The plurality of index cards are provided in an offset relation with respect to each other for assortment of the multiplicity offolders 2. In this case, theindex cards 27 may have different colors for easier discrimination of theassorted folders 2. - When the
filing case 1 is closed, aprojection 28 formed on themain body 4 is engaged with an opening 29a formed in afastener tab 29 provided on thecover 6. With this state, thefiling case 1 can be vertically placed on a desk or carried. When thecover 6 is to be opened, thefastener tab 29 is disengaged from theprojection 28. The fastening means for fastening thecover 6 to themain body 4 is not limited to the combination of thefastener tab 29 and theprojection 28. - Although the
first engagement elements 3, thesecond engagement elements 16 and thethird engagement elements 17 are provided alongside of three of the four edges of thebottom plate 7 of themain body 4 in accordance with the first embodiment, engagement elements may be provided alongside of at least one of the four edges of thebottom plate 7. - Next, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 14 through 20.
- The second embodiment of the present invention shown in FIGS. 14 to 20 is different from the first embodiment in that the
first engagement elements 3 are provided at a proper interval on an interior surface of theelongate spine plate 11 longitudinally thereof which connects themain body 4 to thecover 6 via thethin hinge portions 5. Thefirst engagement elements 3 each have a generally inverted-U-shaped configuration, and include aplate portion 18 having arcuate upper corners and a vertically extending lower portion (as viewed when thefiling case 1 is placed on a desk or the like with thecover 6 being opened and with thebottom plate 7 of themain body 4, thetop plate 12 of thecover 6 and thespine plate 11 being kept horizontal), and aflange 19 provided on the periphery of theplate portion 18. Theflange 19 has a semicircular sectional configuration with an outer diameter greater than the thickness of theplate portion 18 thereby to project from opposite surfaces of theplate portion 18 with its inward flat surfaces being generally perpendicular to the opposite surfaces of theplate portion 18. Thefirst engagement elements 3 are each disposed perpendicularly to the interior surface of thespine plate 11 and to the length of thespine plate 11. Other features of the second embodiment is the same as those of the first embodiment. - With this arrangement, the multiplicity of
folders 2 can detachably be filed in thefiling case 1 with the T-shapedengagement portions 25 of thefolders 2 as the filing means which can be engaged with theflanges 19 of thefirst engagement elements 3. That is, the T-shapedengagement portions 25 can easily be brought into and out of engagement with theflanges 19 of thefirst engagement elements 3 because of resilience of thefolders 2. The number of thefirst engagement elements 3 is not limited to that shown in Fig. 14, but may be any desired number. The number of the engagement portions of thefolder 2 is determined in accordance with the number of thefirst engagement elements 3. Thefolders 2 fastened to thefirst engagement elements 3 can be moved along theflanges 19 with theengagement portions 25 thereof being engaged with theflanges 19. That is, when the cover is opened, thefolders 2 can be turned over in either direction on themain body 4 or on thecover 6 as shown in FIG. 17. When thecover 6 is closed, thefolders 2 are moved to middle portions of theflanges 19 thereby to be neatly contained in themain body 4. - In accordance with the present invention, the folders can easily be brought into or out of engagement with the engagement elements provided inside the filing case. Therefore, the filing case is easier to handle than the conventional filing case.
- While the present invention has thus been described by way of the first and second embodiments thereof shown in the drawings, the invention may be embodied in any other forms. For example, the
first engagement elements 3, thesecond engagement elements 16 and thethird engagement elements 17 may be produced separately from themain body 4, and then fixed to thebottom plate 7 of themain body 4. The first, second andthird engagement elements plate portions folder 2 has the generally T-shapedengagement portions 25 provided at a proper interval alongside of one edge thereof in the embodiments described above but, instead, may have round holes provided at a proper interval alongside of one edge thereof and slits (incisions) extending from the round holes to the one edge. The combination of the round holes and the slits serves as the filing means. Other than the document folders and the index cards, business card folders, photo folders and disk folders such as CD (compact disk) folders can be fastened to the first, second andthird engagement elements
