Abstract

The duct walls (8) are heated using a electrical resistance heating technique. Resistance heating is achieved by securing a flat heating fabric against the outside of the duct. The band (3) is passed through a duct (1) which is open at both ends but otherwise closed and then heated. Eddy currents are induced in the band by a magnetic field generated by at least one coil (6) around the duct.
