Armrest for fixing to the underframe of a chair, easy chair or the like, having an armrest carrier (10), and with a tubularly configured armrest holder (15) over the top of which a guide sleeve (11) which is firmly connected to the arm support (20) substantially positively engages, one narrow side wall of which has latching recesses (16) located at a distance from each other, into which a detent (18) is inserted in a locking manner, said detent being provided on a latching subassembly (17) received by the armrest holder (15) at a distance from its upper end, so that the guide sleeve (11) with the arm support (20) is displaceable with respect to the armrest holder (15) in defined steps, with return means being provided which, on lifting the detent (18) out of the assigned recess of the latching recesses (16), are stretched, causing the detent (18) to be inserted into one of the latching recesses (16) characterised in that the armrest holder (15) has a substantially rectangular slot which receives the latching subassembly (17) in a movable manner, with the latching subassembly (17) being configured in the form of an approximately right-angled acute triangle, the corner of which assigned to the approximate right angle preferably having projecting axle journals (17.1) on both sides, which, when inserted into an axle journal holder (10.2) on the upper side of the armrest holder head (10.1), form the pivot axis of the latching subassembly (17), at the corner of which assigned to the more obtuse of the two remaining angles a disengaging button (17.2) guided out of the armrest carrier head (10.1) is attached, and at the corner of which assigned to the acute angle of the two remaining angles the detent (18) is arranged and an approximately U- or V-shaped return spring (19) is provided, such that its free end is supported against the closed back of the slot of the armrest holder (15), which receives the latching subassembly (17).
  2. Armrest as claimed in Claim 1. characterised in that the latching subassembly (17) is fixed on the armrest carrier head (10.1).
  3. Armrest as claimed in Claim 2, characterised in that a screw-on bar plate (12) is provided to fix the latching subassembly (17) on the armrest carrier head (10.1).
  4. Armrest as claimed in Claim 1. 2 or 3, characterised in that the disengaging button (17.2) is integrally moulded on the corner assigned to the more obtuse angle of the right-angled triangular latching subassembly (17).
  5. Armrest as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the return spring (19) is integrally moulded on the corner assigned to the more acute of the angles.
  6. Armrest as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the free end of the return spring (16) is approximately in the form of a circular arc, such that, when the return spring (16) is stretched or relaxed, this arc can roll off on the wall supporting the return spring (16).
  7. Armrest as claimed in any one of the preceding Claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the latching subassembly (17) is configured as a plastic injection-moulded part, preferably with a thermoplastic polycondensate or a thermoplastic polymerisate as the plastic.
