Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a coolant pump, especially for internal combustion engines with internal combustion according to the preamble of the claim 1.
Conventional coolant pumps for motor vehicles are usually over a pulley driven. The drive takes place via a belt, that of a corresponding additional pulley on the crankshaft Internal combustion engine is moved. Such a coolant pump is designed so that the pulley is wedged at one end of a pump shaft which is stored in its middle section in the housing of the pump. On the opposite An impeller is arranged at the end of the shaft, which is usually axial is flown and its outflow takes place in the radial direction. To the To prevent leakage of the pumped coolant is between the Impeller and the bearings arranged a seal, usually as a mechanical seal is trained. Such a water pump has an axial direction due to the individual components to be arranged on the pump shaft certain minimum dimensions. The available installation space in modern motor vehicles However, the coolant pump is getting smaller, so there is a need to be more compact. In the conventional construction of a coolant pump there are limits, however, because the individual components are due of the permissible load values cannot be made arbitrarily small.
There is therefore a need to create a coolant pump in the case of otherwise the same requirements, the necessary installation space is significantly reduced can be. In particular, the dimension in the axial direction should be essential be reduced.
From FR-A 989 105 a cooling water pump is known in which the inner ring of the rolling bearing is fixedly connected to the housing, and that the outer ring of the Rolling bearing is essentially attached to the pulley. It is advantageous making sure that the space inside the pulley is used to drive the Coolant pump is used to hold other components. To this In this way, an extremely compact design of the coolant pump can be achieved become. Similar solutions are in DE-A 26 26 875, US-A 4,911,610 or US-A 2,028,360.
GB 1 400 620 A shows a coolant pump which has recesses in the pulley has to allow the leakage of liquid by the seal has passed. The leakage fluid is always outside visible what is undesirable in the automotive sector.
However, it has been found that even with the most careful execution of the Seals leakage can never be completely ruled out. Around damage to bearings or other components of the coolant pump To avoid the escaping cooling medium, it must be ensured that a small amount of leakage can be disposed of. It is especially so desirable if this without any externally visible traces of liquid is possible. It is known to use so-called leakage spaces for such a purpose to create that can hold a certain amount of coolant and for Environment are open, so that the amount of leakage over a longer period can evaporate away. Conventional leakage rooms, however, wear again to increase the required installation space, what from the above Reasons is undesirable.
The object of the present invention is to avoid these disadvantages and to create a coolant pump that is extremely low while functioning safely Space required. These tasks are characterized by the characteristics of the characterizing part of claim 1 solved.
The inventive design, it is possible without increasing the To provide a large leakage space in the longitudinal dimensions of the coolant pump, so that safe operation is possible without damaging the rolling bearings. Even if the amount of leakage changes due to wear after a longer period Operating time has increased, the visible leakage of cooling medium can be reliable be prevented.
A particular advantage of the invention is that the roller bearing for storage the pump shaft and the pulley have a relatively large diameter has, so that a particularly long life can be achieved. A Another peculiarity of the invention is that the roller bearing does not directly support the shaft, but over the pulley. Because the belt force is the greatest burden represents, a favorable introduction of force is achieved.
It is structurally particularly favorable if the inner ring of the rolling bearing is on a substantially cylindrical projection of the housing is attached, the protrudes from the housing opposite to the direction of flow of the pump impeller. This results in a rigid construction.
A particularly space-saving embodiment of the invention can also thereby achieved that the pulley has a mounting hub with which the pump shaft is firmly connected, and that this mounting hub in Extends essentially within the rolling bearing.
Basically, it is possible to use a single roller bearing to support the drive shaft to provide that in addition to the radial forces occurring in a certain Extent of axial loads. A reduction in the burden the roller bearing can, however, be achieved in that two roller bearings are provided directly next to each other.
The constructive degrees of freedom in the formation of the invention Rolling bearing can also be enlarged by the fact that between the Fastening hub of the pulley and the impeller a mechanical seal is provided, the outer diameter of which is preferably smaller than the inner diameter of the rolling bearing.
An optimal use of space results when the pulley is immediately is arranged next to the pressure chamber of the pump. That way the space available in the axial direction is optimally used.
A particularly advantageous design variant of the invention is given that the pulley has a shoulder on which the outer ring of the roller bearing, a disc section within the shoulder, the is opposite the side of the impeller and has a hub portion, facing the pump impeller. A particular advantage of this Execution is that the rolling bearing by the pressure exerted by the belt is exerted on the pulley in the radial direction, essentially only in Radial direction is loaded. In contrast, the pressure of the belt causes a tilting moment on the belt pulley in the conventional coolant pump, that puts additional strain on the roller bearings.
In the following, the present invention is based on that shown in the figures Embodiment explained in more detail.
