Definitions

  • the present invention relates to floor coverings, walls, or soundproofing products obtained from 'compounds', that is to say from blends of plastics that are responsible for generally inert mineral materials such as chalk or barite and that can be implemented directly by calendering or extrusion, especially for forming sheets or films serving as coatings floors or walls or to form interior trim of vehicles made by thermoforming or for soundproofing products.
  • polyvinyl chloride Plasticized PVC has been widely used for both realization of flooring only for production soundproofing products in the automotive sector. This is mainly due to the fact that PVC plasticized have excellent characteristics of mechanical behavior, both at low temperature (for example up to temperatures of the order of -20 ° C) than at high temperature (for example at 70 ° C).
  • HDPE high density polyethylene
  • EVA ethylene-acetate polymer vinyl products
  • copolymerized ethylenes with increasing amounts of alkene evolve the resin from the properties that we observe for a HDPE to those known for LLDPE and up to VLDPE.
  • LLDPE and VLDPE are still too rigid, because too much crystalline, and therefore they can not agree as they applications for which we currently use filled plasticized PVC.
  • VLDPEs have behaviors similar to those of EVA, with a number of additional benefits among which one can quote a better resistance to the heat (Vicat point higher), a reduced risk of decomposition during the implementation or during a use in conditions of thermal stress high. In addition, they are cheaper than EVA.
  • VLDPEs admit generally less loads than very flexible EVAs.
  • EP 0 572 034-A discloses similar products for the production of films, sheets, molded objects and cables, in particular sheets for packaging. It is stated in this document that fillers can be incorporated into these products.
  • WO-97/26297-A discloses the possibility of producing a mixture of polymers of the type metallocene with polyolefinic plastomers and naphthenic or paraffinic oils as well as loads.
  • recycled materials and diluent polymers in a content which is preferably less than 50% by weight can be added. Their use is similar to the applications mentioned in the previous document.
  • Formulations containing substantially linear interpolymers of ethylene with C 30 -C 20 ⁇ -olefins, polyolefins of 0.1 to 80% filler are described in US-5,576,374-A. These products are used for injection and blow molding or extrusion molding.
  • polyolefins 10 to 30 pcr in addition to the MPO commodities, is mentioned. No example, however, mentions the use of polyolefins mixed with polyalkenes of the MPO type, nor the properties of such mixed.
  • WO 94/03537-A proposes molded products such as lids, cups and containers thin walls, obtained by extrusion followed by molding of different ethylenic polyolefins.
  • the present invention therefore aims to further improve the properties of polyolefins and particular products of the LLDPE mixture type with EVA and / or VLDPE.
  • the aim is to compensate poor mechanical characteristics by a polymer recognized for owning a very high rate of charges and a high rate of oil retention.
  • the present invention aims in particular at to propose charged compounds suitable for the uses mentioned by adding low value products added, either blank or from the recycling of external industrial waste, avoiding the difficulties stiffening, lower characteristics, particular fragility, exudation, shaping delicate, lack of formality, withdrawal or warping.
  • the aim is to avoid difficulties arising from the fact that addition polymers from the recycling of waste causes difficulties related to lack of consistency of quality that it will be necessary to be able to control.
  • An approach for a solution is to compensate for the poor mechanical characteristics by a polymer known to have a very high rate of allowable expenses and a high retention rate oil.
  • EPDMs are Ethylene polymers copolymerized with quantities propylene, for example 20 to 45% with a maximum of a few percent of a diene monomer.
  • EPMs are products of the same type but not containing diene.
  • a high oil content is particularly interesting for the final properties because it is an agent that greatly facilitates the implementation of loaded products.
  • the EPDM is a ideal candidate, it has the disadvantage of being very expensive (almost double the price of products of the VLDPE-EVA).
  • the product does not exist commercially in the form of granules, and it is provided in blocks. It is difficult to be assayed and it is impossible to make mixtures by a continuous system. Only discontinuous mixers, by example of the internal mixers of the Banbury type, allow to treat this polymer. So we can say that one of its qualities is a disadvantage level of implementation.
  • the Claimant is therefore part of a terpolymer derived from ethylene monomers, propylene diene (EPDM) reference consisting of the Vistalon 5600 which serves as a comparison product.
  • EPDM propylene diene
  • Vistalon 5600 is a low-rate EPDM ethylene (68%) low density (0.86) and highly viscous, that is to say having a Mooney viscosity at 125 ° C. equal to 75, which gives an MFI (190 ° C) equivalent to about 0.1% to 0.2 g / 10 min, i.e. a very low value low.
  • Such high viscosity in compounds such as those contemplated according to the invention inevitably causes compounding problems (high mixing time) to ensure good dispersion viscous polymer, but also problems with dimensional stability or shrinkage of the finished product, obtained for example in the form of an extruded sheet.
  • polymers of the type called "metallocene”, that is to say in particular polymers obtained by a so-called metallocene catalyst of the type of those cited in US 5,272,236-A, can achieve at least the properties of this reference product, but at lower cost and under more favorable conditions of use.
  • the invention proposes products obtained by calendering or extrusion which are constituted essentially olefinic products containing a additive formed of metallocene-type polymer (s) and having from 25 to 1000 phr (percent by weight per to resins) preferably inert charges, such as chalk or barite.
  • compositions implemented may include usual adjuvants, such as reinforcing fillers and adjuvants processability or workability, stabilizers thermal and / or light stabilizers (UV), pigments, antioxidants, plasticizers, lubricants, matting agents, agents blisters, swelling inhibitors, agents flame retardant, anti-fire and anti-smoke, crosslinking agents, solvents or diluents, etc., according to the intended uses.
  • adjuvants such as reinforcing fillers and adjuvants processability or workability, stabilizers thermal and / or light stabilizers (UV), pigments, antioxidants, plasticizers, lubricants, matting agents, agents blisters, swelling inhibitors, agents flame retardant, anti-fire and anti-smoke, crosslinking agents, solvents or diluents, etc., according to the intended uses.
  • An agent of preference is preferably used plastification which is a refined mineral oil or a synthetic oil and / or lubricants and additives fatty acid type (such as stearic acid) or of the type metal oleate (such as calcium stearate or zinc) or erucamide.
  • fatty acid type such as stearic acid
  • type metal oleate such as calcium stearate or zinc
  • Metallocene-type polymers so general, that is, whatever the nature of the olefinic products used (in particular other polyolefins), act as additives and are therefore present at a level of 5 to 65 pcr (percentage in weight with respect to the resins), preferably less than 50 pcr.
  • a metallocene at 24% octene and 76% ethylene, commercially produced by DuPont-Dow under the Engage 8100 designation is less flexible (density 0.87) and less viscous than the corresponding EPDM (Vistalon 5600 - reference product), that is to say having an MFI of 1, which makes an equivalent Mooney viscosity of 20 and it is therefore particularly suitable.
  • Non-metallocene olefinic products implemented may be mixtures of products of the type LLDPE with EVA and / or VLDPE.
  • an additive made of metallocene-type polymers facilitates the compatibility of the constituents of the compositions olefins charged, without loss of properties in particular without loss of resistance to abrasion, while being able to ensure the performance of heat resistance thanks to the judicious choice of a polymer metallocene with high mechanical resistance to heat.
  • the implementation is easy, and withdrawals longitudinal values are diminished, which apparently results from the noticeable reduction in the viscosity of the polymer metallocene.
  • the metallocene polymer used preferably has a density of less than 0.935, preferably between 0.86 and 0.935 and more particularly, from 0.87 to 0.935.
  • MFI is between 0.1 and 30, values preferably between 0.5 and 5 being generally chosen.
  • the rate of metallocene is between 10 and 100%, and preferably between 20 and 200% of this low added value polymer.
  • Floor or wall coverings according to the invention are in particular those of the type known as "Compact”. These products can, in a classical way, be assembled from a calendered leaf with other sheets or films such as underlays or “Files” of products of the type of coated glass veils and they are covered by so-called wear and top-coating applied by coating for example.
  • the products of the invention can in themselves serve to build these other constituents of the assembly, for example the wear layer or the underlayer, advantageously by adjusting the charge rate.
  • calendering must be understood in the sense wide and covers rolling, calendering and coating hot etc.
  • extrusion which covers all the operative variants of techniques so-called extrusion polymers.
  • compositions that can, for example, be implemented by calendering or by extrusion (percentage expressed by weight).
  • the total weight of materials is 371 g and the mixture was made in identical conditions, namely in an internal mixer 2 1 of capacity.
  • Uninitiated tearing results (DAN) and the measured thickness of the leaves produced by calendering are converted into DAN / mm values which are listed in Tables I to IV of the examples.
