  1. A chair, with a synchronising mechanism, having
       a frame (3),
       a seat (7) which is pivotably mounted on the frame (3) about a real or imaginary horizontal seat pivot axis (5) and which can pivot downwards from its normal position,
       a backrest support (11) carrying a backrest (13), which support is pivotably mounted on the frame (3) about a real or imaginary horizontal backrest pivot axis (9) and can pivot rearwards from its normal position,
       and a link (15) which at both ends is connected by means of articulations (15a,15b) to the seat (7) and to the backrest support (11) respectively and couples their pivoting movements with one another,
       wherein the ratio between the alterations in the pivot angles (α, β) of the seat (7) and the backrest support (11), i.e. the synchronising curve, is determined by the distances of the articulations (15a,15b) from the seat pivot axis (5) and the backrest pivot axis (9),
    characterised in that the articulations (15a,15b) of the link (15) are guided displaceably in slots (17,19) of the seat (7) and of the backrest support (11), and in that the slots (17,19) extend substantially horizontally in the normal position of the seat (7) and the backrest support (11), and in that the link (15) can be adjusted and located stepwise or continuously along the slots (17,19) by an adjusting mechanism (21).
  2. A chair according to Claim 1, characterised in that the adjusting mechanism hasp a screw spindle (21).
  3. A chair according to Claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the adjustment extent of the link (15) relative to the seat (7) and to the backrest support (11) is chosen so that the synchronising ratio, i.e. the ratio of an alteration in inclination of the seat (7) relative to the alteration in inclination of the backrest support (11) coupled therewith at the end of the adjustment range is lower than 0.5 to 1, in particular about 0.4:1 or lower, and at the other end of the adjustment range is more than 0.5:1, in particular about 0.7:1 or more.
