Abstract

The invention relates to a plasma screen with a front plate (1), a rear plate (2) and a number of gas-containing plasma cells (15) arranged between them and separated by partitions (9), in which a plasma is located in a plasma area (16) can form two discharge electrodes (6,7). In such plasma screens, radiation in the UV range is preferably generated by means of a gas discharge, which radiation is converted into visible light by phosphor layers contained in the plasma cells. The aim of current developments is to create plasma screens with improved discharge efficiency and higher efficiency. It has been recognized that a large number of electrons must be made available in a region between the discharge electrodes in which a high electric field strength prevails. According to the invention, means (20, 21, 23, 27, 32) are located in the plasma area (16) between the discharge electrodes (6,7) for locally narrowing the plasma area (16) and / or for extending the area between the discharge electrodes (6, 7). discharge path compared to a plasma screen without these means. As a result, high mean electron energies are simultaneously found in a region of high electron density, so that electrical energy is efficiently converted into excitation and thus into radiation energy.
