Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a construction element made of hard material for a wristwatch and in particular a watch case middle, a winding crown or bracelet links made of a material having a Vickers hardness greater than or equal to 1100 HV.
  • Metals are very widely used to make dressing parts for wristwatches because of their very interesting properties: high mechanical resistance, high toughness, ease of implementation and machining, etc. Their hardness is, however, lower than that of ceramics, and experience has shown that the cladding parts of wristwatches are poorly resistant to scratches caused by certain very hard agents such as the silica contained in dust, marble or even sand. This therefore results in a relatively rapid deterioration in the aesthetic appearance of these types of parts.
  • these covering parts are currently made of hard metal, for example tungsten carbide, titanium carbonitride or even ceramic.
  • Patent CH 622,151 describes an example of a structure for assembling a case back to a watch case middle made of corundum.
  • the middle part comprises a plurality of housings obtained for example by ultrasonic machining, by grinding or by electroerosion. These housings have a flat bottom and a slightly frustoconical side face and open out into the underside of the middle part. Tapped plugs are fixed by gluing in the housing of the middle. Screws pass through openings in the bottom and engage in the plugs into which they are screwed. This assembly technique is also used to make ceramic winding crowns.
  • the dosage of the glue during its application in the housings is very difficult to control, given the relatively small bonding surface on which the plugs are glued.
  • the implementation of this assembly technique is all the more delicate as the dimensions are small.
  • the diameters of the plugs used are of the order of a few millimeters.
  • the main object of the present invention is therefore to remedy the drawbacks of the above-mentioned prior art, by providing a construction element of hard material for a wristwatch allowing assembly with other construction elements of the same type, which is reliable, simple and economical to implement.
  • the subject of the invention is a construction element made of hard material for a wristwatch, characterized in that it comprises a hole whose cylindrical wall has a thread which comes in one piece with said element.
  • the wristwatch 1 shown diagrammatically and partially in FIG. 1, comprises a box 2 conventionally formed by a middle part 4, a glass 6 and a base 8.
  • the watch 1 further comprises means for setting the hour 10 cooperating in a known manner with a clockwork movement housed in the box 1.
  • the means 10 include in particular a winding stem 12 topped with a winding crown 14.
  • the crown 14, which forms a building element of the wristwatch 1, is made of a hard material, that is to say of a material having a Vickers hardness greater than or equal to 1100.
  • the crown 14 can be made of "hard metal", “cermet” or even ceramic material.
  • hard metal is meant two-phase composite materials consisting of a metallic phase which coats hard particles such as tungsten carbide particles or the like.
  • ceramic is meant two-phase composite materials consisting of a metallic phase which coats hard particles such as particles of titanium carbonitride or the like.
  • ceramic material is meant
  • the crown 14 (FIG. 2) comprises a hole 16, the cylindrical wall of which comprises an internal thread 18 which comes integrally with the crown 14 and by which the latter is directly screwed onto the winding stem 12.
  • thread coming from material it is understood that the thread 18 is obtained without removing material by machining using any tool.
  • the diameter of the crown 14 is between approximately 2 and 5 mm and the diameter of the threaded hole 16 is between approximately 2 and 3 mm, the length of the thread 18 is between approximately 1 and 2.5 mm , the manufacturing tolerances of such parts for wristwatches being of the order of 2 to 3 hundredths of a millimeter.
  • the direct mechanical connection between the winding stem 12 and the crown 14 resists tensile forces of the order of 800 N (breakage of the winding stem 12) and more, whatever the environmental conditions while the mechanical bond bonded between a stopper and a crown withstands, on average, tensile forces of the order of 70 to 110 N under normal conditions, and decreases to 26 N in tropical climatic conditions .
  • a ceramic powder for example a stabilized zirconium oxide powder.
  • the powder used has an average particle size of the order of a micrometer, typically 0.5-1 micrometer.
  • the ceramic powder is then mixed with a binder, for example a polyvinyl alcohol.
  • a binder for example a polyvinyl alcohol.
  • the mixture obtained is homogenized and dried, for example in a conventional atomizer.
  • the granule obtained is sieved, typically at 300 micrometers.
  • the sieved granule is then injected into a mold having the configuration of the desired crown in order to form a blank thereof.
  • the mold comprises in particular a core having the shape of a cylindrical rod on which helical grooves have been dug to leave in relief a thread whose external shape corresponds to that of the desired threaded hole.
  • the mold and the core are of course dimensioned to take into account the shrinkage phenomenon which the crown will undergo during the subsequent sintering step.
  • the dimensions are typically 20 to 25% greater than the final dimensions of the crown.
  • the core is unscrewed and the crown is removed from the mold.
  • the binder is then removed by a conventional thermal process. After removing the binder, the crown is placed in a sintering oven in which it is heated between 1300 ° C and 1600 ° C for about an hour. The crown is removed from the oven and cooled. The crown is finally polished, for example using a diamond paste, so that it has attractive aesthetic characteristics.
  • the crown thus obtained can be directly screwed onto a winding stem having an appropriate thread.
  • FIG 3 there is shown a wristwatch equipped with another construction element according to the invention and in which the elements identical to those of Figures 1 and 2 have the same reference numerals.
  • the building element is constituted by the middle part 6 made of ceramic.
  • the middle part 6 comprises, according to the invention, several holes 16 whose cylindrical wall has an internal thread 18 which comes in one piece with the body of the middle part 6. These holes 16 open into the underside of the middle part 6 and receive directly screws 20 which pass through openings 22 in the base 8 to fix the latter to the middle part 6.
