Description
Revolving door
The invention relates to a revolving door comprising a substantially cylindrical shell wall, and within the shell wall door leaves rotably arranged about a rotation axis and wherein the shell wall is further provided with an entrance and an exit, and wherein the shell wall and the door leaves comprise aluminium extrusion profiles.
Applicants have been marketing such a revolving door for many years already.
The known revolving door has evolved from the re- volving door introduced in US-387,571.
The known revolving door comprises fifteen or more different kinds of aluminium extrusion profiles, which results in high manufacturing costs for the revolving door. Each extrusion profile requires its own mould. Moreover, the many different extrusion profiles also result in high storage costs .
It is the object of the invention to reduce the manufacturing costs of this known revolving door and at the same time to simplify the construction of the revolving door. To this end the revolving door according to the invention is characterized in that the extrusion profiles used for the shell wall and the door leaves are uniform.
This measure allows the construction of the revolving door to become quite simple, especially in the embodi- ment, which is characterized in that the extrusion profiles of the shell wall and the door leaves form a framework incorporating a plate for the completion of the door leaves or shell wall, respectively.
The construction can easily be adapted to the re- quirements by selecting the plate from the group comprising (light) metal, glass, carton. Especially in the embodiment using carton, the revolving door can be executed so as to be very light. Actually, the embodiment in glass can also be very light. As a consequence, the drive of the revolving door can also be simplified and equipped with lighter motors.
At the top side of the shell wall, the revolving
door is usually furnished with a canopy strip bordered by extrusion profiles. In a further aspect of the invention, said revolving door is characterized in that the material of the canopy strip is selected from the group comprising (light) metal, glass, carton.
The invention will be further elucidated with reference to the drawing, which in a single figure shows an embodiment of the revolving door according to the invention.
The figure shows a revolving door indicated by ref- erence number 1, which is embodied with a substantially cylindrical shell wall 2 and within the shell wall door leaves 4 , rotatably arranged about a rotation axis 3.
The shell wall 2 is further provided with an entrance 5 and an exit 6. Both the shell wall 2 and the door leaves 4 comprise aluminium extrusion profiles having a uniform cross section. The profiles are made to the desired length or are bent in their longitudinal direction in order to render said extrusion profiles suitable for the intended function. In the figure, the following uniform extrusion profiles are shown. The door leaves 4 comprise a jamb 7, a lower horizontal 8 and a rear jamb 9 as well as an upper horizontal 10. These elements form a framework within which a plate is accommodated. The plate is made of a suitable (light) metal, of carton or of reinforced or unreinforced glass. The figure shows the embodiment in glass .
With respect to the shell wall 2, attention is drawn to the profiles forming the shell upright 11, the bottom sill 12 and the canopy strip 20. The jamb 11, the bottom sill 12 and the canopy strip 20 in their turn form a curved framework within which a plate is accommodated made of (light) metal, glass or carton as desired. The figure shows an embodiment in glass .
At the top side of the shell wall 12 a canopy strip 14 is provided, bordered at its lower side by the canopy strip profile 20 and at its top side by the ceiling profile 19. This ceiling profile 19, too, is embodied to be uniform with the canopy strip profile 20. As material for the canopy strip 14, use may be made of (light) metal, glass or carton. In the figure, the embodiment is shown in aluminium. The re-
volving door 1 may be provided with a ceiling 21, executed in, for example, carton.
Finally, the figure shows provisions for an optional facility for locking up at night, of which an upright 18 forms part of the first rolling door 16 in which the lock for locking up at night is mounted. Upright 17 also forms part of the construction of the first rolling door 16. The facility for locking up at night is complimented by a second rolling door 16 capable of engaging the lock provided in the upright 18 of the first rolling door 16. The construction of the facility for locking up at night is also fabricated from profiles that are uniform with those of the remainder of the revolving door construction.
