Abstract

A spring-latch lock (1) to be surface-mounted on a door wing, constituted by a box-like body (2) that accommodates internally spring-latch actuation means, characterized in that it comprises a base plate (9) that is associable with the door wing and a supporting plate (14) for a cylinder (19) for actuating the means which is interposed between the base plate (9) and the box-like body (2), at least one positioning slot (10, 11) being provided in the base plate (9) in order to allow to adjust the position of the box-like body (2) with respect to the actuation cylinder (19) at right angles to the jamb side of the door wing.

Description

  • The present invention relates to an improvement to a surface-mounted spring-latch lock.
  • Currently commercially available locks have various standardized dimensions, characterized by the center distance between the cylinder and the jamb. Therefore, also in view of the rightward or leftward opening direction of the door, it is necessary to provide a number of variations for each kind of lock. This leads to difficult management of inventory quantities and to the obvious need to always have in store a wide range of locks in order to meet each specific requirement.
  • The technical aim of the present invention is to obviate the cited drawbacks by providing a lock that allows to set the actuation cylinder in predefined standard positions.
  • Within the scope of this technical aim, an object of the present invention is to provide a reversible lock that has a simple structure, is relatively easy to provide in practice, safe in use, effective in operation, and relatively low in cost.
  • This aim and this object are both achieved by the present spring-latch lock to be surface-mounted on a door wing, constituted by a box-like body that accommodates internally spring-latch actuation means, characterized in that it comprises a base plate that is associable with said door wing and a supporting plate for a cylinder for actuating said means which is interposed between said base plate and said box-like body, at least one positioning slot being provided in said base plate in order to allow to adjust the position of said box-like body with respect to said actuation cylinder at right angles to the jamb side of said door wing.
  • Further features of the lock according to the invention will become better apparent from the detailed description of two embodiments thereof, illustrated only by way of non-limitative example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
  • Figure 1 is a side view of a lock according to a first embodiment;
  • Figure 2 is a perspective view of said lock;
  • Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view;
  • Figure 4 is an exploded perspective view of a lock according to another embodiment.
  • With particular reference to Figures 1, 2 and 3, the reference numeral 1 generally designates a spring-latch lock of the so-called rotary type, which is known for example from Italian patent application no. BO2001A000330 by the same Applicant.
  • The spring-latch lock 1 comprises an internal frame, which consists of a box-like body 2 that contains and supports the lock actuation elements, which are not described and illustrated in the present application because they are fully known from the cited patent application no. BO2001A000033. The box-like body 2 is composed of two side walls 4 and 5, which are flat and parallel and are joined by means of a wall 6. Two respective lips 7 an 8 protrude laterally at right angles from the two side walls 4 and 5 and are associable with a rectangular base plate 9, by means of which the lock is mounted on a door wing, which is not shown in the accompanying drawings.
  • The plate 9 comprises two positioning slots 10 and 11, which extend parallel to the longer side of the plate 9. In the region between the longer side and the edge 12 of the positioning slots 10 and 11 that is parallel thereto there are respective series of centering and retention pins 13 and 13a, which are aligned parallel to the edge 12.
  • A supporting plate 14 is interposed between the lips 7 and 8 and the plate 9 and comprises centering elements, which consist of two lugs 15 and 16 that protrude from the central peripheral region, each lug being provided with a hole 17 and 18. An actuation cylinder 19 is fixed to the supporting plate 14, at the lug 15, and passes through the respective positioning slot 10 or 11. The cylinder 19 passes through the door wing proximate to its jamb edge, and a bit 20 is rigidly coupled to its cylinder and is adapted to operate manually the actuation means 21 of the lock 1 when it is actuated by means of a key 22.
  • In practical operation, in order to adjust the position of the actuation cylinder 19 with respect to the plate 9 it is sufficient to engage in the holes 17 or 18 the respective centering pins 13, 13a, chosen according to the positioning requirements of the lock 1.
  • At this point, in order to assemble the body 2 of the lock 1, the base plate 9 is connected to the respective lips 7 and 8 by means of fixing screws, which are driven through holes 23 and 24 formed in the lips 7 and 8 and in the peripheral region of the base plate 9.
  • It should be note that in mounting the lock on the door wing, the supporting plate 14 is clamped between the body 2 and the base plate 9.
  • It has thus been shown that the invention achieves the intended aim and object.
  • In particular, the fact is stressed that before mounting the lock on the wing it is possible to adjust the position of the base plate 9 and therefore of the box-like body 2 with respect to the actuation cylinder 19, whose position depends on the geometry of the door wing and on the location of the selvage that must receive the spring-latch of the lock.
  • In particular, it is noted that by turning the supporting plate 14 through 180° it is possible to install the lock on right- or left-hinged door wings, maintaining the same level of the cylinder 19.
  • The invention thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the inventive concept.
  • Figure 4 illustrates another embodiment, in which the inventive concept is used in a conventional surface-mounted lock. The details or parts that are equivalent to those of the previously described embodiment are designated by the same reference numerals.
  • In these known locks, the spring-latch actuation elements are actuated not only by means of the cylinder 19 that passes through the thickness of the door wing but also by a cylinder 25 that is fixed to the box-like body 2.
  • The cylinder 19, in a fully intuitive manner, is fixed to a supporting plate (not shown in the drawing), which like the previously described example has two corresponding holes that can be engaged by the pins 13, 13a of the base plate 9.
  • In practice, the materials used, as well as the shapes and the dimensions, may be any according to requirements without thereby abandoning the scope of the protection of the appended claims.
  • The disclosures in Italian Utility Model Patent Application no. BO2002U000025, from which this application claims priority, are incorporated herein by reference.
  • Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs, those reference signs have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility of the claims and accordingly such reference signs do not have any limiting effect on the scope of each element identified by way of example by such reference signs.
