Abstract

The railway track superstructure is located on a base surface (12) and is inclined crossways to the track extent with ballast comprising individual stones (18). Sleepers (20) are embedded in the ballast and rails (24) are fixed to them. Beneath the sleepers the ballast has load absorption areas (26), which when there is train movement on the rails take up loads acting vertically on the ballast and on the base surface beneath the ballast. The hollow spaces between the ballast stones within the load absorption areas are filled with a foam material (28), particularly polyurethane and between the ballast and the base surface an elastic drainage layer (14) is arranged.
