Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a drill bit specially adapted for drilling or for producing anchor holes in granite or other very hard materials.
  • a drill bit specially adapted for drilling or for producing anchor holes in granite or other very hard materials.
  • Such a bit known in the prior art is described in US-A-2371498.
  • An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a new bit that can improve the performance of this operation without being subject to the difficulties of reloading the active elements of the bit.
  • the bit is constituted by two distinct parts that can move in vertical translation relative to each other, the lower part of the bit first hit the ground where it is desired to carry out the drilling then the upper part, guided in translation by the cooperation of the recess and the axial bore and the axial cylindrical guide, approaches the lower part.
  • the cooperation of the ramp-shaped recess with the ramp-like extension converts the vertical translation movement of the upper part into a rotational movement of this same part about the axis common to the axial bore. and to the cylindrical axial guide.
  • the upper part impacts in rotation the lower part transmitting to its active face a rotational movement which is added to the vertical implant.
  • the ramp-shaped male and female elements having a helical shape corresponding to the cylindrical shape of the upper and lower portions of the bit, during their approach, the conversion of the translational movement of the part is obtained under optimum conditions.
  • upper bit in a rotational movement of the same upper part of the trephine.
  • the vertical planes of the ramps collide, which produces a rotation of the lower part.
  • the bit 10 is constituted by a lower portion 12 and an upper portion 14.
  • the upper portion 14 has at its upper end 16 ears or analogues 18 to allow attachment of the end of the cable or rope 20 to which the drill bit is suspended.
  • the upper part 14 is guided in vertical translation with respect to the lower part 12 by the cooperation of a cylindrical guide 22 which projects out of the lower face 24 of the upper part 14 and of a cylindrical axial bore 26 pierced in the lower part 12 of the bit and opening into the upper face 12 'of the lower portion 12.
  • the facing faces 24 and 12' are parallel to each other and substantially horizontal.
  • the cylindrical guide 22 and the cylindrical bore 26 define a vertical common axis X-X 'in which the upper part 14 can move relative to the lower part 12.
  • the upper part 14, which is preferably cylindrical with axis XX ', also preferably comprises two extensions 30 and 32 which are diametrically opposite with respect to the axis XX' and which project into the lower face 24 of the upper part 14.
  • These extensions are limited, on the one hand, by a plane A passing through the axis X-X ', on the other hand, by a portion of helix H. It is a matter of even for the extension 32.
  • the edge H of the extension 30 or 32 in the form of a helix thus constitutes a ramp capable of cooperating with a conjugate ramp formed in the lower part 12 of the bit.
  • the conjugate ramp is constituted by recesses 34 and 36 diametrically opposed.
  • the recesses are delimited, on the one hand, by a plane A 'passing through the axis XX' and, on the other hand, by a helical portion H 'of the same pitch as the helix H of the upper part. It will be understood that, during the displacement in translation of the upper part 14 with respect to the lower part 12 in the axial direction X-X ', the extensions 30 and 32 of the upper part can progressively penetrate into the recesses 34 and 36 of the lower part.
  • the planes A and A ' respectively define for the extensions and the recesses vertical surfaces 23 and 25 arranged in planes which contain the axis X-X'.
  • the lower end 28 of the lower portion 12 is equipped with picks or similar tools 38 which are made more active and more efficient by the rotation of the lower part 12.
  • the lower portion 12 and upper 14 are made integral in translation by two chains such as 42 whose ends 42A and 42B are respectively fixed on the upper portions 14 and lower 12 of the bit.
  • the chains 42 are of course stretched and, in this position, the lower ends 30a, 32a of the extensions 30 and 32 are slightly engaged in the recesses 34 and 36 of such so that the end of the helical ramp H is in contact with the end of the ramp H 'thus achieving a pre-positioning of the two parts of the bit to allow the cooperation of the helical ramps and therefore the rotation of the lower part of the bit.
  • FIG. 1A the two parts of the bit are shown in their relative positions occupied when the lower part of the bit has not yet touched the ground to be drilled.
  • FIG. 1B shows the drill bit in an intermediate position in which the lower part 12 has already struck the ground S and the upper part has begun to approach the lower part, the cooperation of the helical ramps H and H 'having caused the beginning of the rotation of the upper part 14 in the direction of the arrow F.
  • FIG. 1C there is shown the final position of the bit in which the lower face 24 of the upper part 14 and the upper face 12 'of the lower part 12 are in contact, the extensions 30 and 32 occupying completely the recesses 34 and 36.
  • the rotation of the upper portion 14 is thus completely complete.
  • the vertical face 23 of the extensions 30 and 32 coming into contact with the vertical faces 25 of the recesses 34 and 36, the upper part 14 of the bit transmits a very large torque to the lower part 12 causing the rotation of the latter in the direction indicated by the arrow F ', which improves the efficiency of the bit.
  • the pitch of the propellers H and H ' results from a compromise between the desired angle of rotation and the possibility of effectively converting the translation movement of the upper part 14 into a rotational movement of the lower part. 12. More precisely, it is understood that, if the pitch is too small, that is to say if the angle that the tangent to the helix with the axis XX 'is too close to 90 degrees, this conversion movement would not be in favorable conditions.
  • FIGS 4A-4C there is shown another embodiment of the bit.
  • the cylindrical guide which serves as a guide in translation and pivot axis is constituted by a separate part of the upper and lower parts of the bit.
  • the upper portion 14 has a blind axial bore 50 and the lower portion 12 also has an axial bore 52 opening into the lower face 26.
  • the latter bore 52 having a shoulder 54 near its lower end.
  • the cylindrical extension is constituted by a shaft member 56 freely mounted in translation and rotation in the axial bores 50 and 52.
  • the lower end 58 of the shaft 56 has a reduced diameter corresponding to the shoulder 54.
  • the upper 14 and lower 12 portions of the bit also include respectively boom extensions 30 and 32 and ramp-like recesses 34 and 36 as shown in FIGS. 1A-1C.
  • the number of extensions 30, 32 and therefore the number of recesses 34, 36 is limited to two. This makes it possible to have a sufficient relative angle of rotation of the two parts of the bit to cause sufficient rotation of the lower part of the bit. it also allows to have vertical surfaces 23 and 25 and thus to have an effective torque transmission.
