Die Erfindung betrifft ein Display mit einer Displaybeleuch¬ tungseinrichtung und Mitteln zur Steuerung der Displaybeleuchtungseinrichtung in Abhängigkeit von einer mittels eines lichtsensitiven Elements ermittelten Lichtstärke einer am Display auftretenden Lichtstrahlung. Die meisten heutzutage verwendeten Displays, beispielsweise Displays in Mobilfunkgeräten, Pagern, Organizern oder sonsti- gen Terminals weisen eine Displaybeleuchtungseinrichtung auf. Bei selbstleuchtenden Typen von Displays, beispielsweise LED (Leuchtdioden) , OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) oder CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) -Displays, besteht diese Displaybeleuchtungseinrichtung darin, dass die Anzeigeelemente bzw. die An- zeigefläche selbst aktiv Licht emittieren (selbstleuchtende Displays) . LCD-Displays (Flüssigkeitskristalldisplays) sind in vielen Fällen, wie beispielsweise reflektive LCDs, mit einer zusätzlichen Beleuchtungsquelle ausgestattet, um auch in dunkler Umgebung benutzt werden zu können, oder verwenden ei- ne Beleuchtungseinrichtung, um die eigentlichen Anzeigeelemente überhaupt ablesbar zu machen (transmissive LCDs) . Für Displays des selbstleuchtenden Typs ist eine aktive Helligkeitskontrolle notwendig. Ansonsten müssten diese Displays immer unter der vollen Helligkeitsstufe betrieben werden, um auch in einer sehr hellen Umgebung, beispielsweise im direkten Sonnenlicht, lesbar zu bleiben. In einer relativ dunklen Umgebung würde dann aber das Display viel zu hell erscheinen, um angenehm abgelesen werden zu können. Auch für Displays des reflektiven, trans issiven oder transreflektiven Typs beste- hen Vorteile einer aktiven Steuerung der zusätzlichen Lichtquelle in Abhängigkeit vom Umgebungslicht. Claims
1. Display (1) mit einer Displaybeleuchtungseinrichtung und Mitteln zur Steuerung der Displaybeleuchtungseinrichtung in Abhängigkeit von einer mittels eines lichtsensitiven Elements1.
