A device (2) for the handling of at least one tool (3) to be used in connection with a machine (1), especially a sealing tool (1) and especially for packaging machines (2), is suggested, whereby the device (2) comprises transfer means (21) adapted to horizontally transfer the tool (3) to or from the machine (1).

Description

The invention relates to a device for the handling of at least one tool to be used in connection with a machine, especially a sealing tool and especially for packaging machines.
For the production of a multitude of goods, for example packages, production machines, e.g. packaging machines, are equipped with tools, especially for providing a certain shape to the goods to be produced of for applying certain features to the products to be produced, for example seals in connection with containers destinated to protect liquid or dry food stuffs.
Such tools, especially sealing tools but also shaping tools as deep-draw tools have increasingly high length, width and height dimensions and therefore are increasingly heavy. Furthermore, the production processes carried out with such tools are increasingly vulnerable to small deviations of the exact dimensions these tools should have. Moreover, the handling of such tools, e.g. the exchange of a used tool for a new tool, has to be made time efficient and cost efficient as the production machine and possibly the whole production line where the machine is integrated in has to be stopped during the exchange process of the tool.
Known devices, e.g. for the exchange of tools, are applying forces to the tools (during the exchange process) at random and unpredictable locations. Such forces, e.g. for holding the tool, are able to generate small deviations in the shape of the tools (compared to the target shape of the tool). This can lead to malfunctions or early wear of the tool which is disadvantageous because the exchange intervalls of the tool are shorter. This leads to higher costs both for repairing or replacing the tool and for exchanging the tool (as the machine or even the production line have to be interrupted more often). Furthermore, the exchange of tools with known devices is time consuming and it is difficult to precisely predict the time needed to exchange the tools.
It is therefore the objective of the present invention to provide a device for the handling of such tools which has not the drawbacks of known devices described above.
The problem is solved with a device for the handling of at least one tool to be used in connection with a machine, especially a sealing tool and especially for packaging machines, whereby the device comprises transfer means adapted to horizontally transfer the tool to or from the machine. It was totally surprising and could not have been expected by a person skilled in the art that the inventive device allows the handling of tools avoiding the application of forces to the tools at unpredictable locations or points and that the inventive device allows the handling of tools in a more predictable manner, e.g. concerning the time needed to exchange a tool.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the device comprises positioning means adapted to position the device relative to the machine, the positioning means being located especially in an area between a footprint of the machine and a lower part of a frame of the machine and/or the positioning means are provided such that a positioning force is applied between the device and the machine, the positioning force being preferably applied at least partly in an upward direction and/or the positioning means are able to position the transfer means horizontally and/or, while being positioned relative to one another, the device and the machine contact each other in at least two points. These features have the advantage that the device and the machine can be completely and accurately positioned relative to one another.
Furthermore, it is preferred, that the device comprises turning means adapted to rotate the tool especially with regard to a horizontal turning axis. This makes it possible that tools are handled by the device that are to be connected to or integrated in the machine in different locations, e.g. upward tool and downward tool.
The invention relates also to a machine, especially a packaging machine, using at least one tool, especially a sealing tool, comprising loading means adapted to position the tool relative to the machine whereby the loading means are able to cooperate with the transfer means of an inventive device, the machine comprising preferably positioning elements being able to cooperate with the positioning means of the device. With such a machine, all the advantages of the inventive device can be fully employed.
The invention relates also to a combination of an inventive device with an inventive machine, whereby the positioning means are able to position the transfer means relative to the loading means such that the tool is able to be transferred horizontally to or from the machine.
Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for transferring a tool, especially a sealing tool, between a machine, especially a packaging machine, and a device or vice versa, whereby in a first step the device is positioned relative to the machine and in a second step the tool is transferred using transfer means of the device and loading means of the machine, the transfer means and the loading means being able to cooperate with each other. Such an inventive method can advantageously be applied to any kind of production line or production machine where tools need to be changed quickly and correctly.
Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of the figures which show, however, non-restricting examples of the present invention.
An example of the inventive combination of a device with a machine is depicted in an perspective view in figure 1 and comprises the machine 1, the device 2 and a tool 3. In figure 2, a lateral view of the example of the inventive combination is depicted comprising the machine 1 and the device 2.
In figures 3 and 4, schematic lateral views of the machine 1 and the device 2 are shown. The device 2 is movable to and from the machine 1; in figure 3, the device 2 is located in a certain distance from the machine 1 and in figure 4, the device 2 is positioned relative to the machine 1 in order to hand over or transfer the tool 3.
The inventive machine 1 comprises a frame 113 and a lower part 112 standing on the ground by means of footprints 111. The machine 1 furthermore comprises loading means 11 adapted to position the tool 3 relative to the machine 1.
The inventive device 2 comprises transfer means 21 adapted to horizontally transfer the tool to or from the machine and preferably positioning means 22 adapted to position the device 2 relative to the machine 1. The positioning means 22 are especially located in a lower part of the device 2 reaching preferably in a space between the lower part 112 of the machine 1 and the ground 4. For example, the positioning means 22 comprise a roller permitting the device 2 to be moved on the ground 4, the roller being mounted at one end of a moveable lever in order to permit an adjustment of the height of the device by means of changing the inclination of the lever. The device 2 further comprises rails 211 or another realisation of a transfer means 21 being able to transfer the tool 3 from the device 2 to the machine 1 and from the machine 1 to the device 2. The tool 3 comprises at least one transfer element 311 but preferably a multitude of transfer elements 311. By means of the transfer element(s) 311 the tool 3 can be moved in a direction almost horizontally on or along the transfer means 21, e.g. rails 211. The transfer element(s) can be e.g. vats or other sliding and/or rolling elements capable of interacting with the transfer means 21 of the device 2.
A transfer of the tool 3 from the machine 1 to the device 2 (or vice versa) is made as follows: In a first step, the device 2 is approached to the machine 1 such that the transfer means 21 are as much close to the loading means 11 as possible. Furthermore, the positioning means 22 are actuated such that the transfer means 21 and the loading means 11 are positioned to be able to effect a hand over or a transfer of the tool 3. Preferably, the transfer means 21 and the loading means 11 will be horizontally aligned to each other. Thereby, preferably a positioning force 221 is applied by the device 2 towards the machine 1 in at least partially an upward direction. In a second step - after positioning the device 2 relative to the machine 1 - the tool 3 is transferred, especially by horizontally moving the tool 3.
The positioning of the device 2 relative to the machine 1 is effected by means of contacting or by means of precisely positioning them in at least two contact points 115, 116, 117. In the example shown, two of the contact points, namely 115 and 116, are located at the front side of the machine 1 and one contact point, namely 117, is located at the rear side of the machine 1 viewed from the side accessible by the device 2. In this case, preferably the two contact points 115, 116 are positioned at a distance corresponding roughly to the width of the device 2 and the third contact point 117 is located approximately in the middle of the device 2.
An example of a detailed embodiment of such contact points 115, 116 is shown in figure 5. Preferably, the machine 1 comprises positioning elements 12, e.g. in the form of recesses, with which positioning means 22 sticking out of the device 2 are able to cooperate. By means of a movement along the arrow 222 in figure 5 the positioning means 22 sticking out of the device 2 are centred in the positioning elements 12 of the machine. Of course, every other cooperation of elements between the device 2 and the machine 1 is within the range of the invention, e.g. recesses in the device together with parts sticking out from the lower part of the machine 1.
Still preferably, the device 2 comprises turning means 23 being able to tum or to rotate a tool 3 carried on the device 2 about, e.g. a horizontal, turning axis 231.
