Printing apparatus (10) having a print head (62) and a print backing support (70) assigned to the said print head (62), comprising a printer housing (12), a chassis lower part (34) and a chassis upper part (36) which is mounted on the said chassis lower part (34) such that it can be pivoted between a position, in which it bears against the chassis lower part (34), and a position which releases a receptacle (38) for a recording-medium supply roller (42), having an electromechanically actuable cutting apparatus (52) which comprises a lower knife (74) and an upper knife (76), characterized in that the upper housing part (18) is divided into a front region (20) and a rear region (22), in that the front region (20) of the upper housing part (18) can be pivoted about a first pivoting axis (26) which is close to the upper front edge (24) of the printer housing (12) and extends parallel to the said upper front edge (24), and the rear region (22) can be pivoted together with the chassis upper part (36) about a second pivoting axis (30) which is close to the upper rear edge (28) of the printer housing (12) and extends parallel to the said upper rear edge (28), in that a dispensing slot (23) for a recording medium is formed between the two regions (20, 22) of the chassis upper part (36), at which dispensing slot (23) the cutting apparatus (52) is arranged, and in that the lower knife (74) is arranged fixedly in the front region (20) of the upper housing part (18), and the upper knife (76) is mounted displaceably in the chassis upper part (36) and a displacement drive (78, 80, 82) for the upper knife (76) is arranged in the said chassis upper part (36).
  2. Printing apparatus (10) according to Claim 1, the upper knife (76) of which has a V-shaped blade or a blade which extends obliquely with respect to the lower knife (74).
