Definitions
- the invention relates to a cold-formed fastening screw made of low-alloy carbon steel with a large degree of deformation in accordance with a ratio of outer diameter / core diameter> 1.2 and a ratio of pitch / outer diameter> 0.23 with self-tapping thread for screwing in, in particular in plastics.
- Such a fastening screw is shown and described, for example, in European Patent 948719.
- this screw is cold rolled, there is a large degree of deformation, according to the ratio of outer diameter / core diameter given in claim 1 of this patent specification from 1.2 to 1.4 and the ratio of pitch / outer diameter from 0.23 to 0.41.
- the ratio of outer diameter / core diameter is 1.25 to 1.65 and the ratio of pitch / outer diameter is 0.24 to 0.53.
- the material of this screw and its manufacturing process, namely cold rolling and tempering, is briefly mentioned in the European patent specification (see column 4, lines 39 to 49).
- German patent specification 27 54 870 discloses a fastening screw formed by cold rolling, in which there is also a high degree of deformation due to the ratio of outer diameter / core diameter of 1.85 and the ratio of pitch / outer diameter of 0.45.
- Cold rolling and carbon steel with a carbon content of up to 0.35 percent by weight are mentioned in the document about the manufacturing process of the screw.
- the screws after cold working are subjected to carbon nitriding to increase the carbon content on the surface of the screw (known application method) and then subjected to direct quenching and a tempering process.
- carbon nitriding to increase the carbon content on the surface of the screw (known application method)
- direct quenching and a tempering process On page 5, middle column, it is additionally explained with reference to Figure 4 that the insert-tempered screws have a higher risk of breakage than the screws tempered only to 10.9 quality.
- the tempering of the screws ie their heating, quenching and tempering, was and is the essential feature of the manufacturing process of such screws.
- the object of the invention is to improve the strength of the screws discussed at the outset and to simplify their manufacturing process. According to the invention, this is done by a screw material of a screw made of steel with a ferritic structure and other components with a carbon content that is substantially higher than the carbon contained in the ferrite, this mixed structure having a carbon content of max. 0.42 percent by weight and a maximum grain size corresponding to at least 2000 grains / mm, preferably at least 3000 grains / mm, with internal stresses maintained by the cold rolling and maintained.
- the invention is based above all on the surprising finding that the internal stresses impressed in the screw material during cold rolling, which run axially in the screw, form an axial compressive internal stress (contraction stress), which is used when the screw screwed into a plastic material is loaded in order to be more dynamic Stress on the screw connection (vibrating stress) to increase the fatigue strength of the connection, since the residual compressive stress maintained runs in the opposite direction to the external tensile stresses that occur during operation.
- This effect of maintaining the impressed residual stresses or compressive residual stresses which has proven to be decisive for the special resistance of the screw according to the invention, results from the deliberate avoidance of subsequent tempering, i.e.
- parts of spherically molded cementite, lamellar pearlite, bainite or martensite can expediently be used either individually or in combination.
- the ratio of the carbon content in the ferritic structure and in the other constituents can advantageously be selected at about 1:10.
- the grain size of the grains plays an important role in that the effect of resistance formation due to the cold deformation is particularly great when the maximum grain size is below a value which is at least 2000 grains / mm, preferably at least 3000 grains mm 2 (DIN EN ISO 643, for USA ASTM E 112).
- the screw material can advantageously be further improved by admixtures with regard to its strength properties.
- the following options are available for adding admixtures to the screw material individually or in any combination. These are manganese in 0.6 to 2.0 percent by weight, silicon in a maximum of 1.2 percent by weight, chromium in a maximum of 2 percent by weight, molybdenum in a maximum of 1 percent by weight, vanadium in a maximum of 0.5 percent by weight, boron in a maximum of 0.008 percent by weight, Niobium in a maximum of 0.15 percent by weight and titanium in a maximum of 0.3 percent by weight.

Description
Schriftenreihe "EJOT FORUM 2, technische Aufsätze vom September 1990" enthalten.
