Abstract

Locking system for a roll-up awning, consisting of a roll-up tube (2) provided in an awning case (1), and whereby the free extremity of the awning cloth (3) is connected to a front profile (5) and, between this latter and the awning case, spring-biased folding arms are provided, characterized in that a locking bar (6), which is adjustable in height, is provided on the front profile (5), which locking bar can cooperate with a stop (9) on the awning case (1), and in that on the exterior periphery of the roll-up tube (2), at least one stop (10) is provided which can cooperate with a rocking lever (11) which, in its turn, can effect on the locking bar (6).

Description

  • This invention relates to a locking system for a roll-up awning, whereby the winding, unwinding, respectively, of the awning is performed electrically.
  • More particularly, the present invention relates to a locking system for an awning whereby the awning cloth can be released automatically from the awning case in a very simple manner, such that it can be rolled off, and whereby the locking of the awning cloth in respect to the awning case also takes place automatically and in a very simple manner.
  • Automatic locking systems for roll-up awnings are already known, however, these latter exclusively are provided for being used with manually operated awnings.
  • An example of such known awning can be found in the European patent No. 0.355.527.
  • With an awning construction according to said patent, the actual awning cloth is rolled up on a shaft or tube with which, on one hand, a winding rod can cooperate and on which, on the other hand, stops are provided which can command a locking mechanism which allows to hold back the awning cloth completely rolled up in the awning case.
  • When, as intended in accordance with the present invention, an electrically controlled roll-up awning is applied, such locking mechanism, however, can not be applied, as in this case the electric motor is provided in a roll-up tube and is connected thereto in a suitable manner, in order to ensure the drive of this roll-up tube, in such a manner that the extremity of such roll-up tube, formed by the electric drive motor, so to speak is immobile and therefore can not be provided with the aforementioned stops which can cooperate with a locking mechanism according to this EP 0.355.527.
  • Thus, the present invention has as an object a locking system which can be applied with manually as well as electrically controlled awnings.
  • More particularly, the present invention relates to a locking system for roll-up awnings of the type consisting of a roll-up tube which is provided in an awning case and whereby the free extremity of the awning cloth is connected to a front profile which is fixed at the awning case by means of spring-biased folding arms.
  • This locking system according to the invention substantially consists in that that a locking bar, which is adjustable in height, is provided at the front profile, which locking bar can cooperate with a stop at the awning case, and that at least one stop is provided on the exterior periphery of the roll-up tube, which stop can cooperate with a rocking lever which in its turn can effect on said locking bar.
  • With the intention of better showing the characteristics of the invention, hereafter, as an example without any limitative character, a preferred form of embodiment of a locking system is described, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
  • Figure 1 schematically represents a cross-section of an awning which is provided with a locking system according to the invention;
  • figure 2 is a view similar to that of figure 1, however, with the locking system in unlocked condition;
  • figure 3 is a view similar to that of figure 1, however, for a practical form of embodiment;
  • figure 4 is a view similar to that of figure 3, with the locking system in unlocked condition;
  • figure 5 is a view similar to that of figure 4, however, with the awning cloth in rolled-off condition.
  • In figure 1, an awning case 1 is represented in which a hollow roll-up shaft 2 or roll-up tube is provided, on which the awning cloth 3 is rolled up.
  • The free extremity of the awning cloth 3 is seated in a rod 4 or such, which is suitably connected to the front profile 5 which, in rolled-up condition of the awning, rests against the awning case 1 and thus closes off this latter.
  • The front profile 5 is connected to the awning case 1 in a known manner, by means of not-represented folding arms which are provided with springs, the purpose of which is to push away the front profile 5 from the awning case 1, in order to roll off the awning cloth 3 in an efficiently supported manner and with a well-defined inclination.
  • According to the present invention, a locking bar 6 is connected to the front profile 5, vertically movable in respect to the awning case 1, for example, by means of elements 7 and 8 which form a guide element for the locking bar 6, and at the awning case 1, an inwardly directed rib is provided, which rib forms a stop 9 with which the locking bar 6 can cooperate.
  • At the exterior periphery of the hollow roll-up shaft or roll-up tube 2, in this case, a protrusion or stop 10 is provided and, between this stop 10 and the locking bar 6, a rocking lever 11 is provided which can hinge around a pivot 12.
  • This locking system, as described by means of figure 1, can be unlocked from the locked position of this figure 1 by means of the roll-up tube 2, by actuating the built-in electric motor, as a result of which one obtains that, in the first place, the stop 10 will effect onto the rocking lever 11, as represented in figure 2, in such a manner that the locking bar 6 is pushed downward and is released from the stop 9.
  • At that moment, the force exerted onto the front panel 5 by said folding arms will provide for that the awning cloth 3 is rolled off in a suitable manner, whereby the locking bar 6 passes below the stop 9 in order to be brought back into the highest position when having passed said stop 9, as represented in figure 1, under the influence of a spring 13 provided below the locking bar 6.
  • When the awning cloth is rolled up again, the inclined surface 14 of the locking bar 6 facing the awning case will contact against the lower edge of the stop 9, as, in the highest position of the locking bar 6, the inclined surface 14 is situated in front of the stop 9, as a consequence of which the locking bar 6 is pushed down in order to take up, under the effect of spring 13, its highest position as soon as it has passed the stop 9, as represented in figure 1, thereby rendering the awning cloth 3, on one hand, and the front profile 5, on the other hand, immobile in respect to the awning case 1.
  • Hereby, the lever 11 either may rest on the locking bar 6 due to its own weight, or may be moved towards the locking bar 6 by means of a spring.
  • In figures 3 to 5, a practical form of embodiment of a locking system according to the invention is represented.
  • In this embodiment, the roll-up tube 2 is provided with two stops 10 which each can cooperate with the rocking lever 11.
  • This latter is provided with a heightened extremity 15 resting on the stop 9 when the awning cloth 3 is rolled off, whereby this stop 9 preferably will be realized in synthetic material in order to keep the friction with the tent cloth 3, on one hand, and the locking bar 6, on the other hand, as low as possible.
  • In this case, the locking bar 6 passes through an opening 16 in the front profile 5, whereby a groove 17 is provided in the locking bar 6, by which groove the locking bar 6 is guided over the body of a screw 18 and whereby the cooperation of this groove 17 with the screw body 18 also determines the highest position of the locking bar 6.
  • The use and the working of the embodiments according to figures 3 to 5 are identical to those described heretofore by means of figures 1 and 2.
  • Thus, a very simple locking system is obtained which is automatically effected when the awning cloth is rolled up and automatically is made ineffective when the awning cloth is rolled off.
  • It is obvious that the present invention is in no way limited to the locking system described heretofore and represented in the accompanying drawings, which locking system can be realized in a variety of forms and dimensions, without leaving the scope of the invention.
  • It is also clear that such locking system can be applied at any kind of awning.
