Abstract

The subject scroll is obtained using the traditional nylon PA 6.6 strengthened with 30% glass; however its function is no longer that to contain water inside the circulator only, but also to act as a multifunction modular manifold.
Such use leads to the following consequences :
  • heating return (inlet to the circulator)
  • heating return (outlet from the circulator toward the exchanger)
  • two alternative seats for the heating by-pass
  • safety valve
  • two-levels heating pressure switch
  • connection to the water gauge (pressure gauge)
  • flexible ramp toward expansion tank
  • automatic air exhaust valve for the hydraulic circuit.

Description

  • So far the scroll function has been to work as a shell sealing the back of the circulator.
  • In the past, scrolls were made of cast-iron; present scrolls are moulded from compound materials such as nylon PA 6.6 strengthened with 30% glass.
  • The scroll making the object of our patent filing is made using the same type of nylon.
  • As compared to the previous situation, its purpose is not only to contain water inside the circulator but also to act as a multifunction modular manifold, with the following consequences:
    • heating return (inlet to the circulator)
    • heating return (outlet from circulator toward exchanger)
    • two alternative seats for the heating by-pass; this function has been designed to allow the pump to be assembled left or right of the boiler, depending upon the various models and consequently to have the heating by-pass right or left of the pump itself
    • safety valve
    • two-levels heating pressure switch
    • connection to the water gauge (pressure gauge)
    • flexible ramp toward expansion tank
    • automatic air exhaust valve in the hydraulic circuit
  • The advantages provided by this solution are the evident rationalization of the hydraulic circuit and the consequent reduction of components.
  • Herewith attached please find the following documentation :
    • diagram of the hydraulic circuit of the Basic boiler showing the various connections to the circulator through the scroll
    • drawing of the present Grundfos UP 15-50 circulator with the traditional scroll
    • drawing of the circulator for Basic boiler with the new scroll, properly evidenced
    • drawing related to the scroll alone.

Claims (2)

  1. The scroll of the IABER design is no longer conceived to contain water inside the circulator but also to act as a multifunction modular manifold.
  2. Such solution presents the advantage to rationalize the hydraulic circuit and to reduce the number of components.
