Abstract

A lighting apparatus is described comprising a power supply body (2) connected to a reflector (3), in which a lamp is accommodated, which supports a refractor (4), inferiorly closed by a lid (9) at least partially transparent to light, by means of a socket-type connection obtained by interference between a wider lower end (5) of the reflector (3) and a narrower upper end (6) of the refractor (4). Said apparatus further comprises a seal (7) interposed between the reflector (3) and the refractor (4) where they interfere.

Description

  • The present invention relates to a lighting apparatus with a seal arranged between reflector and refractor.
  • Lighting apparatuses, preferably for lighting large surfaces, comprising a power supply body connected to a lamp housed in a reflector which supports a refractor inferiorly closed by a cover at least partially transparent to light, are known.
  • The reflector-refractor coupling, along with the lower refraction lens, allows to optimise the light produced by the lamp; in particular, the refraction capacity of the lower lens allows to better exploit the "most" vertical light rays, i.e. those which do not encounter the surface of the reflector.
  • The horizontal surface lighted "on ground level" (working surface) can be increased by constructively imposing a high refraction index.
  • Furthermore, the reflector-retractor combination allows to increase the level of lighting on the working surface thus considerably reducing dazzling.
  • This type of apparatus is widely used in industrial sheds, in food warehouses and, in general, in large environments where considerable amounts of dust or hazardous liquid residues in suspension are present.
  • Severe fire prevention standards exist which impose the manufacturer of the aforesaid type of apparatus to maintain the internal part of the lamp where the electrical connections for powering the lamp itself are present well insulated.
  • The reflector-refractor coupling may be made by interference between the widest lower end of the reflector and the narrower upper end of the refractor. Said coupling is further ensured by a plurality of screw/nut screw connections in the aforesaid interference zone between reflector and refractor.
  • The nature of the reflector-refractor coupling does not ensure the absence of infiltrations of hazardous particles which can react with the internal electrical contacts causing fires.
  • It is the object of the present invention to make a lighting apparatus with reflector and refractor coupled so as to avoid the infiltration of hazardous or however undesired substances inside the apparatus where there are the electrical power contacts of the lamp.
  • According to the invention, such object is reached by a lighting apparatus comprising a power supply body connected to a reflector, in which a lamp is housed, which supports a refractor inferiorly closed by a lid at least partially transparent to light, by means of a socket-type connection obtained by interference between a wider lower end of the reflector and a narrower upper end of the refractor, characterised in that it further comprises a seal arranged between the reflector and the refractor where they interfere.
  • The seal is very easy to assemble thus minimising the waste of time during the assembly step of the apparatus.
  • These and other features of the present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description of a practical embodiment thereof shown by way of non-limitative example in the attached drawings, in which:
    • figure 1 shows a partially sectioned front view of an apparatus according to the present invention;
    • figure 2 shows a portion on magnified scale of the apparatus in figure 1;
    • figure 3 shows the same portion of figure 2 in a disassembled condition;
    • figure 4 shows a partially sectioned frontal view of the disassembled apparatus.
  • A lighting apparatus 1 comprises a power supply body 2 connected to a semi-reflector 3, in which a lamp (not shown) is housed.
  • The body 2 contains electrical components (not shown) for powering the lamp.
  • Said semi-reflector 3 supports a refractor 4 by means of a socket-type connection system obtained by interference between a wider lower end 5 of the semi-reflector 3 and a narrower upper end 6 of the refractor 4.
  • A seal 7 is interposed between the semi-reflector 3 and the refractor 4 where an internal protrusion 16 of the upper end 6 of the refractor 4 overlaps and rests on an external protrusion 17 of the lower end 5 of the semi-reflector 3 (figure 2).
  • Screw/nut screw connections 8 ensure the connection between the semi-reflector 3 and the refractor 4 with an appropriate compression of the seal 7.
  • A lid 9 provided with a refraction lens 15 inferiorly closes the refractor 4 by means of fastening means 10 comprising a further seal 11.
  • The assembly of the apparatus 1 is very simple (figures 3-4).
  • Firstly, the seal 7 is positioned at the lower end 5 of the semi-reflector 3 to which the power supply body 2 is connected; then, the refractor 4 is moved downwards making the semi-reflector 3 pass through the internal cavity of the refractor 4 until the upper end 6 of the refractor 4 interferes with the lower end 5 of the semi-reflector 3.
  • Finally, the screw/nut screw connections 10 are tightened and the refractor 4 is inferiorly closed by means of the lid 9 with refraction lens 15.
  • The apparatus is ready to be used without the risk of infiltration of hazardous or however undesired particles which may interact with the electrical connections causing fires.
