Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device at a door for preventing crash damages on fingers or other body parts of a human being.
- the device comprises a longitudinal shield with fastening means, wherein the shield is mounted on a doorframe or a doorblade at the same side as hinges of the doorblade so that an interspace, which arises between the doorframe and the doorblade when the door is opened, is at least partly covered; and the shield is biassed into contact with the doorblade or the doorframe by spring means.
- DE-298 20 338 U1 discloses a rather bulky device with a bent shield mounted to a doorframe by complicated fastening means, and ordinary springs are used for the elastical abutment to the door.
- GB-2 271 134 A which mainly illustrates the same construction as DE-298 20 338 U1, but wherein a longitudinal piano hinge is utilised to fasten the doorblade to the doorframe.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks above and to provide a safe, simple and easily mountable protection at a door for preventing severe finger damages, in particular of children, or damages on other parts of a human body.
- the protection comprises a shield, which is mounted on the doorblade or the doorframe at the side where hinges are provided, and which covers the interspace between the doorblade and the doorframe when the door is opened.
- the shield is further in elastical contact with the doorblade or doorframe throughout the movement when opening or closing the door by means of spring means.
- the spring means is provided in a longitudinal channel in the shield and is connected to the fastening means.
- FIG 1 shows a perspective view of an opened door.
- a doorblade 1 is mounted to a doorframe 2 by means of hinges 3.
- an interspace 4 arises between the doorblade 1 and the doorframe 2 at the side where the hinges are provided.
- the door has a handle 5 and a lock 6.
- FIG 2 a device for protection at a door, comprising a shield 7 with a longitudinal channel or hole 8 at one of the longitudinal sides of the shield 7.
- Fastening means for mounting the shield 7 movably to the doorframe 2 is provided at both ends 13 of the channel 8, and each includes a cartridge 9 and a screw 10.
- the upper and lower part, respectively, of the shield 7 is mounted to the doorframe 2, at the same side as the hinges are provided, by means of the screw 10 of the fastening means, hence covering the interspace 4 between the doorblade 1 and the doorframe 2.
- the shield 7 will elastically abut the doorblade, and will thereby cover the interspace 4 all the time through the movement of the door either it is opened or closed, by means of the spring means 11, which is provided in the channel 8 but is not visible.
- the spring means 11 is thus hidden in the channel 8 of the shield 7, and may preferably be a torsion spring, so that an elegant solution will ensure that the shield is kept in contact with the doorblade 1 throughout its movement.
- a piano-wire can preferably be used as the spring means 11 and has a very good elasticity and resistance against fatigue.
- the piano-wire will thus extend in the channel 8, anchored around the screw 10 inside the cartridge 9 with one of its ends, the other end being fastened to a pin 12 at a certain distance from the end of the channel 8. Since the screw 10 goes through the cartridge 9 hence forming a unity, it is very easy to tighten the spring at assembly to achieve sufficient, elastical abutment of the shield 7 to the doorblade 1.
- the cartridge 9 has at least one flat side, which abuts the doorframe 2 and locks the cartridge 9 in a specific position to the doorframe 2. It is even better if the cartridge 9 has additional flat sides, e g being a hexagonal or octagonal cartridge, which makes it easy to get a correct, elastical force at tightening the spring.
- the shield 7 is for example made of a polymer, preferably a plastic or a thermoplastic elastomer, e g a polypropylene copolymer, which is a cheap and a commercially available material, and which has an inherent elasticity.
- the shield 7, including the channel 8, is preferably injection moulded in one single piece, and it can be shaped with a specific profile for improved abutment to the doorblade 1, as exemplified in FIG 3.
- An additional advantage with a specific profile is that the shield becomes stiffer.
- Another advantage is that there will be no risk for the shield 7 to get stuck to the doorblade 1 when it has the exemplified profile.
- the production die is preferably polished for obtaining a smooth surface of the shield 7, which makes it easy to clean.
- a pigment may be added to the polymer for obtaining various colours of the final product for a more aesthetic look.
- the protection device has very few parts, and that the production and the assembly comprise few steps.
- the shield 7 may be of any size; preferably the length is about 1000 mm and the width about 300 mm.
- the spring means 11 has for example a length of about 300 mm.
- the protection device may comprise one or more shields 7 as described above, longitudinally mounted on the doorframe 2 one after another, the interspace 4 being completely or partly covered.
- the shield 7 may be much longer, for example almost 2000 mm, which require a bar preferably made of steel in the channel to maintain the stiffness of the device.
- the actual need decides the length of the total device. For example, in a situation where children are concerned it is sufficient with one shield having a length of about 1000 mm, and being mounted rather close to the floor. It is also possible to mount the device leaving a certain distance between the floor and the shield to facilitate cleaning.
- the described embodiment of the protection device has two torsion springs, but another embodiment may have only one at one end of the shield 7.
- the shield 7 may be attached to the doorblade 1 instead of the doorframe 2.
- the disclosure above is highlighting a device for protection at a door for preventing crash damages on fingers or other parts of a human body.
- the protection device it is also possible to use the protection device wherever crash damages may occur, for example at a window.
