' 1 claim. (01240-78) The present invention relates broadly lto. the
art of illumination and more especially to a light-y above the fixture.`
In the preferred form, the device comprises a supportingmember for an electric incandescent light and wherein the incandescent light is enclosed within a reflecting dome preferably of metal and preferably having an aluminum satin or sand blasted surface. This reflecting memb er is adapted to carry a diffusion translucent or transparent globe through light and also the direct light'from the incandescent lamp maypass. The globe is provided with a bead or shoulder or other positioning device to support and position a' ring-like reflector to throw a portion of the light upwardly. This reflector is supported on the` diffusion globe part way down on the globe so as to provide an annular zone through which light rays may pass to strike i the inner surface of the reflector and be directed upwardly. This reflector preferably comprises a metallic ring and may be provided with a curved surface of such form as to diffuse the lightstriking the surface, whereby this annular ring reflects the light upwardly over a large area.
The fixture is of such construction as to substantially enclose the electric light in a dustproof chamber and any dust that may collect between the ring reflector and the globe may be easily removed by simply lifting the reflector ring` from its seat on the terior of the globe.v
Fig. 1 illustrates a cross-section through appreferred form of the invention.
Fig. 2 shows an elevational view ofv the device shown in section in Fig. 1.
The device comprises primarily a supporting member 1 whichv carries a dome-like reflector 2. -This reflector may comprise a single piece of material as is shown in my Patent No. 1,939,956 or globe and cleaning the exe may be supported by a small cup-like member 4V as I have specifically illustrated herewith. This reflector preferably is provided with an inner surface of satin finish or sand blasted aluminum so amount of the light upwhich the reflected as to produce a brilliant diffusion-effect. An electric light socket 5 is sup# vvported' within vtheupperportion of the dome member and carries an electric lamp 6. This lamp is fed by suitable circuit connections such as the electric wires '7.
The lower edge lof the vided'with a flange 11 adapted to carry lclamp screws 12 which engage an inturned rim 14 on a diffusion globe 15. This diffusion globe l5 is preferably provided with a bead or shoulder 16 upon which an annular ring reflector 17 is adapted to be seatecL This ring reflector, in its preferred form, comprises a metallic ner surface 18 of sand blasted or satin aluminum finish so as to provider a brilliant reflector for all light striking the reflector ring. This ring sets `loosely On the bead 16 so that the matter of eX- pansion and contraction due to the heat of the lamp or otherwise doesnot seriously affect the relation of the parts.' This reflector preferably is provided with a wire edge or rolled rim 19 in order to stiffen the edge the reflector is of a double curvature, so that the light rays striking the reflector surface 18 are reflected over a relatively large area.
reflector with a .soft
dome reflector 2 is pro-` member having an inof the samev and preferably` `The main effect of the fixture is to direct a cone of intense light rays downwardly and to direct fused light in an'upward direction.` Y
The present invention may be .used for most a very difindoor lighting and is particularly effective for store lighting, wherein a soft glow is provided at the ceiling with themajorityof the intense light ,directed downwardly upon the goods on counters.
What I claim is:
A lighting fixture comprising in combination a suspension member, a reflecting dome supported byV said suspension member, a receptacle for an electric light mounted within said reflecting dome and adapted to support an electric light within said dome, a translucent diffusion globe carried by said reflecting dome, said globehaving an outwardly flared portion extending away from the lower edge of said dome, a supporting ledge on said diffusion globe `and adjacent the lower extremity of said outwardly flared portion, said supporting ledge being spaced from said reflecting dome to provide an annular zone between said dome and said supporting ledge on saiddiffusion globe for transmissionof light rays, and an annular ring reflecting member extending outwardly and upwardly from said diffusion globe and resting on said supporting ledge, and adapted to reflect in an upward direction, light rays transmitted through said annular Zone of the diffusion globe, said ledge comprising the sole support for said reflector. p
