Definitions
- An object of the present invention is therefore to provide an intraocular implant with flexible optics which comprises a haptic part which can be easily folded by the injector without significant risk of rupture.
- Another object of the invention is to provide an intraocular implant which moreover comprises a haptic part such that during the positioning of the implant in the capsular bag the posterior diopter of the optical part is effectively applied against the posterior part of the capsular bag.
- a third object of the invention is to provide an intraocular implant, the haptic part of which prevents the formation of folds in the capsular bag.
- the implant can be easily folded using the implant injector.
- these effectively tend to press the posterior diopter of the optical part of the implant against the posterior wall of the capsular bag.
- the haptic handles are made of sulfonated polyether. This material allows easy realization of the handles attached to the optical part.
- FIG. 1A is a front view of the intraocular implant according to the invention
- - Figure 1B is a side view of the implant of Figure 1A
- - Figure 2 is a detail view showing the peripheral edge of the optical part
- - Figure 3 illustrates the placement of the intraocular implant in the capsular bag
- - Figure 4 illustrates the anti-halo effect of the embodiment of Figure 2.
- the implant is constituted by an optical part 10 of substantially circular shape having a peripheral edge 12, an anterior diopter 14 and a posterior diopter 16.
- the optical part is made of a so-called flexible material.
- the haptic part of the implant consists of two haptic loops 18 and 20 which are arranged symmetrically with respect to the optical center O of the optical part 10.
- the optical loops 18 and 20 are made of a material separate from PMMA and biocompatible.
- the material constituting the optical handles is preferably a polyethersulfonated, a polyimide or a polyvinylidene fluoride. These materials are easily foldable using the implant injector and they have a high biocompatibility with the tissues constituting the eye.
- the handles 18 and 20 which are identical consist of a wire of the material described above having a substantially constant diameter of the order of 125 microns.
- the diameter of the optical part is equal to 6 mm and the external diameter of the implant, at rest, of 13 mm.
- One end of each handle referenced 22 is inserted into a recess in the optical part.
- This part 22 of each loop constitutes a connection portion or end.
- the handle is extended by a middle portion 24 which is substantially rectilinear. It ends with a contact part 26 which has a free end 26a.
- the contact part 26 has a regular curvature. A portion of the contact part 26b is intended to come into effective contact with the equatorial diameter of the capsular bag.
- the rest of the contact part 26c is used for connection with the middle part 24 of the haptic loop.
- the apex angle O and the sides of which pass through the free end 26a of the handle and through the connection point 22a of the handle at the periphery of the optical part referenced is between 75 and 105 degrees and, preferably, the free ends 26a of the handles are substantially arranged on the tangents T and T at the periphery of the optical part parallel to the median parts of the handles so that the contact between the contact part 26 of the handle and the equatorial diameter of the capsular bag is achieved over a significant length in order to avoid accidental folding of the capsular bag.
- the handles 18 and 20 are not arranged in the optical plane PP of the optical part 10 of the implant.
- the middle part 24 of the loop makes a first angle a with the optical plane so that this portion projects towards the front of the optical part of the implant.
- the contact portion 26b of the contact part 26 forms an angle b with the middle part of the handle.
- the angles a and b are substantially equal so that the contact part 26b of the contact portion 26 is substantially parallel to the optical plane PP 'of the implant and in front of it.
- this double angulation which is for example between 7 and 13 degrees allows to apply the posterior diopter 16 of the optical part against the rear part of the capsular bag 30 as shown better in Figure 3. This ensures axial stability of the optical part of the implant.
- FIG. 1 a preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated in FIG.
- the peripheral edge 12 of the implant of the optical part 10 of the implant has a particular shape.
- the edge consists of a first substantially cylindrical portion 32 which forms an angle between 90 and 110 degrees with the periphery 16a of the posterior diopter 16.
- the edge of the optical part in its connection zone between the peripheral part and the posterior diopter constitutes substantially an edge whose application against the rear part of the capsular bag with sufficient pressure makes it possible to avoid or at least reduce the proliferation of parasitic cells on the posterior surface of the capsular bag.
- the peripheral edge 12 includes a second portion 34 in the form of a toric surface portion. This second portion 34 of the periphery of the optical part serves as connection with the periphery 14a of the anterior diopter 14 of the optical part of the implant.
- Figure 4 shows the effect of the toroidal surface-shaped part 34, to avoid the halo effect.
- the incident rays I which would have been reflected by the peripheral edge of a standard implant towards the retina are reflected by the toric surface 34 in the form of light rays R which are not directed towards the retina.
