Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for controlling the display of a multimedia document. It applies for example to terminals of communication, or more precisely to radiocommunication terminals, of handheld computers or any other device that may have capabilities multimedia and for which we do not know the dimensions of its screen display.
- multimedia file generally refers to the integration of data of different types (such as images, sound, text or others) in a same file.
- Each type of data is contained in a given track.
- Each track is organized as a series of commands.
- Each track is processed by a different microprocessor.
- Each microprocessor runs at the same time than others, commands and can present data, through different interfaces (microphone for sound type data and display screen for image or text data), to a user of a device with capacity multimedia.
- Data intended to be displayed on a screen and belonging to different tracks should appear in different areas of the screen. These zones are also called video zones.
- the display of these video zones can be carried out according to the technique used by the Apple company or the Microsoft company. This technique is used to display all data on a computer screen.
- FIG. 1 represents a screen of a computer using this display technique.
- Screen 10 must display a multimedia file composed of two tracks, one containing image type data intended to be displayed in a first zone 20 and the other containing text type data intended to be displayed in a second zone 30.
- HTML HyperText Markup Language
- the purpose of the present invention is therefore to display different video zones in respecting their original presentation and the display of all information that they understand.
- Figure 1 previously described, shows a computer screen and a state of the art display technique.
- FIG. 2 represents two video zones defined according to the invention.
- Figure 3 shows the two-dimensional positioning of the zones video.
- Figure 4 shows an example of positioning a video area by compared to another.
- FIG. 5 represents an example of positioning of a video zone by report to another including a cursor.
- zone A two video zones, zone A and zone B respectively, are represented.
- Figure 3 shows the two-dimensional positioning of the zones video.
- a location relationship is used.
- the second zone is positioned relative to the first so-called reference zone following this location relationship.
- This location relationship is defined by several criteria including a sense of positioning along one of the different intersecting axes at the same point P. These axes have four different directions, each having two opposite directions.
- the vertical direction has two directions: upwards (positioning 2) or downwards (positioning 7).
- the horizontal direction has two directions: to the left (positioning 4) or to the right (positioning 5).
- 45 degree direction counterclockwise from vertically has two directions: up (positioning 1) or down (positioning 8).
- 45 degree direction counterclockwise from horizontally has two directions: up (positioning 3) or down (positioning 6).
- positioning 0, means that the two zones are aligned by their middle.
- Figure 4 shows an example of positioning a video area by compared to another.
- a reference point located in zone A is determined relative to the reference area by a first location relation: in this example, the reference point is the labeled part 5 of the reference area A. This part 5 is determined according to the example described in FIG. 2.
- Zone B is positioned relative to zone A relative to a second location relation. This second location relation is such that part 5 of zone A touches part 6 of zone B in the direction of positioning 5.
- zone B is placed relative to zone A, in such a way that its part 6 is located horizontally and to the right of part 5 of zone A.
- FIG. 5 represents an example of positioning of a video zone by report to another including a cursor.
- the video area D is positioned relative to the area video C including a cursor.
- This area C can display, for example, data such as text or an image.
- the cursor is for example at the end of the text.
- Area C is the reference area and the reference point is the cursor.
- the first relation of location of the reference point with respect to area C is defined by the last character at the bottom right of the text.
- Zone D is positioned relative to zone C relative to a second location relation.
- This second location relation is such that the cursor of zone C touches part 6 of zone B according to the direction of positioning 5.

Abstract
Description
