Firelighter for igniting solid fuels, such as wood or charcoal, especially for fireplaces for solid fuels, every design of tiled stoves and barbecue grills, said firelighter being in the form of a paraffin-soaked natural wood-wool cord section, characterised in that a large number of paraffin-covered wood-wool shavings (1, 2) protrude from the circumference of the wood-wool cord section and in that the paraffin density is greater in the interior (3) of the firelighter than in the outer region of same.
    2. Firelighter according to claim 1, characterised in that the paraffin-soaked wood-wool cord section has a defined residual moisture and the paraffin forms a solid, wax-like paraffin core.
    3. Firelighter according to one of claims 1-2, characterised in that the paraffin density and/or the wood-wool density increases radially from the outside to the central axis of the firelighter.
    4. Firelighter according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the paraffin is of a degree of purity such as is required by food laws, and in that the firelighter is odourless.
    5. Firelighter according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the paraffin is a hard paraffin, the melting point of which is above 60°C.
    6. Firelighter according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the firelighter has a diameter of about 25-30 mm with a length of 50 mm.
    7. Firelighter according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the paraffin serves as a preservative for the wood-wool shavings of the firelighter.
    8. Method for manufacturing a firelighter according to one of the preceding claims, in which one or more cord pieces (4), produced from wood wool, are dipped into paraffin (8) which is liquefied by heating and located in a dipping tank (7), characterised in that the cord pieces (4) are removed from the liquid paraffin (8) after a preset dipping time and are cooled again in stretched-out form and in that each cord piece (4) which has solidified into a stick is cut into small pieces (9 to 11) forming firelighters.
    9. Method according to claim 8, characterised in that a number of cord pieces (4) is dipped simultaneously into the liquid paraffin (8) by means of a dipping basket (5) and removed from the dipping tank (7) again after the dipping time, and the paraffin-soaked cord pieces (4) remain in the dipping basket (5) until they have reached a defined degree of cooling and have solidified.
    10. Method according to one of claims 8 or 9, characterised in that the small pieces (9 to 11) which represent the wood-wool cord sections and thus the finished firelighters, are cut from the solidified cord pieces (4) by means of a band, circular, scroll or frame saw or by means of disc and portion cutters.
    11. Method according to one of claims 8 to 10, characterised in that the cord pieces (4) are cut from a cord roll comprising a number of metres of wood-wool cord.
