Abstract
Description
- The invention regards a cladding support comprising a first portion adapted for engagement with a cladding element, and a second portion having a first side adapted for engagement with a window frame element and a second side facing away from the frame element in the mounted state of the cladding support.
- Windows are commonly provided with cladding to weatherproof the ordinarily wooden construction of sash and frame. The cladding further improves the visual impression of the window construction by concealing the wooden construction, the hinges and the gap between the fixed frame and the moveable sash in the event of an openable window.
-
DE3844195 discloses a cladding support of the above construction e.g. cladding support with a portion engaging a cladding element and a portion engaging a window frame element, including the features according toclaim 1, first part. - In the last couple of years there has been an increasing demand for electrically operated accessories, such as blinds, shades, screens etc., which introduces some new difficulties with regard to wiring for the accessories, especially in the event of a centre hung window, as is common by roof windows.
- It is hence the object of the invention to provide a cladding support allowing wiring to pass.
- To fulfil the object the cladding support comprises at least one wire holding means provided at said second side and the first portion comprises a massive wall to limit or prevent a flow of air along the frame element in the mounted state. The wire holding means thus advantageously allows the wire to pass and further holds the wire, so that no separate wire holders are needed. An advantage of placing the wire on the side of the cladding support facing away from the window frame is that wiring is particularly easy, even in the mounted state of the cladding, as this side is accessible, and hence the cladding support provides that wiring when retrofitting electrical accessories is possible and timesaving.
- According to the invention, the first portion comprises a massive wall, to thereby limit or obstruct inflow or circulation of air behind the cladding.
- The cladding support may be mounted on the window frame by gluing or with means of fasteners like nails or screws, however according to an embodiment, said first side is provided with projecting legs to enable snap fit of the cladding support to the frame.
- In the following the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the drawing, in which:
-
Fig. 1 is a front view of a cladding support according to the invention, -
Fig. 2 is a side view of the cladding support inFig. 1 , and -
Fig. 3 is a schematic view of a cladding support in the mounted state. - An example of a
cladding support 1 can be seen inFig. 1 and 2 . Thecladding support 1 comprises afirst portion 2 adapted for engagement with a cladding element (not shown), which is to be fastened to a frame part of a window. Advantageously the cladding is to be supported at a distance from the frame part to allow a certain degree of ventilation for the ordinarily wooden construction and provide room for a pivot hinge to be concealed behind the cladding. Preferably thefirst portion 2 is adapted for sliding or snap fit engagement with the cladding, i.e. without need for tools and screws or other fastening means. Hereby the mounting of the cladding can be performed in a laboursaving way, and the potential risk of lack of tools and lack of fastening means is avoided. Thecladding support 1 further comprises asecond portion 3 having afirst side 4 adapted for engagement with a frame element (not shown). Saidfirst side 4 may be a flat surface, which may be fastened to a frame element by gluing, or this second portion may be provided with holes for introduction of fastening means, such as nails or screws. It is, however, preferred that thefirst side 4 is provided with projectinglegs 8 adapted to engage in predrilled holes in the frame element without the need for tools. Thesecond side 5 of thesecond portion 3 is provided with acutout 7 providing a wire holding means. The cladding support may comprise an additional wire holding means, such as a cutout 7a, at another position, e.g. substantially opposite to thecutout 7, as can be seen inFig. 2 . - A schematic view of the cladding support in a mounted state can be seen in
Fig. 3 . Here it is shown how the cladding 9 is supported by thecladding support 1. Thecladding support 1 is mounted to aframe element 10 in that thelegs 8 are introduced into holes in theframe element 10. Preferably thelegs 8 are provided with barbs (not shown) to prevent removal of thecladding support 1 from theframe element 10. - A wire 11, e.g. for some sort of electrical accessory, can be accommodated in the
cutout 7, which will store and hold the wire 11. As can be seen thecutout 7 is accessible even in the mounted state of thecladding support 1 and the cladding 9, making it possible to retrofit electrical accessories with minimum effort, and further the wires will be at least partially concealed by the cladding after mounting, so the wiring will not impair the visual appearance of a window. - Further the
cladding support 1 is provided with amassive wall 6 to limit or prevent a flow of air along theframe element 10, whereby the overall thermal insulation is improved, as pockets of stagnant air will be provided between the cladding 9 and theframe 10. Often a ventilation flap (not shown) is provided in a window to allow a certain, minimum ventilation to the inside of the building in which the window is mounted. By providing this ventilation flap behind the cladding 9 in an area of stagnant air, the difference between the inside and outside temperature will be reduced and thereby any possible condensation on the ventilation flap is reduced.
