It has been calculated that for a 350°C exhaust gas (highest temperature expected) entering a 40°C inlet air stream (highest ambient temperature expected) at a proportion of 30 % by mass exhaust gas (highest exhaust gas expected) the final bulk gas temperature would be around 170°C assuming perfect mixing.
  • 170°C is the maximum temperature that a typical plastic manifold can withstand. Placing the elbow section as close to the throttle valve as possible and introducing the gas in such a way as to maximize the mixing will ensure that the exhaust gas cannot damage an inlet manifold made from plastic.
  • a further modification of the invention provides that the elbow section is comprised of a separate housing member fitted between the throttle body and the inlet manifold.
  • the elbow housing member and the throttle body are connected to each other so as to provide for optimal heat transfer therebetween.

Claims (10)

  1. Dispositif permettant de recycler des gaz d'échappement dans un courant d'air d'admission dans un moteur à combustion interne, comprenant
       un passage d'admission (2), permettant de faire communiquer de l'air d'admission avec un collecteur d'admission (8),
       une vanne à papillon, contenant un élément d'étranglement (10) qui se trouve dans ledit passage d'admission (2), de façon à être mobile entre des positions d'ouverture et de fermeture, de telle sorte qu'une zone de reflux (16) existe en aval dudit élément d'étranglement (10) pendant le fonctionnement, et
       un conduit (12) de recyclage de gaz d'échappement, agencé pour introduire des gaz d'échappement dans ledit passage d'admission (2) à travers une entrée (14) pour gaz d'échappement, en aval dudit élément d'étranglement (10),
       caractérisé en ce que
       ledit passage d'admission (2) comprend une section coudée (6) entre ledit élément d'étranglement (10) et ladite entrée (14) pour gaz d'échappement, afin d'empêcher l'entrée de gaz d'échappement dans ladite zone de reflux (16).
  2. Dispositif selon la revendication 1, dans lequel ladite section coudée (6) comprend un coude à 90°.
  3. Dispositif selon la revendication 1 ou selon la revendication 2, dans lequel ledit élément d'étranglement (10) se trouve tout près d'une extrémité amont de ladite section coudée (6), de sorte que ladite zone de reflux (16) s'étend dans ladite section coudée (6).
  4. Dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, dans lequel ladite entrée (14) pour gaz d'échappement se trouve tout près d'une extrémité aval de ladite section coudée (6).
  5. Dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel ladite entrée (14) pour gaz d'échappement est une entrée à orifice unique.
  6. Dispositif selon la revendication 5, dans lequel ladite entrée (14) pour gaz d'échappement est agencée pour introduire les gaz d'échappement dans ledit passage d'admission (2) tangentiellement par rapport à une paroi circonférentielle (20) dudit passage d'admission (2), afin de procurer une allure hélicoïdale à l'écoulement de gaz d'échappement (22).
  7. Dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel ladite section coudée (6) est constituée d'un élément indépendant de carter, fixé entre un corps d'étrangleur (4) et un collecteur d'admission (8).
  8. Dispositif selon la revendication 7, dans lequel ladite entrée (14) pour gaz d'échappement se trouve dans ledit élément de carter à section coudée (6).
  9. Dispositif selon la revendication 8, dans lequel ledit élément de carter à section coudée (6) et ledit corps d'étrangleur (4) sont raccordés l'un à l'autre afin de procurer un transfert de chaleur optimal entre eux.
  10. Dispositif selon la revendication 8 ou selon la revendication 9, dans lequel ledit élément de carter à section coudée (6) et ledit corps d'étrangleur (4) ont une inertie thermique minimale.
