Definitions

  • the present invention relates to watch straps, of the type metallic with links.
  • These bracelets are made up of metal plates linked together articulated way by means of pins rigidly fixed to some of these inserts and rotational mounted in the other inserts, so to form hinges.
  • a bracelet of this type is described in document EP 0 749 709.
  • the pins used have a cylindrical structure of non-circular section. A such a solution allows precise driving of the pins into the pads with which they are rigidly fixed.
  • the object of the present invention is to overcome this drawback.
  • the bracelet according to the invention is formed of metal plates and pins connecting the plates together, in an articulated manner.
  • Each pin which is of non-circular cylindrical shape, is rigidly fixed to at least one plate, by engagement in a blind hole thereof, and movably mounted in rotation in at least one other plate, thereby forming a hinge.
  • This bracelet is characterized in that the pins and plates in which they are rigidly fixed form pairs made in materials likely to ally with each other and in that these pairs have an area in which the insert and the pin are welded together to the other.
  • the pin inserted makes a stopper and compresses the air in the blind hole in the insert.
  • the air trapped in the blind hole is expanded while part of the metal forming the wall of this hole is molten. As a result, this molten metal is projected under the effect of pressure, to let trapped air pass.
  • the pins and the plates are made of the same material. This also allows avoid corrosion by galvanic effect.
  • the latter In order to ensure optimal positioning conditions while retaining the pins with sufficient rigidity, the latter have a section inscribed in a first circle of diameter D and circumscribed in a second circle of diameter d , the ratio D / d being understood between 1.02 and 1.2.
  • the means to be used to manufacture the bracelet represent a significant part of the cost price. This is why it is advantageous to be able to carry out the assembly and welding operations in a completely autonomous manner. In other words, it is necessary that the wafers sufficiently hold the pins, before the welding operation, without having to resort to auxiliary means. To this end, the holes in the plates, in which the pins are rigidly fixed, have a diameter less than D and greater than d .
  • the diameter of these holes is substantially equal to the average of D and d .
  • the bracelet according to the invention includes pins 10, three variants of which are shown in section in Figures 1a, 1b and 1c, and metallic plates of a first type 12 (FIG. 2) and of a second type 14 (Figure 3).
  • Both the pins 10 and the plates 12 and 14 are made of stainless steel, for example example of the type known under the name 316L.
  • the pin 10 shown in section in Figure 1a is formed of a cylindrical rod of non-circular section, having three lobes 10a connected together by a convex rounded 10b.
  • This section can be defined by an inscribed circle c and a circumscribed circle C , having diameters d and D respectively .
  • D is equal to 1.23 mm
  • d is equal to 1.17 mm.
  • the ratio D / d is equal to 1.05.
  • the radius of curvature of the rounding is, of course, greater than the radius of the lobes. It is also possible to connect the lobes with a straight line.
  • the pin 10 is round with two parallel flat faces 10c.
  • the circle C has a diameter D equal to the diameter of the pin 10
  • the circle c tangent to the two plane faces 10c, has a diameter d equal to the distance between these two faces.
  • the pin 10 of Figure 1c is also round of diameter D. It has a groove 10d whose depth does not exceed 0.2 D. In this way, if we pass a circle c inscribed and tangent to the walls of the pin 10, of diameter d , the ratio D / d is less than 1.2. In this way, the solidity of the pin 10 is not significantly affected.
  • the plate 12 shown in Figure 2 is intended to be placed on the side edges of the bracelet. It is generally rectangular in shape, with upper 12a and lower 12b faces intended to form respectively part of the top and bottom of the bracelet and two side faces 12c and 12d.
  • the lateral face 12c is smooth while the face 12d is pierced with two blind cylindrical holes 16, the axes of which are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the lateral surface 12d, only one of which is visible in this figure.
  • These holes 16 have a diameter e greater than d and less than D. In the embodiment described, it is equal to 1.20 mm, the average of D and d .
  • the hole has a depth at least twice its diameter.
  • the wall between the hole 16 and the lower face 12b of the plate is equal to approximately half the diameter of hole 16, or 0.60 mm.
  • the plate 14 of FIG. 3 is also of generally parallelepipedal shape, with an upper face 14a, a lower face 14b and two lateral faces 14c and 14d. It has the same length as the plate 12. Depending on the model, the thicknesses of its plates 12 and 14 can also be the same. It is pierced with two holes 18, mutually parallel and perpendicular to the side faces 14c and 14d, of diameter E slightly greater than D , so that the pins 14, intended to be housed there, can rotate there freely.
  • the bracelet portion shown in Figure 4, has two rows of plates 12, forming the side edges of the bracelet and five rows of plates 14 arranged in the middle part.
  • the plates 12 and 14 are staggered, with an offset equal to half a length of the pads.
  • the holes 16 and 18 of the plates 12 and 14 were drilled so that, in this position, the adjoining holes are aligned.
  • the plates are assembled by means of pins 10 engaged freely in the holes 18 of the plates 14 and forced into the holes 16 of the plates 12.
  • the pins 10 are freely engaged in the holes 18 of the plates 14, because the diameter E of these holes is greater than D.
  • pins 10 are engaged, in pairs, in two plates 12 arranged on either side of the bracelet, while at least one intermediate plate 14 is crossed by pins fixed to neighboring plates 12, thus forming links articulated with each other by hinges.
  • the rigid and non-removable assembly of the plates 12 with the pins 10 is produced by welding. Specifically, when the pads and pins are assembled, the assembly thus produced is placed on a machine provided of a power laser and comprising positioning means which allow the bracelet to be positioned so that the laser beam is oriented correctly compared to platelets.
  • the laser emits, under a neutral atmosphere, a substantially directed pulse perpendicular to the underside 12b of the plates 12, in line with the holes 16.
  • the power of the pulse is chosen so that all the thickness of the wall and part of the underlying pin 10 reach a temperature above the melting point of steel, which means that these parts are welded to each other.
  • the volume brought to the melting point is limited to the immediate vicinity of the target point by the laser beam. This volume is visible at 20 in FIG. 4. Because of the melting of the material, it forms a scar 22 also visible on this Fig. This scar, which can be concave or convex depending on the conditions of work, can be eliminated by a mechanical finishing operation.
  • the air in the space between the end of the pin 10 and the bottom of the hole 16 is heated and expands. As there is a space between the wall of the hole 16 and the pin 10, the air can escape and the pressure in the bottom of the hole rises very little. Of the so the risk of molten metal splashing is completely eliminated. Through elsewhere, the weld, as carried out, ensures a quality fixation, even in a hostile environment, preventing any risk of untimely dismantling.
  • pins and the inserts can, of course, be the subject of numerous variants without departing from the scope of the invention. So the pins and the inserts could be made of other materials, for example in gold or titanium alloys.
  • the plates intended to be welded with the pins and these are made of materials that can be welded to each other.
  • the materials are identical, so as to avoid galvanic type corrosion.
