Abstract

A liquid drop ejector comprising a plurality of ink jet heads (100) each having a diaphragm, an actuator for displacing the diaphragm, and a nozzle for ejecting liquid in a cavity increasing/decreasing through displacement of the diaphragm as a liquid drop, a circuit for driving the actuator, a means (182) for selecting a nozzle ejecting a liquid drop from among the plurality of ink jet heads (100), a means (10) for detecting residual oscillation of the diaphragm and detecting abnormal ejection of liquid drop based on the oscillation pattern of the detected residual oscillation, and a means (23) for switching connection with the actuator from the driving circuit to the abnormal ejection detecting means (10) after a liquid drop is ejected by driving the actuator.
