Definitions
- the present invention relates generally to a sheet material transport apparatus, for example, for conveying newspapers, and more particularly to a sheet material transport apparatus having pockets moving along a path.
- the present invention further relates to such bags and a method for transporting such bags.
- US 5,911,416 describes a sheet material transport having a plurality of pockets movable along a path for receiving sheet material from sheet feeders. These pockets, for example, allow a first outer portion of a newspaper to be first deposited in the pockets by a first sheet material feeder, and then an inner portion of the newspaper to be sandwiched between the folds of the first outer portion of the newspaper.
- the apparatus described in US 5,911,416 uses a lifting cam to move a semicircular actuating gear such that a drive shaft is rotated in a manner to set a height for the rack-mounted feet of the bag.
- the opening of the pockets is prevented by a locking gear. Thereafter, the sheet material can be picked up and stored in the pockets.
- the locking gear can be released by a switching cam.
- the rack is lowered to a lower position, so that solve the feet through a drive cam.
- the sheet material can be removed in the pockets of these on the ground, to then be transported or stacked.
- US 5,251,888 describes movable pockets along an endless track.
- Each bag has two vertically adjustable stops attached to a pocket carrier are slidably mounted.
- a guide element is adjustable so that it can adjust the stops vertically as the pockets are moved along the endless track.
- the adjustment device of this application is manually operated by the operator, with the operator turning a gear knob and thereby setting a locking ring for a desired pocket height.
- Object of the present invention is to provide a less time-consuming, single-step adjustment device for each bag.
- the present invention comprises a sheet material transporting device including a plurality of pockets, each having an adjustment device for adjusting the height of the pockets to define a set height, the adjustment device comprising a control rod, a ring gear having its outer surface connected to the A control rod is connected, and one of the ring gear selectively releasable locking ring comprises, wherein the actuating rod comprises a release device for releasing the locking ring from the ring gear during a setting operation.
- the present invention makes it possible to adjust the pockets to a setting height by a single movement, for example by a sliding movement of the adjusting rod, and to operate continuously at this setting height. The operator does not need to set the lock ring.
- a reset station wherein this contains a movable, rising return ramp, which is then also adjusted to the new height and which may also have a locking device.
- Each pocket may include a rotatably connected to the ring gear slidable gear, which may optionally be released from the lock ring, so that in this way an optional release of the ring gear is made possible by the lock ring.
- the lock ring is preferably a single-tooth ratchet, which pocket preferably includes a pawl that constantly engages the lock ring except when the bottom of the bag is open during the release operation.
- the actuator rod preferably has two predetermined height-marking notches that allow the operator to set the height settings of the pockets to two different values, for example 26.5 cm (10.5 inches) and 30.5 cm (12th and 12th inch) sheet material Inch). But it can also be provided on the adjusting rod and other height settings.
- the notches may cooperate with a ball lock provided in the rod support, which rod support is connected to the pocket wall.

- Each pocket 10 includes fingers 90 which define the height of the bag, one for individual adjustment of the height Height adjustment device 8 and provided for the height adjustment device 8 releasable locking device. 9
- each pocket 10 can be manually adjusted by means of the adjustment device 8, with the fingers 90 receiving at least 26.5 cm (10.5 inches) from a starting position, for example, of at least one of two desired heights to be moved.
- the pockets 10 are in the resting state, wherein the adjustment can also be made outside the adjustment range, for example by operators moving along the track 101.
- Another possibility is to drive the pockets into the adjustment area, stop the device and adjust each pocket.
- a robot interacting with the adjustment device may be disposed on the adjustment section 1 to move each bag to the proper height when a bag is conveyed and stopped in the adjustment section 1.
- the adjustment device 8 is engaged with a locked locking device 9, as will be described with reference to FIGS. 8-10, so that the pocket fingers 90 remain stationary. Then, when all the pockets are set, the pockets 10 are set in motion and fed under a first feeding station 2 for sheet material, where to Example, a folded sheet 6, a newspaper or other printed matter is entered into the pockets 10. At an optionally existing second feeding station 3, a second sheet part can be entered into the cover sheet 6 to produce the finished inserted and gathered printed product 7.
- the pockets 10 can then be guided into a release station 4, which releases the locking device 9.
- the spring loaded adjuster 8 then releases the fingers 90 so that the bottom of the pockets 10 opens and the products 7 are dispensed onto a conveyor belt 11, for example.
- the bags 10 After the bags 10 have left the release station 4, they pass through a return station 5 containing a movable rising return ramp 25 which cooperates with a return cam follower 156 of the adjustment device 8 and a locking device 35 for locking the locking device 9.
- the pocket 10 has an upper rear wall 54, an upper front wall 52 and a side wall 44, with an opening 56 between the upper rear wall 54 and the upper front wall 52 for receiving sheet material.

- the fingers 90 are mounted on the rack 80 by means of a pivot pin 96 fixed to a first part 92 of the finger 90.
- a second portion 94 of the finger 90 serves to define a pocket bottom when the fingers 90 are in the closed position.
- the rack 80 includes a toothing 82 (FIG.
- the pinions 120 are arranged on a rotatably mounted in the walls 44 and 46 shaft 110.
- an end 111 of the shaft 110 is guided by an adjusting ring 140, of which only a first part in Fig. 3 is shown.
- the ring gear 140 has an inner surface which ensures that it is in a rotationally fixed relationship to a slidable gear 180 (FIG. 5), which in turn is non-rotatably connected to the shaft 110.
- the slidable gear 180 is axially displaceable with respect to the shaft 110 so as to be selectively mutually engaged with a lock ring 160 (visible inside the ring gear 140 and only in FIG. 4), the lock ring 160 being part of the lock device 9.
- the locking device 9 also includes a pawl 209 which cooperates with a single tooth on the outside of the ring 160.
- the ring gear 140 is shown only partially in Figures 2, 3 and 4, with a second outer toothed portion 182 ( Figure 5) serving to cooperate with a control rod (not shown).

- a return cam follower 156 mounted on an axle 154.
- the semicircular Einstelltechnikrad 150 is mounted on a spring 158, which biases the semicircular Einstelltechnikrad 150 in the direction 151, as can be seen in Fig. 2.
- Fig. 5 shows an exploded view of certain details of the adjustment device.
- the end 111 of the shaft 110 fits into the internally toothed bore 147 of the sliding gear 180, the end 111 passing through internal bores provided in the ring gear 140 and the locking ring 160.
- the end 111 is attached to a screw 145, which is supported by a spring 146 against the sliding gear 180.
- the slidable gear 180 can be moved against the force of the spring 146 in the direction of the arrow 240, whereby the displaceable gear 180 is axially displaceable with respect to the shaft 110, but always remains rotatably connected to the shaft 110.
- the displaceable gear 180 has an outer star toothing 141 which mates with an inner star toothing of the ring gear 140. In this way it is achieved that the sliding gear 180 and the ring gear 140 always rotate together. Inside the slidable gear 180 and the ring gear 140 is the locking ring 160, wherein the locking ring 160 via an inner star wheel 163 with an outer star wheel 141 of the sliding gear 180 is selectively connectable when the sliding gear 180 is not in the axial direction against the spring force the spring 146 is moved.
- the slidable gear 180 has a raised portion 142 which cooperates with a release device of a control rod to allow the slidable gear 180 to be moved against the spring force of the spring 146.
- the ring gear 140 has external teeth 181 for cooperation with the semicircular gear 150 (FIG. 2), as well as external teeth 182 which engage the actuator rod 250 (FIG. 8).
- the locking ring 160 is provided on an outer surface with a single tooth 164, which cooperates with the pawl 209, as shown in Fig. 7 can be seen.
- a projection 210 extends outwardly from the pawl 209 so that the pawl 209 is movable between upper and lower positions.
- the pawl may be biased by a spring so that it preferably assumes a position or jumps in each one of the two positions.
- Figs. 8, 9 and 10 show a setting operation using a first embodiment of the adjusting device 8 according to the present invention.
- a notch 251 of a control rod 250 cooperates with a ball lock 303 held in a first control rod support 301.
- the ball retainer 303 a spring-loaded ball, is biased to allow an operator to feel the adjustment, but does not prevent axial displacement of the adjustment rod 250 when sufficient force is applied to the adjustment rod 250.
- the operator may pull the setting bar 250 upwardly with respect to the holder 301 and onto a second holder 302, both holders being secured to a side wall 46 of the bag.
- teeth 254 are provided which cooperate with the teeth 182 of the ring gear 140.
- three of the teeth 254 may be partially or fully engaged with the teeth 182 such that the ring gear 140 is rotatable to rotate the shaft 110 and thus move the fingers 90.
- An upward movement of the control rod 250 moves the fingers 90 down and vice versa.
- the fingers are released and the bottom of the bag opens.
- a disengaging device 253 On one side of the control rod 250 is a disengaging device 253, which in the embodiment of FIG. 8 consists of a raised cam 253 which interacts with an inner surface of the raised portion 142 of the slidable gear 180.
- FIG. 11 illustrates this upward movement 241 which causes the ring gear 140 to move in the direction 242, thereby rotating the shaft 110 in the same direction, thereby retracting the rack 80 and fingers 90 (FIG. 2) be turned down.
- the locking ring 160 and pawl 209 remain stationary, allowing a correct re-adjustment of the height at the recovery station 5 ( Figure 1).
- the rising ramp 25 of the station 5 is also reset when changing the pocket height.
- Fig. 10 it is shown that the second setting is reached when a second notch 252 has arrived at the ball lock 303. At the same time, the cam 253 releases the slidable gear 180, so that the lock ring 160 is again engaged with the slidable gear 180.
- Figs. 8-11 for easy manual change of pocket height provides a single one-step adjustment device.
- the simple push-pull movement is ideally suited for the interposition of a robot.
- a robotic arm can be used to adjust in station 1 the pocket height of each pocket. For this each bag is transported, then stopped, and the control rod 250 is gripped by the robot arm to move the control rod by a predetermined distance.
- the control rod may be provided with a fine adjustment device 260, which consists of a type of adjusting screw, by means of which the distance between the notches 251, 252 on the one hand and the cam 253 on the other hand can be changed.
- the operator holds the lower part of the adjusting rod 250 with one hand and rotates the upper part of the adjusting rod 250 so as to change the distance.
- the upper part of the adjusting rod 250 has a screw and the lower end a sliding nut and a stationary housing to allow fine adjustment with one hand. Between the two parts may also be provided a tension spring to oppose the screwing force.
- Fig. 12 shows the release station 4, which moves the pawl 209 of the locking device 9 down to an unlocked position when a bag passes through the station 4 in the direction 17.
- the pawl 209 is moved away from the tooth 164.
- locking ring 160 moves counterclockwise ( Figure 7). This counterclockwise movement occurs in the direction of the spring bias of the semi-circular gear 150 in the direction 151 (FIG. 2), whereby the semicircular gear 150 is rotated counterclockwise (FIG. 2).
- the pockets 10 Upon release, the pockets 10 are in a position A, as shown in FIG. 13, with the return cam 156 in an up position. As the bag 10 passes the return station 5, the return cam 156 is lowered by the ascending ramp 25 to the originally set position B pressed. Since the reset ramp 25 is set to the correct height, the single tooth 164 of the locking ring 160 is in the correct position at the bottom of the ramp 25, so that a locking device 35 moves the projection 210 of the pawl 209 upwards and engages the tooth 164. Thus, the pockets 10 have been correctly returned to the closed position so that further continuous operation can be performed along the track 101 without requiring further stop or stoppage.
- the reset ramp 25 should preferably be set to the height corresponding to the common pocket height of all pockets.
- the reset ramp 25 can be moved in increments in the direction 225. In this way, the reset ramp 25 can be brought into a position corresponding to a newly set pocket height for all pockets 10.
- the dashed line in Fig. 13 shows a second position of the return ramp, which corresponds to a new pocket height.
- the cam 156 is not led down so far, so that the fingers are not lifted up so far, whereby the pocket height (depth) is greater, so that, for example, the height for folded products of 30.4 cm (12 inches) instead of the 26.5 cm (10.5 inches) previously folded products.
- the pawl 209 does not directly engage the single tooth. Thus, the ring rotates until the pawl engages the single tooth. This rotation may damage the lock ring 160 (if the ramp is set too low), or it may set a wrong pocket height (if the ramp is set too high).
- the control rod 250 at each pocket 10 may be moved to one of the two positions defined by the notches in which the ball 303 is either in the notch 251 or 252 engages, wherein the pawl 209 engages the locking ring 160. It should be the same setting for each bag 10. In this way, all pockets 10 are locked in the desired set height. The Rising ramp 25 is then adjusted so that its height corresponds to the common height of the pockets.
- the pockets 10 then pick up the sheet material from the feed stations 2 and 3. To release the bags pass through the release station 4, this causes the latch 209 dissolves, so that the fingers move downwards and thus release the ordered or assembled sheet material 7.
- the pockets are then returned to the reset station 5 by the return cam 156, as it moves down the ramp 25 to bring the fingers 90 to the correct height.
- the locking device 35 then returns the latch 209 to lock the locking ring 160 and lock the fingers at the correct height.
- the operation of the device can be continued in the set height. If a new adjustment height is required, the system is stopped and the new height is set for all pockets 10 and the ascending ramp 25.
- the adjusting rod is used for setting a plurality of different heights.
- annular teeth 354 are provided which cooperate with the teeth 182 of the ring gear 140 to set a pocket height analogous to the first embodiment.
- the disengaging device is a cam blade 353 that engages between the ring gear 140 and the raised portion 142 of the slidable gear 180.
- the star toothing 141 releases the locking ring 160 (which is held in position by a pawl) as shown in FIG.
- the control rod 350 can then be pushed up and down in a variety of positions to change the pocket height become. Thereafter, the actuator rod 350 may be rotated back in the direction opposite to the direction 351 (or pushed back by the action of the spring 146, with the spring pushing the sliding gear 180 in the opposite direction to the direction 240) to lock the new pocket height.
- a display device for example, provided on the semicircular Einstelltechnikrad 150, can indicate the actual position of the pocket height.
- FIGS. 17 and 18 show another embodiment with a two-bar variant including rods 850 and 860.
- the rod 850 is a cam bar having a cam 851 similar to the cam 253 for disengaging a star wheel 801 from the lock ring 160.
- the rod 850 moving up and down with respect to the brackets 853 and 854 alone serves to disengage the star wheel 801 by causing the cam 851 to push the star wheel 801 to the left in FIG.
- the rod 860 is hinged in a rotary bearing 861 control rod, wherein the pivot bearing is connected to the pocket wall 46.
- the rod 860 has a lower end 863 and a worm gear 864.
- the lower end 863 is movable in the bracket 862 fixed to the wall 46, the bracket 862 having a slot in which the lower end 863 can move between two positions.
- the worm gear 864 of the rod 860 In the position where the worm gear 864 of the rod 860 is engaged, it is engaged with the semicircular adjusting gear 150.
- the semicircular adjustment gear 150 can be moved by the worm gear 864 such that a pocket height can be adjusted.
- the operator may rotate the control rod 860 in the pivot 861, as indicated by the arrows 870 and 872.
- the worm gear 864 releases the adjustment gear 150, and the rod 860 can be locked in the disengaged position.
- the rod 850 can be moved such that the cam 851 no longer acts on the star wheel 801, so that the star wheel 801 engages the locking ring 160 again.
- the bags can be conveyed and reset. This embodiment has the advantage that the rods 850 and 860 need not be moved during the reset step.
- stamp is defined herein to include any cams configured to move a cam follower in a desired direction.
- ratchet or “single tooth” is defined herein to include any type of stop for a pawl or a pawl-like device.
- Locking ring is defined herein to include any locking device.

The present invention relates generally to a sheet material transport apparatus, for example, for conveying newspapers, and more particularly to a sheet material transport apparatus having pockets moving along a path. The present invention further relates to such bags and a method for transporting such bags.
US 5,911,416 describes a sheet material transport having a plurality of pockets movable along a path for receiving sheet material from sheet feeders. These pockets, for example, allow a first outer portion of a newspaper to be first deposited in the pockets by a first sheet material feeder, and then an inner portion of the newspaper to be sandwiched between the folds of the first outer portion of the newspaper.
The apparatus described in US 5,911,416 uses a lifting cam to move a semicircular actuating gear such that a drive shaft is rotated in a manner to set a height for the rack-mounted feet of the bag. The opening of the pockets is prevented by a locking gear. Thereafter, the sheet material can be picked up and stored in the pockets.
To deliver the sheet material, then the locking gear can be released by a switching cam. By a biasing spring, the rack is lowered to a lower position, so that solve the feet through a drive cam. Thus, the sheet material can be removed in the pockets of these on the ground, to then be transported or stacked.
US 5,251,888 beschreibt entlang einer Endlosbahn bewegbare Taschen. Each bag has two vertically adjustable stops attached to a pocket carrier are slidably mounted. A guide element is adjustable so that it can adjust the stops vertically as the pockets are moved along the endless track.
These patents do not include adjustment devices directly on the pockets for adjusting the pockets in their resting state.
Patent Application No. 09 / 662,277 entitled "Sheet material conveying apparatus with individually adjustable pockets", filed on Sep. 14, 2000, describes a variety of manually adjustable ones Bags, each of these pockets having an adjustment device for adjusting the pocket height. The adjustment device of this application is manually operated by the operator, with the operator turning a gear knob and thereby setting a locking ring for a desired pocket height.
Object of the present invention is to provide a less time-consuming, single-step adjustment device for each bag.
This object is achieved by a device having the features of
The present invention comprises a sheet material transporting device including a plurality of pockets, each having an adjustment device for adjusting the height of the pockets to define a set height, the adjustment device comprising a control rod, a ring gear having its outer surface connected to the A control rod is connected, and one of the ring gear selectively releasable locking ring comprises, wherein the actuating rod comprises a release device for releasing the locking ring from the ring gear during a setting operation.
The present invention makes it possible to adjust the pockets to a setting height by a single movement, for example by a sliding movement of the adjusting rod, and to operate continuously at this setting height. The operator does not need to set the lock ring.
Furthermore, a reset station is provided, wherein this contains a movable, rising return ramp, which is then also adjusted to the new height and which may also have a locking device.
Each pocket may include a rotatably connected to the ring gear slidable gear, which may optionally be released from the lock ring, so that in this way an optional release of the ring gear is made possible by the lock ring.
The lock ring is preferably a single-tooth ratchet, which pocket preferably includes a pawl that constantly engages the lock ring except when the bottom of the bag is open during the release operation.
The actuator rod preferably has two predetermined height-marking notches that allow the operator to set the height settings of the pockets to two different values, for example 26.5 cm (10.5 inches) and 30.5 cm (12th and 12th inch) sheet material Inch). But it can also be provided on the adjusting rod and other height settings. For example, the notches may cooperate with a ball lock provided in the rod support, which rod support is connected to the pocket wall. Preferably, a second rod holder is provided.
The disengaging device of the control rod preferably includes at least one raised cam member which displaces the slidable gear outwardly with respect to the locking ring. In this way, the lock ring is released from the slidable gear so that it can rotate with respect to the ring gear and the slidable gear. The locking ring is then held by the pawl in the locked state, while the control rod by turning the ring gear, the pockets adjusted to a different height. If reached this new height, the cam member no longer acts on the sliding gear, so that it is brought back by the action of a spring with the locking ring into engagement to lock the pockets in the newly set height.
The control rod may include a fine adjustment, for example by the action of an arranged between two rod parts screw.
In a second embodiment according to the present invention, which allows continuous adjustment of different heights, the control rod can be serrated and rotatable, the disengagement device having an axially extending cam blade disposed between a starwheel and the locking ring. By rotating the control rod, the cam blade moves the sliding gear so that the locking ring is released. Thus, when an operator wants to change the pocket height, he rotates the control rod to release the slidable gear and then moves the control rod axially to change the pocket height.
The ring gear preferably has a first outer toothed portion which engages a spring biased semicircular gear and a second outer toothed portion which engages the setting rod. The ring gear is rotatably connected via an inner star wheel with the sliding gear, wherein the sliding gear rotatably connected to the shaft through which the pocket height can be adjusted. The locking ring also encloses the shaft, wherein the displaceable gear can selectively engage with the locking ring by the sliding gear is axially displaced with respect to the shaft. When the locking ring engages the slidable gear, then both elements perform a common rotational movement. When the slidable gear is released from the lock ring by sliding the slidable gear using a cam or a cam blade, the lock ring is freely rotatable about the shaft, whereas the slidable gear remains rotationally fixed with respect to the shaft and the ring gear.
The semi-circular gear is preferably spring biased in one direction, causing the fingers to fall to the bottom of the bag and trigger release. The release of the pawl and thus the locking ring in the release station causes in this way the release of the sheet material in the bag by the fingers.
The present invention further provides a sheet material bag; the sheet material pocket comprises a first wall and a second wall spaced therefrom which together define a sheet material receiving area, at least one finger movable with respect to the first wall defining a pocket bottom, the at least one finger being releasable to open the pocket bottom, a shaft connected to move the at least one finger therewith, a slidable gear that is rotationally fixed and axially displaceable with respect to the shaft, a ring gear that is rotationally fixed with respect to the slidable gear, and a lock ring that is optional engageable with the slidable gear.
Preferably, a slidable control rod meshes with the ring gear and includes a disengagement device. In a first embodiment, the disengaging device includes a raised cam to move the slidable gear, whereas in a second embodiment the disengaging device comprises a cam blade actuated by rotation of the control rod.
The control rod is preferably arranged displaceably in a first and a second holder, wherein these holders are firmly connected to the first wall. One of the first and second retainers may include a ball lock cooperating with adjustment notches provided in the control rod, these notches corresponding to different pocket heights. Preferably, at least two Einstellkerben are provided.
- Moving a rod while the bag is at rest to move the fingers of the bag to adjust the bag to a set height,
- Moving a gear through the rod in the axial direction, whereby the gear in this way solves a locking mechanism which remains stationary during the adjustment, and
- the re-engagement of the gear in the locking mechanism.
The actuating rod is moved between at least two predetermined positions, wherein preferably a ball detent in the rod holder engages in a notch on the rod.
The moving step preferably includes the use of a raised cam to axially displace the gear. The gear is preferably a slidable gear which cooperates with a ring gear, wherein the ring gear meshes with the rod.
Alternatively, the step of moving may include rotating the rod whereby a cam leaf shifts the gear away from a locking ring of the locking mechanism.
The term "rod" is defined herein to include any elongate member. As used herein, the term "slidable gear" is specifically defined to include any slidable coupling element, and may further include gears having outer star teeth, an outer single longitudinal key or tooth, or any other type to which a ring gear may be non-rotatably connected a locking ring is selectively attachable or is rotatable therefrom, wherein an element has a Kugelarretierungsmechanismus.

In an
After a pocket has been adjusted to a desired height, the
The
After the
In Fig. 2, 3 and 4, the
Die Freigabe der Finger 90 ist ähnlich der Freigabe der Füße in US 5,911,416.As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the
As shown in Fig. 4, the
Fig. 5 shows an exploded view of certain details of the adjustment device. The
The
The
The
The
Figs. 8, 9 and 10 show a setting operation using a first embodiment of the adjusting
At a lower end of the
On one side of the
As a result, when the
As the
In Fig. 10 it is shown that the second setting is reached when a
By adjusting
The embodiment of Figs. 8-11 for easy manual change of pocket height provides a single one-step adjustment device. In addition, the simple push-pull movement is ideally suited for the interposition of a robot. Thus, a robotic arm can be used to adjust in
The control rod may be provided with a
Fig. 12 shows the
Upon release, the
The
If the ramp is not set to the correct reset height, then the
The operation of the
The
The pockets are then returned to the reset station 5 by the
Thus, the operation of the device can be continued in the set height. If a new adjustment height is required, the system is stopped and the new height is set for all
Eine Anzeigevorrichtung, die zum Beispiel auf dem halbkreisförmigen Einstellzahnrad 150 vorgesehen ist, kann die Ist-Stellung der Taschenhöhe anzeigen.14, 15 and 16 show a side view, a front view and a bottom view of a second embodiment in which the adjusting rod is used for setting a plurality of different heights. At a lower end of the
