Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to aluminum bulletproof window, door fittings and curtain walls.
- The present invention more particularly relates to bulletproof window, door fittings, and curtain walls, consisting of the so-called 7xxx and 6xxx aluminum alloy profiles subjected to anodic oxidation surface treatment, in accordance with the preface of
Claim 1. - The so-called 7xxx series aluminum alloys employed in aerospace and aeronautic industries are preferred based on their high strength and high fullness characteristics. When the interactions between a bullet and the target material are investigated in relation to armed offences, the use of high strength and fullness characteristics necessitated special geometrical cross-sections in order to the exceed producibility criteria.
- In bulletproof (window-door) fitting applications, 6xxx series aluminum alloys have generally been employed without a stiff eloxal surface treatment being performed. Therefore the armor thickness had to be embodied with around a thickness of 30 mm in order to provide protection against 7.62 x 51 rifling guns. A high armor thickness causes transportation difficulties and imposes an extra load to the relevant building of application, due to the heavy weight of said armor.
- Regarding the background art, in aluminum bulletproof window and door fittings, and in curtain wall embodiments are generally employed filled (i.e. solid, with a filled interior) armor profiles, which are positioned on the exterior of such embodiments. The reason to produce said armored profiles with a filled or solid interior is to avoid a bullet form penetrating there into. Whilst varying according to a type of an offence, and instead of producing the interior of such armored profiles in a filled or solid manner, steel plates can be provided in the interior of hollow armored profiles.
- Armored profiles are fastened to windows/door fittings by means of welding, screwing, riveting or adhering. Such fastening of armored profiles and fittings increases the production costs. The manufacturing of armored profiles with filled/solid interiors, on the other hand, raises the material costs.
- Likewise, the workmanship required for placing in certain angles said steel plates in the interior of hollow armored profiles, increases the production costs. In addition, when such steel plates are cut in a straight manner at the corner unions of such fittings, weak points are formed thereat. Moreover, the cutting operation of the reinforcing steel plates in proper angles in line with such corner unions, raises the workmanship costs.
- Concerning another application, in window/door fitting types manufactured with the use of armored profiles on their exteriors, channels are opened on the armored profiles for the connection elements, called corner guards, employed in joining the corners. Said channel opening operation leads to a further increase in the production costs.
- In a further known application, armored profiles manufactured with a thickness of 15 to 20 mm are used against probable armed offences. In joining said armored profiles with window-door fittings, engaging- or screwing-based methods are being employed.
- Nevertheless, in heat insulated systems, a further profile is positioned between armored profiles and such window/door fittings. Such profile positioned for heat insulation purposes and the technique employed in joining it to armored profiles, raise the production costs.
- The patent application
GB2020720 published on 21/11/1997 - Therefore, against probable offences with 357 Magnum and 44 Remington magnum guns, the armored profile thickness has to be maintained at 15 to 20 mm. The necessity to keep the armored profile thickness at 15 to 20 mm causes to a troublesome transportation and imposes an extra load for the relevant building of application, due to its heavy weight. Also the armored profiles and window-door fittings are fastened to each other by means of adhering. Such profiles detach from each other as such adhesives become worn with external factors.
- Under the light of the foregoing information, the objective of the present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks in currently-used bulletproof window, door fittings, and curtain walls, by means of a device developed for such purposes.
- Another objective of the present invention is to provide bulletproof window, door fittings, and curtain walls having a lighter weight as compared to currently-used embodiments.
- A further objective of the present invention is to reduce the load imposed on buildings by making use of relatively low-weight curtain walls.
- Yet a further objective of the present invention is to make such windows/doors and curtain walls weighing lighter as compared to currently-employed embodiments, by making use of armored profiles made of so-called 7xxx and 6xxx series aluminum alloys.
- In order to achieve said objectives, a window-door and curtain wall arrangement is developed with the purpose of bringing about a bulletproof structure for protecting closed places (e.g. indoors) against armed offences, said arrangement comprising armored frame profile, armored vent profile, armored central guide profile, fitting profiles coupled to armored profiles in order to provide a body for this embodiment, and said armored profiles being made of the so-called 7xxx and 6xxx series aluminum alloy materials and subjected to a stiff eloxal surface treatment.
- In order to achieve aforesaid objectives, the connection between the armored profiles and fitting profiles is ensured by a geometrically-shaped brace.
- In order to achieve aforesaid objectives, at least one absorption means or element is positioned in the gap between the frame and vent with the purpose of preventing a bullet from passing through said gap.
- In order to achieve aforesaid objectives, at least one thermal break is connected with one of its ends to the armored profile and with the other to the fitting profile with the purpose of providing said geometrically-shaped brace between said armored profiles and fitting profiles.
- In order to achieve aforesaid objectives, at least one joint element is positioned on the armored central guide profile with the purpose of providing the assembly of said armored central guide profile to frame profiles.
- In order to achieve aforesaid objectives, at least one Frame-wall joint profile is positioned on the frame-wall union site with the purpose of preventing a bullet from passing through said site, where said frame and wall join.
- In order to achieve aforesaid objectives, at least one extra Frame-wall joint profile is positioned on the frame-wall union site with the purpose of preventing a bullet from passing through said site, where said frame and wall join.
- In order to achieve aforesaid objectives, at least one Vent -glazing retainer is embodied that fastens the vent glazing with the purpose of preventing the Bulletproof glass from becoming displaced or unsettled with the impact of a bullet.
- In order to achieve aforesaid objectives, (at least one) frame-vent union angle-iron(s) is/are connected to the frame and armored profile with the purpose of providing a leveled form to the corner unions, when the frame made from frame profiles and armored profiles is viewed from outside.
- Figure 1 illustrates the cross-section of a frame-vent embodiment of bulletproof window/door fitting and curtain wall arrangements according to a representative application of the present invention.

- Figure 1 illustrates the cross-section of a frame-vent embodiment of bulletproof window/door fitting and curtain wall arrangements according to the present invention. In such arrangements, the frame profile (4) is connected to the armored frame profile (1) by means of the geometrical brace of the thermal break (16).
- The armored frame profile (1) is connected to the frame by means of the frame-wall joint profile (13) and the frame-wall extra joint profile (14). The armored frame profile (1) is connected to the silicon (22) on the frame by means of the T cover profile (23). The frame profile (4) is connected to the blind frame profile (17) positioned onto the frame by means of a connection element.
- One end of the frame profile (4) is connected to the frame via said silicon (22). The frame-wall joint profiles (13, 14) are connected to the blind frame profile (17) by means of a connection element. The vent profile (5) is connected to the frame profile (4) by positioning the stop gasket (19) and central gasket (18).
- The armored vent profile (2) is connected to the vent profile (5) by means of the thermal break (16). An absorption element (15) is positioned with the purpose of preventing a bullet from passing into the interior through the operation gap between the frame and vent. The vent -glazing bead profile (9) is connected to said vent profile (9).
- A Bulletproof glass (24) is positioned between the armored vent profile (2) and vent - glazing bead profile (9). In order to fix said glazing (24), an inner glazing gasket (20) is positioned between the vent -glazing bead profile (9) and the glazing (24), whereas an outer glazing gasket (21) is provided between the armored vent profile (2) and the glazing (24).
- At least one frame-vent union angle-iron (1) is connected to the frame and armored profile (1, 2, 3) with the purpose of providing a leveled form to the corner unions, when the frame made from frame profiles (4) and armored profiles (1, 2, 3) is viewed from outside. The assembly of armored central guide profile (3) to frame profiles is made with the central guide joint element (12).
- Figure 2 illustrates the cross-section of a vent-central mullion embodiment of bulletproof window/door fitting and curtain wall arrangements according to the present invention. In such arrangements, the central mullion is connected to the frame by means of the geometrical brace of the stop gasket (19) and central gasket (18).
- The armored central guide profile (3) is connected to the central guide profile (6) by means of the thermal break (16). The bulletproof glass (24) is embodied between the armored central guide profile (3) and fixed glazing bead profile (10) connected to the central guide profile (6) by means of the inner and outer glazing gaskets (20, 21).
- Figure 3 illustrates the cross-section of a frame-wall union of bulletproof window/door fitting and curtain wall arrangements according to the present invention. In such arrangements, the frame is connected to the wall by means of the blind frame profile (17), frame-wall joint profile and the extra profile thereof (13, 14), and the silicon (22) element.
- The armored profiles (1, 2, 3) employed in such arrangements are manufactured from so-called 7xxx and 6xxx series aluminum alloy materials in extrusion presses. Such armored profiles (1, 2, 3) are subjected to a stiff eloxal surface treatment in order to enhance the bulletproofing characteristic.
- Essentially the so-called 7xxx series aluminum alloy comprises 4,5 to 7,6% Zn, 1,4 to 2,9% Mg, and 1,2 to 2,3% Cu.
- Essentially the so-called 6xxx series aluminum alloy comprises 0,2 to 0,6% Si, 0,45 to 0,9% Mg, and 0,1 to 0,35% Fe.
Claims (10)
- A bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement providing a bulletproof structure for protecting closed places (e.g. indoors) against armed offences, said arrangement comprising armored frame profile (1); armored vent profile (2); armored central guide profile (3); and fitting profiles (4, 5, 6) connected to said armored profiles (1, 2, 3) in order to provide a body for this embodiment; characterized in that- said armored profiles (1, 2, 3) are subjected to a hard anodizing surface treatment; and- the connection between said armored profiles (1, 2, 3) and fitting profiles (4, 5, 6) are made with a geometrically-shaped brace.
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one absorption element (15) is comprised that is positioned in the gap between the frame and vent with the purpose of preventing a bullet perforation from said gap.
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one thermal break (16) is comprised that is connected with one of its ends to the armored profile (1, 2, 3) and with the other end to the fitting profile with the purpose of providing a geometrically-shaped brace between said armored profiles (1, 2, 3) and fitting profiles (4, 5, 6).
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one joint element (12) is comprised that is positioned on the armored central guide profile with the purpose of providing the assembly of said armored central guide profile to frame profiles.
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one frame-wall joint profile (13) is comprised that is positioned on the frame-wall joint site with the purpose of preventing a bullet perforation from said site, where said frame and wall become united.
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one extra frame-wall joint profile (14) is comprised that is positioned on the frame-wall joint site with the purpose of preventing a bullet perforation from said site, where said frame and wall become united.
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one vent -glazing retainer (7) is comprised that is embodied to retain or fasten the vent glass with the purpose of preventing the bulletproof glass from becoming displaced or unsettled with the impact of a bullet.
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one fixed glazing retainer (8) is comprised that is embodied to retain or fasten the fixed glass with the purpose of preventing the bulletproof glass from becoming displaced or unsettled with the impact of a bullet.
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that at least one mitre joint angles (11) is comprised that is connected to the frame and armored profile (1, 2, 3) with the purpose of providing a leveled form to the corner unions, when the frame made from the frame profile (4) and armored profiles (1, 2, 3) is viewed from outside.
- An aluminum alloy-bulletproof window-door and curtain wall arrangement according to Claim 1, characterized in that- the material of said armored profile (1, 2, 3) contains the so-called 7xxx series aluminum alloy comprising 4,5 to 7,6% Zn, 1,4 to 2,9% Mg, and 1,2 to 2,3% Cu; and- the material of said armored profile (1, 2, 3) contains the so-called 6xxx series aluminum alloy comprising 0,2 to 0,6% Si, 0,45 to 0,9% Mg, and 0,1 to 0,35% Fe.
