Definitions
- the present invention relates to a timepiece comprising a box with a back and a middle, as well as a casing ring accommodated to contain a movement fitted with moving needles above a dial, the circle extending substantially over the entire height of the middle in which it fits.
- the fitting of a watch usually includes the succession of following operations.
- the movement includes also a time-setting stem on which a crown is fitted. This time-setting rod ensures the angular orientation of the circle by in relation to the middle part when fitting the watch, in the case where the middle part and the circle have a round configuration.
- the watch also includes a crystal surmounting the dial and fixed on the box by means of a telescope engaged in a notch provided in the upper periphery of the middle.
- the drawback of the assembly process which has just been described has the drawback that it is difficult, due to the play inherent in dimensional tolerances presented by the dial, the casing circle and the bottom of the box, to ensure a determined and precise height positioning of the movement compared to the box.
- the vertical play of the circle by can be caught thanks to the pressure exerted by the bezel under the effect of which the circle tends to deform elastically. That however, comes at the cost of a constant reaction from the circle against the ice which then risks deteriorating or loosening from the middle.
- This timepiece 1 comprises a movement 2 mounted in a circle casing 4, a dial 6 surmounting the circle 4 and a crystal 8 surmounting the dial 6.
- the circle 4 is mounted in a box 10 comprising a middle 12 and a bottom 14 made in one piece with the middle 12.
- the glass 8 rests on the top of the middle 12 and is fixed to it by a bezel 16 retained in a notch 18.
- the means for positioning the circle 4 in height by relative to the box 10 consist of a plurality of points 20 of which only one is shown in FIG. 1. These cone-shaped points 20 are arranged under the casing circle 4. They are, for example, in number of four, arranged at equal distance from each other to ensure good seating of circle 4 on bottom 14. After setting up circle 4 in the box 10, there is a push on it. Under this pressure, the tips 20 come crashing down and deforming plastically against the bottom 14 of the box 10, until the circle 4 occupies a height position determined with respect to the box 10. At this time, the cones 20 are end, no longer with spikes, but with beads as can be see it in Figure 1, and more specifically in Figure 2 which is a detail view of figure 1.
- the means of position described above are deformed in a plastic way, this deformation resulting in a non-reversible crushing of the material. So, when the casing ring is in place, it does not undergo any push vertical as is the case when it deforms elastically.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks of the art mentioned above by providing a timepiece comprising a casing ring which can be precisely positioned in the box and not exerting any push tending to take the glass out of its housing.
- the present invention relates to a timepiece comprising a box fitted with a back and a middle part, a mounted movement in the casing circle, a dial surmounting the circle and a mirror surmounting the dial, this crystal being provided with an annular collar surrounding the side of the dial, characterized in that the casing circle includes means arranged to eliminate all the games inherent in dimensional tolerances presented by the dial, the circle and the background of the box, these means on which the flange of the ice is supported being arranged at the upper end of the circle, along the circumference exterior of it.
- the means for eliminating the clearances due to the different dimensional tolerances are slats flexible able to deform elastically.
- the casing circle be made of a material plastically deformable as was the case in the prior art.
- the circle and the bottom of the box can then be machined with good precision, typically of the order of a few hundredths of a millimeter, compatible with good alignment of the passage holes of the time setting rod practiced in the middle and the circle.
- the possible play due to the dimensional tolerances of the different parts is caught by elastic deformation of the flexible strips arranged at the upper end of the casing circle on which the flange of the ice is supported.
- the sum of the different tolerances is effectively significantly less than the amplitude of deformation of the flexible lamellae which is in the range of two to three tenths of a millimeter. So when the ice is placed above the circle and fixed there by means of the telescope driven into a notch of the middle, it comes to press on the slats, which has the effect of pressing the circle against the bottom of the box. Therefore, whether the game is positive or negative, the circle and the ice are always suitably kept in the box of the timepiece.
- the present invention proceeds from the general inventive idea which consists in provide in the upper peripheral part of a casing circle for flexible slats to compensate for the play due to dimensional tolerances presented by the casing circle, the dial and the bottom of the box.
- the glass pressed against the circle by the bezel engaged in a notch of the middle, comes into elastic support on these slats by an annular flange surrounding the side of the dial, and in turn presses the circle against the bottom of the box.
- the circle and the bottom of the box can, therefore, be machined with good accuracy, so that the through holes of the rod time set in the middle and in the circle can be suitably aligned.
- the timepiece according to the invention designated as a whole by the general numerical reference 22, is shown in section in FIG. 3. It comprises a box 24 provided with a middle part 26 and a bottom 28 which, in the example shown is made in one piece with the middle part 26. It goes without saying that the present invention applies in the same way to a box which does would not be monocoque and which would include a background separate from the middle.
- the timepiece 22 also includes a movement 30 mounted in a casing circle 32, a dial 34 surmounting the circle 32, and a crystal 36 surmounting the dial 34.
- the crystal 36 rests on means 38 intended to eliminate the play due to the dimensional tolerances of the circle 32, of the dial 34 and of the bottom 28 of the box 24 which will be described in detail later.
- the movement 30 is provided with a needle of the 40 hours, a 42 minute hand, and a 44 second hand which evolve between the dial 34 and the crystal 36.
- the movement 30 also includes a time-setting rod 46 on which a crown 48 is fitted.
- the seal of the rod 46 with respect to the box 24 is ensured by a seal toroid 50.
- This time-setting rod 46 ensures the angular orientation of the circle 32 relative to the middle part 26 during assembly of the watch 22, in the case where the middle part 26 and the circle 32 are round.
- the box 24 has at its upper periphery a notch 56 in which is engaged a bezel 58 which fixes the glass 36 to the box 24.
- the glass 36 is made waterproof relative to the box 24 through the use a seal 60 wedged between glass and box.
- Feet 62 are arranged under the casing ring 32. These feet can be, for example, the number of six, arranged at regular intervals from each other. These feet 62 are non-deformable and serve only to ensure that circle 32 good seat on the bottom 28 of the box 24.
- Figure 5 is a general perspective view showing the circle casing 32 in which the movement 30 is accommodated.
- FIGS. 6 and 7 are respectively views from above and from below of circle 32, of dial 34 and crystal 36 shown in exploded perspective.
- the dial 34 and the crystal 36 are provided with interlocking means for positioning angularly and center the crystal 36 relative to the dial 34.
- the figures show that the dial 34 has a flank 64 from which three ears emerge 66 which extend beyond the periphery of the dial 34.
- the glass 36 is provided with an annular heel 68 which rests on the dial 34 and a flange 70 which surrounds the blank 64 of the dial 34.
- This flange 70 is provided with three notches 72 arranged to come styling the ears 66.
- the three ears 66 and the three notches 72 which come to nest on these three ears 66 are distributed at equal distance each other. It is thus possible to orient angularly and center the crystal 36 perfectly relative to the dial 34.
- Ears 66 are also used to fix and position angularly the dial 34 relative to the casing circle 32.
- the ears 66 each have a notch 74.
- These notches 74 are arranged to each receive a corresponding tenon 76 erected on the upper face 78 of the casing circle 32.
- the dial 34 is plated on the circle 32
- the tenons 76 of the circle 32 penetrate into the notches 74 respective of the ears 66 of the dial 34.
- the tenons 76 are thermally crushed.
- the circle casing 32 has a boss 80 which enters a housing 82 of the movement 30 to orient these relative to each other when they have a round configuration.
- Figures 5 to 9 clearly show that the means 38 according to the invention intended to make up for the play inherent in dimensional tolerances the circle 32, the dial 34 and the bottom 28 of the box 24 are presented under form of flexible strips 84 able to deform elastically.
- these strips 84 are three in number, arranged at noon, five o'clock and seven o'clock respectively. It is obvious that the number and arrangement of the slats 84 can be changed by according to needs without departing from the scope of the present invention.
- the slats 84 are arranged at the upper end of the casing circle 32, along the outer circumference thereof.
- the slats 84 have each a projecting part by means of which the flange 70 of the ice 36 is supported on these strips 84.
- the projecting parts of the lamellae 84 are lugs 88. Thanks to these strips 84, the casing circle 32 and the bottom 28 of the box 24 can be machined with close tolerances, typically of the order a few hundredths of a millimeter, so that the through holes 52 and 54 made respectively in the middle 26 and the circle 32 to leave pass the time-setting rod 46 are always properly aligned, and that the rod 46 therefore does not risk seizing.
- the sum of the tolerances of different components of the timepiece 22 according to the invention is very much lower than the amplitude of deformation of the lamellae 84 which is on the order of a few tenths of a millimeter. So whether the game is positive or negative, it is eliminated, so that the circle 32 and the glass 36 are always suitably held against the bottom 28 of the box 24. Indeed, as shown in Figure 9, the glass 36, pressed against the circle 32 by the bezel 58 driven into the notch 56 of the box 24, presses on the slats 84 by its collar 70, which has the effect of elastically deforming these lamellae 84 downward, creating a pressing force which applies the circle 32 against the bottom 28 of the box 24.
- the support of the flange 70 of the ice 36 on the flexible lamellae 84 is always carried out insofar as, when the glass 36 is mounted in the box 24, the collar 70 drops to a level slightly lower than the level at the top of the lugs 88 which stand on the slats 84 when they are at rest.
