Abstract

The currency conversion system has two parts, a fixed ring (1) and a movable ring (2), one of rings is graduated in a logarithmic scale from 1 to 100 and the other has three currency reference marks on it EU for euro, DM for deutsche marks and FF for French franks. Manipulation of the movable ring around the fixed ring enables the direct reading of the three monetary equivalents.

Description

Objet du BrevetPurpose of the Patent

This patent relates to an analog system allowing, on watches, simple conversion of fixed rate currencies (such as EURO and various European currencies).

Analyse de l'ExistantAnalysis of the existing

To date, a number of systems have already been designed and produced for the currency conversion, using, among other things, circular logarithmic dials. Likewise, we thought of using watches to add additional dials to to have information (diving watch for example).

The originality of the patent consists in associating in a very simple way a graduated dial allowing an easy conversion of currencies on an object of everyday use easily accessible.

Principe du BrevetPrinciple of the Patent

On a circular watch, we add a first dial (Ring 1, see figure) fixed graduated in logarithmic scale from 1 to 100 and a second dial (Ring 2, see figure) mobile revolving around the previous one, on which the marks of the coins appear convert, the angular distance between the marks being on the logarithmic scale the exchange rate between the different currencies.

By moving the movable dial (Ring 2) and positioning the mark on the currency to be converted on the corresponding value (Ring 1), we then read at the level of the others markers (Ring 2) the corresponding value (Ring 1) in the currency associated with the mark.

De plus, l'échelle 1 à 100 permet de lire les centièmes (cents, centimes...) lorsque le nombre obtenu est inférieur à 1.It will be noted that a single manipulation makes it possible to have the equivalent of a coins in the various other coins identified on the mobile dial. Moreover, the scale 1 to 100 allows you to read hundredths (cents, cents ...) when the number obtained is less than 1.

Enfin dans le cas d'une variation des parités, on notera qu'il suffit de changer le cadran mobile et de le remplacer par un nouveau avec les repères des nouvelles parités entre devises Finally in the case of a variation of the parities, it will be noted that it suffices to change the mobile dial and replace it with a new one with the new parity marks between currencies

Extensions du PrincipeExtensions of the Principle

This principle can be extended analogously
  • to systems with logarithmic graduation other than from 1 to 100 (for example 1 to 10, 1 to 1000, 0.1 to 10 ....)
  • to equivalent systems obtained by permutation of the dials for example
  • movable dial for scale, fixed dial for markers,
  • scale dial and moving markers dial
  • overlapping dials
  • dial with magnifying glass to improve reading accuracy
  • to systems identical to that described above and adapting to other common circular objects (compass for example)

Explications TechniquesTechnical explanations

Echelle Logarithmique Circulaire:

  • Circular Logarithmic Scale:
  • Let m1 be the smallest graduated value
  • Let m2 be the largest graduated value
  • Let ta be the angle in degrees between m1 and m2
  • Si on veut graduer la valeur x, l'angle A en degrés entre la graduation et la graduation de x est donnée par A = log(x/m1)*ta/log(m2/m1) If we want to scale the value x, the angle A in degrees between the scale and the scale of x is given by A = log (x / m1) * ta / log (m2 / m1)

Où log (u) designe le logarithme népérien du nombre uWhere log (u) denotes the natural logarithm of the number u

On the attached example, we have
    • defined a first sundial (Ring 1) with a log scale from 1 to 100
    • spotted on a second dial (Ring 2) 3 coins:
    • The Euro (EU symbol)
    • The Deutsche Mark (symbol DM)
    • French Franc (symbol FF)
(the conversion values used are in the case of this example 1 EU = 6.5 FF and 1 DM = 3.35 FF)

Le deuxième cadran étant mobile autour du premier, on a positionné le symbole EU en face de la valeur 2.5, afin de savoir les valeurs en FF et DM de 2.5 EuroThe second dial being movable around the first, we positioned the EU symbol in front of the value 2.5, in order to know the values in FF and DM of 2.5 Euro

We read at the level of the FF mark a value slightly greater than 16 and at the level of the mark DM a value between 4.8 and 4.9.

This means that by this system, we can say that 2.5 Euro is worth a little more 16 Francs (exact value 16.25) or around 4.85 Deutsche Mark (exact value 4.84)
