 12 are in each case electrically conductively connected to one of the molybdenum foils 103, 104 and via the base-remote power supply 13 or via the base-side current return 14 to an electrical connection of the lamp base 15 which consists essentially of plastic. The overlap B between the electrode 11 and the molybdenum foil 103 bonded thereto is 1.3 mm ± 0.15 mm. The smallest distance A of the molybdenum foil 103 to the end of the electrode 11 protruding into the interior of the discharge vessel 10 is 6.2 mm ± 0.15 mm. That is, the distance of the molybdenum foil 11 to the discharge arc forming in the discharge vessel 10 during lamp operation is 6.2 mm ± 0.15 mm. Similarly, the smallest distance of the molybdenum foil 104 to the protruding into the interior of the discharge vessel 10 end of the electrode 12 is also 6.2 mm ± 0.15 mm, because the discharge vessel 10 with the electrodes 11, 12 and the sealed ends 101, 102nd is formed substantially mirror-symmetrical to a plane passing through the discharge vessel center and oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the discharge vessel 10 mirror axis. With the distance of 6.2 mm between the discharge-side edge of the molybdenum foil 103 and 104 and in the interior 106 of the discharge vessel 10 projecting end of the electrode 11 and 12, the maximum temperature load on the molybdenum foils 103, 104 could be less than 475 ° C be limited. The discharge vessel 10 is surrounded by an outer bulb 16, the Quartz glass or tempered glass. The quartz glass or hard glass of the outer bulb 16 is provided with the usual UV-absorbing additives. The outer bulb 16 has an extension 161 anchored in the base 15. The outer diameter of the outer bulb 16 is 9 mm and its wall thickness is 0.9 mm. The discharge vessel 10 has a tube-like extension 105 made of quartz glass on the base side, in which the socket-side power supply 14 extends. The electrodes 11, 12, the molybdenum foils 103, 104 and / or power supply lines 13, 14 may be coated with ruthenium in the region of the sealed ends 101, 102 of the discharge vessel 10.
