Definitions
- the invention relates to a sheet of paper, in particular a absorbent sheet of crepe cellulose wadding, having an embossing pattern.
- the invention relates in particular to a sheet of paper, consisting in particular of at least one fold of absorbent paper in creped cellulose wadding, intended for wiping in household, domestic or industrial use, i.e. can be used as a paper towel, cloth etc.
- embossing gives bulk to the sheet and it induces improved absorption of liquids, touch and sweetness.
- We tried to further increase the capacity absorption by creating multilayer sheets obtained by associating at least two layers, also called folds, made up each of at least one of said embossed sheets.
- the first is known in the field under the designation "nested" or interlocking. It consists, first, of embossing each folds separately so as to form on the surface protrusions generally substantially frustoconical or in pyramid trunks. Then we put glue on the top protrusions of one of the folds, and the folds are arranged so that the faces having the protrusions face each other, the protuberances of one between the protuberances of the other. We finally assemble the folds so that the protrusions having been glued come to fit between the protrusions of the other fold. So the two folds are linked by glue dots between the vertices of the protrusions of a fold and non- embossed between the protrusions of the other fold.
- the second method of assembly is known in the field under the designation spikes / spikes. It differs from the previous by the relative arrangement of the two folds. These, after they have have been embossed separately, are brought together so that to make the vertices of the protrusions coincide. The folds are linked between them by the tops of the protrusions, points against tips. This technique is illustrated by the patent US Patent 3,414,459.
- each of these protuberances is of generally frustoconical shape, each truncated cone being formed by a homologous spike belonging to an embossing cylinder.
- Each pin engraved on the cylinder has a vertex angle less than or equal to 60 ° giving a generally pointed shape.
- the height of the pins is for example between 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm, the choice of this total height being a compromised according to the density of the pins which is a function reverse of the height of the pins.
- the macro-protuberances constituting the main decorative motif have a density of less than 20 protuberances per cm 2 and are combined with the micro-protrusions of the background motif which have a density of more than 30 per cm 2 and preferably greater than or equal to 40 per cm 2 .
- Embossing increasing the overall thickness of the sheet, leads to improved absorption of liquids, but also its flexibility due to the rupture of part of the bonds between the fibers of the cellulose wadding. Embossing thus generally results in a loss of resistance to tear.
- the sheet may contain additives which give it resistance to the tear which is increased, especially in the wet state.
- the embossing is also more marked because we want to obtain a higher capacity absorption.
- the invention aims to propose an improved design of a embossed sheet having at least one fold with a background pattern to micro-protrusions and allowing in particular, but not only, its association with a pattern with macro-protuberances.
- the invention aims to improve performance and technical characteristics of the sheet in the case of a association of micro-protuberances and macro-protuberances, and improve the final appearance of the sheet by doing better appear the pattern with macro-protuberances which, depending on the state of the technique, is "embedded” in the background pattern and is greatly “flattened” by preventing more to find the relief and the effect fleece.
- the invention provides an embossed sheet composed of at least one ply of creped cellulose wadding weighing between 12 and 30 g / m 2 of the type comprising an embossing pattern comprising at least a first series of protuberances formed projecting on one side of the fold and whose density is greater than 20 protuberances per cm 2 , characterized in that each protuberance of the first series comprises a base in the form of a polyhedron trunk and a flat end section flattened with edges rounded.
- the invention also provides an engraved cylinder for the embossing of at least one fold belonging to an embossed sheet according to the invention, of the type comprising a series of pins for form the protrusions belonging to said first series, characterized in that each pin has a base in shape of polyhedron trunk and a flattened free end section.
- the invention also provides a method of manufacturing a sheet according to the invention, characterized in that it consists in embossing a first ply of cellulose wadding on a cylinder engraved according to the background pattern according to the invention so as to increase its thickness of less than 50%, then embossing said fold according to said main motif.
- Said fold can be associated with at least one second fold which can be embossed beforehand.
- Figure 1 an embodiment of a complex sheet of embossed paper, which here is a sheet of paper made up of two folds, upper 12 and lower 14, which are assembled according to the known technique in so-called “Nested” mode.
- Each fold of absorbent paper is made of cellulose wadding crêpe and sheet 10 is intended for all types of products hygiene or cleaning.
- the cellulose wadding whose grammage is between 12 and 30 g / m 2 , is preferably of the type obtained by conventional wet pressing, known as CWP.
- the sheet of paper shown in Figure 1 is for example intended to be incorporated into a paper towel roll.
- the lower fold 14 is a fold produced in accordance with teachings of the invention and in this embodiment there has a background pattern consisting of micro-protrusions 16 and a main motif, consisting of a series of macro-protuberances 18.
- the design and density of microprotrusions 14 arranged in regular pattern gives the bottom of the fold 14 a textile appearance, while the macro-protuberances 18 are here arranged in regular pattern, especially in the form of concentric circles.
- the background pattern is arranged between the alignments forming the main reason. In particular the background pattern fills the area between two concentric circles. The space between two adjacent macro-protrusions along the alignments forming the circles does not have micro-protrusions of the pattern background, visible.
- the number of macro-protuberances is less than 20 per cm 2 . It allows the association of folds in "Nested" mode. In this case, it is preferably between 5 and 15 per cm 2 , and more particularly between 5 and 9.
- connection between the fold upper 12 and the lower fold 14 is preferably obtained by collage of the vertices 22 of the macro-protrusions 18 with parts of the internal face, here lower, facing 24 and 26 of the top fold 12.
- each protrusion 16 of the bottom pattern of the lower fold 14 comprises a base in the form of a polyhedron trunk 28 and a section flattened free end 30 with rounded edges.
- micro-protrusions 16 are obtained by embossing the lower fold 14 by means of a embossed embossing cylinder 32 with part of the surface external cylindrical convex 34 is illustrated schematically especially in Figure 3.
- the surface 34 comprises a series of pins 36 formed in relief and whose shape or external profile is homologous to that which one wishes to obtain for each corresponding protrusion 16 of the fold 14 of the sheet 10.
- pins 36 which are adjacent to each other and which, in the example shown, are all of the same shape and dimensions. Insofar as They are within the scope of the invention, pins can be provided of different shapes.
- Each pin 36 is here constituted by a base 38 in shape of a pyramid trunk with a rectangular base and a vertex or free end section 40 which is flattened.
- each pin 36 is delimited by two short sides 42 or widths 42, which here are parallel to the cross direction CD and by two long sides 44 (or lengths 44) which are here parallel to the direction of travel MD.
- Each pin 36 is delimited laterally by two small substantially trapezoidal opposite faces 46 whose base is a small side 42, and by two large opposite faces substantially trapezoidal 48 whose base is a long side 44.
- each substantially trapezoidal side face 46, 48 is inclined with respect to the height, or central axis A, of the pin 36, by an angle alpha which is here equal to about 45 °, that is to say that the half angle at the top of the base 38 in the shape of a pyramid trunk is here equal to 45 °.
- the free end section, or vertex 40 is generally a flat plane substantially perpendicular to the central axis A and it is preferably connected to the lateral faces triangular 46 and 48 by rounded edges 50.
- each pin 36 is approximately 0.6 mm while the width 42 of its rectangular base is equal to 1.4 mm and length 44 is 1.8 mm.
- the width of its top 40 which is of general shape rectangular in top view and as we can see on the Figure 4, is approximately 0.2 mm while the length of the vertex 40 is approximately 0.6 mm.
- all of the pins 36 are adjacent and are formed on the surface 34 in the form of series of pins aligned in the direction of travel MD.
- the pins 36 of a series are shifted in the running direction, that is to say here parallel to their length 44 by half a step, that is to say from the half the length 44 of the rectangular base of a pin 36, or here 1.8 mm, two vertices 40 of two consecutive pins and aligned belonging to the same series being of course spaced 1.8 mm.
- the density of the pins 36 is substantially equal to 40 pins per cm 2 .
- the inclination of the lateral faces 46 and 48 can be accentuated, by reducing the value of the alpha angle up to 30 °, this limit value remaining greater than the value of the half-angle at the top of a conventional frustoconical picot, much sharper.
- the angle remains between 35 ° and 45 °.
- the edges of the flat are rounded
- the radius R of each rounded edge, or fillet 50 is by example here equal to 0.5 mm.
- each pin 36 is globally identical to those mentioned above with reference to first embodiment but the pins, as can be see in figure 8, are aligned by series of adjacent pins by their widths 42, and this in the cross direction CD of the cylinder engraved 32.
- the dimensions of the vertex or free end 40 may be greater.
- each vertex, or free end can be a rectangular flat whose width is equal to 0.4 mm and the length 0.8 mm, the radius R of each rounded edge 50 being here substantially equal to 0.1 mm, while the height H and the other dimensions of widths 42 and lengths 44 are unchanged.
- the embossing of the background pattern i.e. the realization of the microprotrusions 16 using one of the engraved cylinders of the type of those represented in FIGS. 3 to 11, is produced with a moderate embossing pressure, i.e. by controlling the increase in total thickness of the fold 14 resulting from the embossing.
- This increase is preferably less than or equal to the initial thickness of the fold 14, that is to say of the cotton batting sheet creped cellulose before embossing.
- this increase in height is less than half the thickness of the sheet.
- the lower fold 14 has pins 16 whose height is between 0.05 mm and 0.5 mm.
- the fold which comes to be embossed to make the background pattern with microprotrusions 16 is then embossed again to make the main motif consisting of macro-protuberances in circles concentric 18.
- the embossing pressure is then sufficient to allow the formation of curved annular zones between the circles concentric.
- FIG. 12 There is shown schematically in Figure 12 a installation 60 for embossing and assembly with gluing of the two folds, upper 12 and lower 14, for the production of the complex sheet 10.
- the creped cellulose wadding sheet constituting the fold 12 passes first between a first cylinder etched 62 and an associated cylinder 64 for producing the motif embossing of this fold 12.
- the cylinder 64 can be coated rubber or the like, or with a rigid coating such as steel or paper, but it is then provided with cavities complementary to the protrusions of the engraved cylinder 62.
- the cellulose wadding sheet constituting the lower fold 14 passes first in a unit of micro-embossing 66 comprising the engraved cylinder 32 whose surface convex cylindrical engraved 34 conforms to the teachings of the invention and which cooperates with an associated cylinder 68 for the realization of the background pattern including micro-protrusions 16.
- the cylinder 68 is made of rubber.
- the fold 14 with its micro-embossing 16 then passes between a third engraved cylinder 70 whose engraving pattern corresponds to the formation of macro-protuberances in circles concentric 18 and which cooperates with a rubber cylinder partner 72.
- the lower fold 14 with its micro-embossing 16 and its macro-embossing 18 then passes next to the engraved cylinder upper 62 to allow the association of the two folds, being passed before in front of a gluing cylinder 74 belonging to a gluing unit 76, of known design, which deposits the glue on the highest level vertices compared to the cylinder 70.
- the visual aspect obtained for the fold comprising the motif of micro-embossed background and the main macro-embossed decoration motif, is significantly improved compared to a state product of technique without the background motif.
- the method was applied to a main motif composed of protuberances forming concentric circles.
- the background pattern occupies the space between circles and other elements concentric.
- the space between two protrusions adjacent on the circles themselves is insufficient to accommodate a micro-protuberance.
- those of the process we obtains a product whose surface seen from the background pattern side has the appearance of concentric raised rings forming O-rings.
- the first line gives the values of a sheet of two non-embossed pleats. These are the reference values. Measures were made according to standard standards in this area.
- the second line gives the values of a product A of the prior art, the two folds of which have been embossed with the sole main motif. It is a paper towel marketed under the brand "Okay” in France and presenting a pattern made up of concentric circles as in figure 2, but without the background pattern. Macro-protrusions are 7.6 on average per cm 2 .
- the third line gives the values of a product B produced according to the invention, that is to say with the same main embossing pattern as the product A above and the same embossing conditions, but with the same pattern according to the invention, distributed as in FIG. 2, and comprising 40 micro-protuberances per cm 2 .
- the resistance across the wet state was measured first of a product having a bottom embossing consisting of microprotrusions obtained on a cylinder whose pins are of frustoconical shape with an apex angle slightly less than 30 °.
- the density of the pins of the background pattern was 37 per cm 2 .
- the resistance in the wet cross direction of a product was measured with the pattern of the prior art A (7.6 macro-protuberances per cm 2 ).
- the wet strength of product B was measured produced in accordance with the invention.
- a sheet conforms to the invention is less rigid than a sheet with a simple pattern of main embossing. Rigidity can be estimated using a consumer panel test or using a well-founded model on measurements of appropriate physical parameters.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a sheet of paper, in particular a absorbent sheet of crepe cellulose wadding, having an embossing pattern.
The invention relates in particular to a sheet of paper, consisting in particular of at least one fold of absorbent paper in creped cellulose wadding, intended for wiping in household, domestic or industrial use, i.e. can be used as a paper towel, cloth etc.
In the field of papers for sanitary or domestic use such as toilet paper or paper towels, it is known to produce sheets of paper composed of several plies of absorbent paper, for example of cellulose wadding also called "tissue paper ", crepe of grammage between 12 and 30 g / m 2 , provided with protuberances which are obtained by embossing.
Indeed, the embossing gives bulk to the sheet and it induces improved absorption of liquids, touch and sweetness. We tried to further increase the capacity absorption by creating multilayer sheets obtained by associating at least two layers, also called folds, made up each of at least one of said embossed sheets.
Two modes of embossing and assembling the plies are commonly implemented according to the desired characteristics of the final product.
Cette technique est illustrée par le brevet US-A-3.867.225.The first is known in the field under the designation "nested" or interlocking. We realize a structure whose voids thus formed are suitable for ensuring the leaf improved absorption. In addition, the exterior faces have a smooth, fluffy feel due to the recessed areas formed by the back of the protuberances. This technique is illustrated by patent US-A-3,867,225.
Cette technique est illustrée par le brevet US-A-3.414.459.The second method of assembly is known in the field under the designation spikes / spikes.
When we consider the practical achievements of these structures, whether they are of the "nested" or point / point type, the protrusions obtained during embossing are most often made so as to be distributed according to a pattern.
In general, we know several types of patterns and / or combination of patterns.
In order to have a tissue paper with an appearance textile, it has in particular already been proposed to produce a pattern of bottom said to high density of protuberances.
Un exemple d'un tel produit est décrit et représenté dans le brevet EP-B1-0.426.548.An example of such a product is described and represented in the Patent EP-B1-0,426,548.
According to the various known embodiments of such a type of background pattern paper with high protuberance density, each of these protuberances is of generally frustoconical shape, each truncated cone being formed by a homologous spike belonging to an embossing cylinder. Each pin engraved on the cylinder has a vertex angle less than or equal to 60 ° giving a generally pointed shape.
The height of the pins is for example between 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm, the choice of this total height being a compromised according to the density of the pins which is a function reverse of the height of the pins.
With the particular aim of improving the appearance of the product, also proposed decorative patterns consisting of series of protrusions which are arranged at least in part according to curves, portions of curves or lines - or combinations of such portions of curves and / or lines. In in particular some of said portions are, at least partially, parallel to each other. In particular the protrusions form closed curves including circles or portions of circles, possibly concentric.
In document WO-A-93/12293, it has been proposed to associate these two types of patterns.
So, in this document, we propose a complex sheet involving the association of two folds, at least one of which is folded features a high density background pattern and small dimensions of the protrusions, also called "micro-embossing", and a main decorative motif consisting of series of protrusions of larger dimensions, and in particular more great height, also called "macro-embossing".
The macro-protuberances constituting the main decorative motif have a density of less than 20 protuberances per cm 2 and are combined with the micro-protrusions of the background motif which have a density of more than 30 per cm 2 and preferably greater than or equal to 40 per cm 2 .
Depending on the embossing conditions, such as pressure, the nature of the counter-cylinder (rubber or rigid) engraved, we produce products with macro-protuberances, by example of height between 0.5 and 2.5 millimeters, and micro-protuberances of height between 0.1 and 0.3 mm. These heights correspond to those that can be measured on the crease after embossing, not at the height of the pins of the engraved embossing cylinder.
Embossing, increasing the overall thickness of the sheet, leads to improved absorption of liquids, but also its flexibility due to the rupture of part of the bonds between the fibers of the cellulose wadding. Embossing thus generally results in a loss of resistance to tear.
For products intended for wiping and produced in crepe tissue paper of the "CWP" type (Conventional Wet Pressed), the sheet may contain additives which give it resistance to the tear which is increased, especially in the wet state.
In comparison to toilet paper, the embossing is also more marked because we want to obtain a higher capacity absorption.
The invention aims to propose an improved design of a embossed sheet having at least one fold with a background pattern to micro-protrusions and allowing in particular, but not only, its association with a pattern with macro-protuberances.
The invention aims to improve performance and technical characteristics of the sheet in the case of a association of micro-protuberances and macro-protuberances, and improve the final appearance of the sheet by doing better appear the pattern with macro-protuberances which, depending on the state of the technique, is "embedded" in the background pattern and is greatly "flattened" by preventing more to find the relief and the effect fleece.

In the description which follows, identical elements, similar or analogous will be designated by the same numbers reference. We will use, without limitation and to facilitate the description and understanding of the claims, a vertical orientation from bottom to top, especially considering the figure 1.
There is shown in Figure 1 an embodiment of a complex sheet of embossed paper, which here is a sheet of paper made up of two folds, upper 12 and lower 14, which are assembled according to the known technique in so-called "Nested" mode.
Each fold of absorbent paper is made of cellulose wadding

More specifically, the sheet of paper shown in Figure 1 is for example intended to be incorporated into a paper towel roll.

On observe

parallèle à l'axe de rotation du cylindre gravé 32.We indicated in Figure 3, by an arrow MD, the direction

Les bords du méplat sont arrondisThe inclination of the lateral faces 46 and 48 can be accentuated, by reducing the value of the alpha angle up to 30 °, this limit value remaining greater than the value of the half-angle at the top of a conventional frustoconical picot, much sharper.
The embossing of the background pattern, i.e. the realization of the

the initial thickness of the
Preferably, this increase in height is less than half the thickness of the sheet.
comprise entre 0,05 mm et 0,5 mm.After this embossing step with moderate pressure,

concentriques 18.As will be explained later, the fold which comes
to be embossed to make the background pattern with
The embossing pressure is then sufficient to allow the formation of curved annular zones between the circles concentric.

cylindre 70.
Finally, the two
The visual aspect obtained for the fold comprising the motif of micro-embossed background and the main macro-embossed decoration motif, is significantly improved compared to a state product of technique without the background motif.
In particular, the method was applied to a main motif composed of protuberances forming concentric circles. As shown in Figure 2, the background pattern occupies the space between circles and other elements concentric. However the space between two protrusions adjacent on the circles themselves is insufficient to accommodate a micro-protuberance. On this condition and those of the process we obtains a product whose surface seen from the background pattern side has the appearance of concentric raised rings forming O-rings.
In addition, tests have been carried out which show surprising that the tear resistance of such a product is not weaker than that of a product without this background pattern.
The results of these tests are summarized in the table below.
The first line gives the values of a sheet of two non-embossed pleats. These are the reference values. Measures were made according to standard standards in this area.
The second line gives the values of a product A of the prior art, the two folds of which have been embossed with the sole main motif. It is a paper towel marketed under the brand "Okay" in France and presenting a pattern made up of concentric circles as in figure 2, but without the background pattern. Macro-protrusions are 7.6 on average per cm 2 .
The third line gives the values of a product B produced according to the invention, that is to say with the same main embossing pattern as the product A above and the same embossing conditions, but with the same pattern according to the invention, distributed as in FIG. 2, and comprising 40 micro-protuberances per cm 2 .

The results show that product B according to the invention has a better distribution, direction and direction through.
Des essais comparatifs ont été réalisés.Comparative tests have been carried out.
Résistances, MD : 786 N/m, CD : 538 N/m
Résistance humide : CD 136 N/m.We produced three products from the same tissue paper with the following characteristics
Two ply weight: 45 G / m 2
Thickness: 0.20 mm for a two-ply sheet
Resistors, MD: 786 N / m, CD: 538 N / m
Wet strength: CD 136 N / m.
The resistance across the wet state was measured first of a product having a bottom embossing consisting of microprotrusions obtained on a cylinder whose pins are of frustoconical shape with an apex angle slightly less than 30 °. The density of the pins of the background pattern was 37 per cm 2 .
The resistance in the wet cross direction of a product was measured with the pattern of the prior art A (7.6 macro-protuberances per cm 2 ).
On a mesuré la résistance à l'état humide d'un produit B réalisé conformément à l'invention. The wet strength of product B was measured produced in accordance with the invention.
The values are 77, 67 and 75 N / m respectively. We therefore notes that the invention makes it possible to produce a product with a main motif and a background motif without compromising its resistance.
Finally, we note that for the same tissue paper of starting and equal strength and thickness, a sheet conforms to the invention is less rigid than a sheet with a simple pattern of main embossing. Rigidity can be estimated using a consumer panel test or using a well-founded model on measurements of appropriate physical parameters.
