Abstract
Description
- This invention is represented by a castor oiled zinc based deodorant composition for fabrics.
- Specifically the patent refers to a composition acting as smell neutraliser to be preferably applied by spray on fabrics or similar, in order to remove the smells absorbed by the fabric.
- The composition consists of the following components:
- castor oiled zinc (smell neutraliser), in an amount not higher than 1%;
- polyethoxyled hydrogenated castor oil with 40 moles of solubilising ethylene oxide
- denatured ethyl alcohol (solubilising-evaporator);
- perfume;
- terpene mixture (solubilising-perfuming);
- DTPMP sodic salt (sequestering);
- citric acid (pH regulator - stabilising);
- demineralised water.
- A liquid compound than can be easily sprayed on the fabrics to eliminate the absorbed smells is thus obtained.
- At present compositions are known used for this purpose, which contain a certain amount of perfume able to cover the smell absorbed by the fabrics, without eliminating it.
- Of course, it is not an optimal solution and lacking in efficacy, therefore there is the need to be able to neutralise the smells absorbed by the fabrics, by eliminating them, without covering them with other perfumes or similar.
- The use of castor oiled zinc as deodorant is already known, it was described in some previous patents, among which we can cite the patent WO 98/38868, the patent DE 4014055, the patent WO 01/12145, the patent GB 1282889 and the patent WO 00/01421.
- All these documents mention, anyway, compositions which contain an enough high quantity of castor oiled zinc, this causes the formation of a remarkable quantity of dry residue, that when the composition evaporates, remains visible particularly when applied on dark tissues.
- Furthermore the greater quantity of castor oiled zinc requires the same high quantity of solubilising, which causes the finished product to be sticky.
- This problem is now solved by this invention proposing a deodorising composition for fabrics, which provides for the use of a castor-oiled zinc based component in a quantity not higher than 1%.
- This invention will be described in details by way of example but without any limitation thereto, with reference to the following:
- The deodorising composition for fabrics according to the invention provides for the use, as basis component, the castor-oiled zinc.
- In particular the composition according to the invention provides for the following formulation, wherein the quantities of the various components are expressed in weight:
- castor-oiled zinc
from 0.05% to 1% and preferably from 0.1% to 0.3%; - polyethoxyled hydrogenated castor oil with 40 moles
of ethylene oxide
from 1% to 10%, preferably from 1% to 3%; - denatured ethyl alcohol
from 4% to 60% and preferably from 10% to 30% - perfume
from 0.05% to 2% and preferably from 0.05% to 1%; - terpene mixture
from 0.05% to 5% and preferably from 0.005% to 1%; - diethylene triamine pentamethylene phosphonic acid
sodium salt,
solution 32%;
from 0.02% to 3% and preferably from 0.02% to 1%; - demineralised water
q.s. 100%; - citric acid
q.s. at pH 5-7 and preferably at pH 6. - The castor-oiled zinc is commercialised e.g. by the firm Goldschmidt under "Tegosorb" trademark; the hydrogenated castor oil is available with the trademark "Cremophor RH 40" of the company Basf; the terpene mixture can be represented e.g. by the product "Citrosolv F1" of the firm Moillhausen; the diethylene triamine pentamethylene phosphonic acid, sodium salt can be represented e.g. by the product commercialised under "SEQUION 40 Na 32" trademark of the firm Bozzetto.
- The various tests carried out allowed to establish that the optimum results are reached by the following compositions:
- castor-oiled zinc 0.2%
- polyethoxyled hydrogenated castor oil with 40 moles of ethylene oxide 2%
- denatured ethyl alcohol 20%
- perfume 0.5%
- terpene mixture 0.1%
- diethylene triamine pentamethylene phosphonic acid, sodium salt solution 32% 0.06%
- demineralised water 77.14%
- citric water q.s. pH 6
- For the preparation of the compound it is possible to proceed as follows:
- mix castor-oiled zinc with polyethoxyled hydrogenated castor oil, shaking with energy.
-
- Add the mixture to denatured ethyl alcohol, adding afterwards the perfume and the terpene mixture, mixing carefully until you reach a liquid and homogeneous solution.
- It is then possible to add about one third of the demineralised water provided for by the formulation and afterwards the sodium diethylene triamine pentamethylene phosphonic acid, sodium salt.
- Mix, add the remaining demineralised water and finally add citric acid up to pH6.
- All these operations can be carried out at ambient temperature.
- The result is a watery solution that can be directly sprayed on the fabrics.
- The castor-oiled zinc carries out an efficacious neutralising action of the smells absorbed by the fabric, while the other components, in particular the terpene and perfume mixture give off a delicate scent.
- The use of a smaller amount of castor oiled zinc active ingredient as regards the known compositions guarantees a lesser dry residue and consequently a lesser residue on the tissue surfaces; a residue that should be visible in particular on dark or plain tissues, with unpleasant aesthetic effects. Furthermore, the fact to use a smaller amount of castor oiled zinc allows as a consequence to use also a lesser quantity of solubilising, by reducing in a remarkable way the typical stickiness of this kind of products.
- The use of the polyethoxyled hydrogenated castor oil at the place of an anionic surfactant guarantees further an additional action of "smell capture" to those smells which are not captured by the castor oiled zinc
- The addition of the perfume to the composition is optional since the castor-oiled zinc carries out an efficacious neutralising action of the smells already sufficient in itself to achieve the purpose.
