Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a composite synthetic rope, intended in particular, but not exclusively, tennis racket string.
Composite synthetic ropes are already known. In FR-A-2,770,140, a two-component synthetic rope is described: multifilament yarns of polyamide and polyurethane, the multifilaments being integrated in a polyurethane matrix. The polyurethane binder, whose elastic behavior is much greater than that of polyamide, makes it possible to obtain, with a particular structure of the rope, a high tensile strength and an average hardness resulting in a rapid return of the rope in its initial position after the impact of a bullet.
The present invention aims to use this advantage and greatly extend the life of tennis ropes, even used with rigid frame rackets, with an original appearance.
According to the present invention, the synthetic composite rope, in particular for tennis racket, comprising threads of a first synthetic material and a binder made of a second synthetic material impregnating at heart, joining and covering said spirally wound threads, the point of fusion of the binder being lower than that of the yarns and its much higher elasticity, said yarns being made of multifilaments, is characterized in that at least one monofilament with two flat sides is arranged at the center of the cord, the latter being bent under traction, after its formation, causing delamination.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the rope is characterized in that the oblong monofilament appears as a contrasted spiral through the transparent binder.
A single flat monofilament flat wire is sufficient to achieve the desired effect. Preferably, the central monofilament or monofilaments are elongated monofilaments with very high tenacity, whose section is of generally rectangular shape with rounded edges. They are in a way a soul of the rope. We can also provide some small monofilaments disposed at the periphery of the rope to resist abrasion. The central monofilament (or a bundle of multifilaments) can be colored to enhance the iridescent light effect. It is also possible to stain the polyurethane or binder in the mass.
- Figure 1, a cross section of a rope according to the present invention.
- Figure 2 is a view of a rope according to the invention.
In Figure 1, we see that the rope according to the invention is composed of
Monofilaments 3 also support the dynamic work of the rope. The rope according to the invention, furthermore stiffened by the presence of monofilaments, is easier to string.
The
The method of manufacturing by twisting such a rope is traditional, that is to say it consists in coating monofilaments and multifilaments before twisting and twisting them with a twist rate of 50 to 200 revolutions / meter, the rope being, after twisting and evaporation of the solvent, passed through a die of contour regularization and evacuation of the polyurethane in excess. After that, the tension is exerted on the rope which produces a delamination and causes the central monofilaments to appear through the polyurethane.
The multifilament coils, elongated monofilaments and are mounted on a turntable on which the son are coated with a polyurethane solution. The wires pass through an oven that evaporates the solvent and prepolymers the polyurethane. Then the threads are milled in a ring and the binder is finally polymerized in an oven. After that pull on the wire to achieve the desired effect. The rope can thus be built in one operation and without rework.
The bending under tension exerted on the rope, for example by means of a capstan, or by passing on an axis or in a tightening die, causes a delamination which makes that the spiral of the central monofilaments appears like a helix through the transparent polyurethane. The pitch of the spiral is a function of twisting.
It has been noted that the strings according to the invention have a sound, when the impact of a ball similar to that of natural gut.
The rope shown in FIG. 1 has a diameter of 1.30 mm and has a tensile strength greater than 80 daN. Its elongation of rupture is of the order of 25%, and its mass of 1.5 grams per meter. It consists of two oblong monofilaments of 2,200 decitex which, during twisting, are spirally wound, and four multifilament yarns including 140 filaments each with a diameter of 28 microns. The set of threads is twisted at 80 revolutions / meter.
Although, in the above description, the multifilament and monofilament are polyamide, this material can be replaced by any other synthetic material having good dynamic characteristics, such as polyester, for example. The central monofilament son may be of any section provided to have two flat sides so that the contact between the two son can be done on a non-point surface.
It goes without saying that many variants can be made, in particular by substitution of technically equivalent means without departing from the scope of the invention, which is defined in the claims.
