Description

The invention relates to connection devices that are used to connect electrically two electrical devices or electronics, such as a telephone device portable to a battery charger or headset listening.

It is known to use for this kind of connections electrical devices called "jack" which are in the form of a sheath, generally of circular section, in the opening of which comes snap on a circular cross-section spindle. The scabbard is carried by the device while the spindle constitutes the end of a cable with several conductors.

Depending on the number of conductors to be connected, the sheath and the pin each have as many parts lengthwise separated by insulating parts, conductive parts cooperating sheath and spindle to make electrical contact between them.

These "jack" type electrical connection devices have the following drawbacks:
  • they are limited in number of conductors to connect to each other,
  • they have a large longitudinal dimension which increases with the number of conductors to be connected,
  • they break easily if the plug is torn off, even if the plug is elbow-shaped,
  • the opening of the sheath and the sheath itself can become clogged, for example by dust and grains of sand, which leads to poor electrical contacts which can lead to a breakdown, due to the destruction of the conductive parts ,
  • the sheath can fill with water, which also leads to poor electrical contacts and a possible breakdown, and
  • as the distinction between the different cables to be connected to the device is made by the diameter of the pin and therefore of the sheath, it can happen that a pin is forced into a sheath of slightly smaller diameter, resulting in degradation leading to a breakdown.

An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a electrical connection device between a cable and a electrical / electronic device that does not have the disadvantages of connection devices electric of the prior art, in particular of the "jack" type listed above.

This goal is achieved by implementing a electrical connection in two parts, part of which has connected circular conductive tracks electrically to conductors to be connected while the other part has elastic contacts each cooperating with a conductive circular track and electrically connected to conductors at connect, the two parts of the connection device electric being assembled by a snap elastic that maintains pressure between each track conductive circular and elastic contact corresponding.

An electrical connection device 10 according to the invention comprises two separate parts or elements 12 and 14 which are snapped together elastic type for example.

The socket 18 is made of material insulator, for example rigid plastic. An extremity 20 of each electrical contact 18 comes out from one side 26 of the bend to be connected to a cable conductor while the other end 22 is curved in shape of U to form an elastic contact 24 which emerges from the other side 28 of the elbow relative to a bottom 30.

The side 28 of the elbow extends beyond the bottom 30 and contacts 24 in the form of a section ring 32 circular whose elastic end 34 comes snap into a circular groove 36 of the part 14.

This ring 32 is preferably made of conductive metal electric and can have three slots 60 on its outer periphery, which gives it better elasticity for the snap on part 14. The that this ring 32 is conductive is set to profit to detect the electrical connection between two parts of the connection device.

However, the ring 32 can be, in certain applications, in insulating material such as socket 18 and, in this case is an integral part of the latter and presents the slots 60 for obtaining a better snap elasticity.

La partie 14, celle qui est connectée à certains circuits électroniques de l'appareil à connecter au câble, a une forme générale cylindrique de révolution présentant des gorges circulaires 36 et 38.Part 14, the one that is connected to some electronic circuits of the device to be connected to cable, has a generally cylindrical shape of revolution having circular grooves 36 and 38.

On the side of the groove 36, the part 14 has a circular surface 40 which includes n = 3 tracks conductive circulars 62, 64 and 66 provided for cooperate by sliding contact with parts 24 of contacts 16 of part 12 after snap-fastening.

Each circular track 62, 64 and 66 is associated respectively a through bore 72, 74 and 76 which is used for the passage of a connecting conductor between a track and one of the three electrical output contacts 82, 84 and 86 to the electronic circuits.

This connecting conductor between the circular track 62, 64 or 66 and the corresponding contact 82, 84 and 86 is made, for example, as a layer conductive lining the walls of the bore corresponding. Each bore opens from one side to a conductive circular track and, on the other side, on a conductive layer 92 for the bore 72, 94 for bore 74 and 96 for bore 76.

Each conductive circular track is isolated from a adjacent circular track by a circular area insulator 42a, 42b, 42c corresponding to the absence of driver deposit. It is the same with the layers conductors 92, 94 and 96 which are separated from each other others by insulating zones 60.

The other two electrical contacts 88 and 90, intended to be connected to electronic circuits and arranged on either side of the central contacts 82, 84 and 86, are each electrically connected to a conductive layer 100 and 102 covering the surface part 14, including grooves 34 and 38. These conductive layers 100 and 102 are isolated electrically from one another by a zone 104 without conductor depot, this zone 104 delimiting each layer 100 and 102 to one half of the outer surface in ending, on one side, in the insulating circular zone 42c of larger diameter and, on the other side, at the insulating zone 60b and 60a.

These conductive zones 100 and 102 are in contact with the zones of the ring 32 when the two parts 12 and 14 are snapped so that the areas conductive 100 and 102, and therefore the contacts 88 and 90, are at the same potential whatever the position relative of parts 12 and 14. This provision allows to detect that parts 12 and 14 are connected between them.

In this indeed, the contacts 82 to 90 are arranged on a plate 52 which must be arranged parallel to the support 50, the plate extending laterally, the lateral extensions 54 coming to be embedded in cutouts 56 of the walls of the housing 58 containing the electronic circuits arranged on the support 50.

In addition, the part 14 is maintained on the housing by a cutout 42 cooperating with the groove 38.

The connection device according to the invention has the following advantages:
  • part 14 of the device, that fixed to the housing 58, is in elastic contact with the support 50 thanks to the contacts 82 to 90, which reduces the probability of deterioration of the electrical connections with the support 50 in the event of a fall,
  • there is no possibility of forcibly connecting two parts 12 and 14 which are not provided for connecting together because the diametrical dimensions are different depending on the type of cable to be connected,
  • in the event of tearing off, the part 12 disconnects easily without damaging the part 14 and, consequently, without damaging the support 50, due to the elasticity of the ring 32 and that of the connection with the support 50,
  • the wear of the contacts, tracks 62, 64 and 66 and contacts 24, as a result of successive connections and disconnections, is reduced to a minimum because there is no sliding of the two ends with respect to the 'other,
  • the probability of fouling of the contacts is reduced due to the absence of a sheath and, in the event of fouling, cleaning of the contacts is easy,
  • the possibility of water entry is limited because it does not have a sheath,
  • the number of conductors to be connected together can be increased by increasing the number of conductive tracks and the diametrical dimension,
  • the dimensions are reduced by at least half compared to a "jack" type connection device for the same number of conductors to be connected.
